Annihilation Conquest

I'm making a Christmas break. I'm taking the week between Christmas and New Year's off from work.

I've uh...I've already used a very similiar excuse once. I don't think my bosses are going to buy my girlfriend being pregnant after that.

Haha, nice. I'll just count us as even after you got to go to sleep yesterday or Friday or whenever while I was still at work until 4 ****ing a.m. :oldrazz:

I hope it magically snows in Florida, and you're trapped inside your apartment for your entire break. With no electricity. :o

I didn't read the book. I know nothing of what The Golden Compass is supposed to be. I only know about what I saw. And what I saw included talking animal demons, a warrior-king polar bear and Sam Elliott.
Not much was changed; characters, events, motivations, cosmology are all the same. The problem is that [blackout]the entire last fifty pages or so of the book, which actually explains the relevance of the prior two hours, has been cut entirely.[/blackout] Oh, I know it's been filmed and will be in the sequel if there is one, but it makes about twelve billion degrees more sense here. 'Cause nope, we wouldn't want controversy in a story that will eventually climax with SERIOUS FRAKING SPOILER WARNING
the murder of God,
now, would we? I didn't even like the books that much -- well, I didn't like the first book less than I didn't like the other two -- but it was still such a Hollywood thing to pull.

Imagine Morrison's X-Men ending with the death of Jean. Yes, that is an end, but it's not The End.

Anyone who's interested in learning more about the series can get that info on the internet. Like I just did. :)

Like I said, I went into it knowing nothing about the books. I saw it for what it was: a movie. And I liked it.

Oh, I'm sure it's a better movie if you've never read the book, like nearly every single other movie in existence ever that's directly sourced from a book or comic. And there were cute animals.

Annihilation: Conquest #2
See, the book immediately begins to pick up when the Star-Lord crew comes along.

Things move both quickly and slowly in this issue. Quasar and Moondragon -- who seems way smaller now than she was in the mini -- basically spend the whole issue talking about with the High Evolutionary, but they talk about reasonably significant stuff so it's tolerable. Ronan officially joins coalitions with the Annihilation Wave, which is so totally not going to end up badly at all. And Star-Lord's team, who I am having the hardest time calling by any name but the Zoo Crew, comes up with a plan that actually doesn't suck. Ultron shows up in a cape and busts sht up, and while he's cool at the moment I would like to see him do some bigger, badderasser things than merely ripping out a furry lesbian's heart for shts and giggles.

Up next: Adam Warlock does...something!

Up next: Adam Warlock does...something!

I hope so. It doesn't even have to be Adam that does something. I mean, obviously the heroes are going to win. I just don't want to see them get their asses kicked throughout the entire mini and then pull a lever at the last minute to wipe out the Ultron and the Phalanx, you know?

Well, it looks like Phyla, Adam, and the High Evolutionary are going to have to fight their way out of Ultron's grasp next issue, at least.
Wait corp lives in miami?
Gainesville. I'll be in Miami for the holidays, though.

I can see the High Evolutionary making some type of deal with Ultron.

**** Miami, it's too goddamn hot there. Hell, it's like 80 degrees outside over by Clearwater so it's gonna be a lot hotter over there. Hate florida weather.

I'm assuming you live in Florida. That sort of hatred for Florida weather can only be bred by living in it.

I've been forced to visit Florida a few times, and I've hated the weather every time.

It's very hate-worthy. Our air conditioners alone are probably 1 or 2% to blame for global warming.

Even fall and spring aren't enjoyable. The temperature might be in the 70's, but the humidity is ridiculous.

The humidity drops when it's cooler. There have been some surprisingly pleasant days with a temperature in the 60s and cool, crisp air some winters. Sometimes it gets colder than that for more than a day at a time in Gainesville, which is nice. This winter has sucked balls, though. The high for today is ****ing 81 degrees.

We go from having highs in the 20's last week to highs in the 50's this week.

Hmm, apparently it's hotter all over the country, then. Weather.com's 10-day forecast says it'll be back down to highs in the 60s by next Tuesday for me, but that's notoriously unreliable past the first three or four days, I've noticed.

You know what else is unreliable? People's heads being consistent when they're being drawn by Raney. :o
