The High Evolutionary's whole interest in pushing the bounds of genetic manipulation is pretty much a direct result of his initial interest in Sinister's work in that same field as Nathaniel Essex. Based on that Wikipedia article, Phaeder seems to have just given the High Evolutionary a shortcut to figuring out how to manipulate genes.

True. In many ways HE is like a demigod, which makes it keen that technically I think he could be considered one of Thor's adversary's.

He's had dealings with Thor before. There was that time he created Nobilus from Thor's DNA, and then that other time when Thor was with the Godpack. I don't know much about the latter because I haven't been able to get past its suckiness and read those arcs.
