Annoying People in the Movie Theater

During DOFP there was some guy who would would start laughing very loudly every time Peter Dinklage's character would appear on screen. I guess he thought that Trask being played by a dwarf was supposed to be funny? It was pretty disrespectful.

Exact same for me. A couple of what appeared to be lax bros were behind me, and they kept talking about how the best scene of the movie was when Mystique killed him. Loudly. Because who cares, they're bros.

I was too old to watch Blues Clues, and therefore, admit to nothing. But I thought Blue was the cutest little cartoon doggy ever!

Yes she definitely was! I'm a big fan of steve burns too. I think the show sucked once he left but I outgrew it by then.

When I went to see CA:TWS for the 2nd time, some kid in front of me kept asking his dad questions loudly, like "Is that the bad guy?" "Who's the bad guy?" "Did the bad guy cut off his arm?," etc. It was so annoying:argh:

That's when you get next to him, and whisper in his ear, "you're the bad guy...now shut the **** up".

I rarely go to movie theaters now cause of stuff like this,I was hesitant in going to see X-Men DOP cause I just knew there'd be annoying people,I went to see it on opening day in the afternoon and of course I was right!

This couple with a kid each kept getting out of their seats and doing the"excuse me"crap"and pushed by legs before I even got fully ready, then they let the kid wander around all over the theater making noices and playing.

What I hate most are people making loud lame jokes and falling asleep snoring,I just usually wait for the dvd or Netflix now and enjoy peacefully at home!

I guss I am lucky I cant really rember ever having annoying people in the movie theater. When ever I have went people having there phones off and they are not talking ect. Probly the worst thing I can think of was like a few weeks ago when I went to see asm2 for a second time and before the movie started a woman was on the phone and talking loud but win the lights went off and the trailers where starting she got off. By the way want is the most amont of times that you guys have been to the movies in a months time before? I saw asm3 times and xmen 2 times and Godzilla and going to see a million ways to die in the west tomorrow so that manys in the last month 7 times that is the most for be by far I think has I normaly go to the movie probly like 6-8 times a year.

How would people rate each of these events on a scale of annoyance?

Someone chewing loudly on popcorn or some other snack
Someone playing with iPhone; bright screen, but not much noise
Couple making-out next to you
Friends talking loudly and laughing
Someone kicking or hitting your seat occasionally
Baby crying

For me, it'd be baby crying -10/10, friends talking loudly or laughing inappropriately-9/10, someone kicking my seat-8.5/10, chewing loudly on popcorn -7/10, couple making out next to me -6.5/10, someone playing with bright iPhone screen - 5/10

Baby crying is King. :o

Loud kids, ringing cellphones, giggling teenagers are bad (that's why I prefer to watch the last full show or maybe when a film is near the end of its theatre run)...but the worst experience I had was when a guy next to me removed his shoes and let his stinking feet destroy the air around me...there was also the time when a couple started making out LOUDLY a few seats away from me. Terrible.

The worst thing that could happen to you in a movie theater is to have a group of teenage girls, all texting each other throughout the movie, sit right behind you.

This very thing happened to me last week during X-Men. The theater was half filled and these teenage girls had to sit in the row directly in front of us out of all the other empty rows. We moved down to the very last seat but throughtout the movie they were texting talking and taking selfies. I didn't even no you can do that in the movies.

If it's just a bunch of teenage girls, just turn around and call them all ****s, and they'll shut up.

I have this unlimited pass, so I can go to the movies whenever I want (at least twice a month, minimum), and when I do, I always isolate myself, and I'm kind of really intense about the whole thing, having people sitting in my row or close to me tends to really annoy me, so do people who talk during the trailers & keep talking whereas the movie begins and I'm a real purist about the whole thing.

I tend to try to go to some showtimes during which I know there won't be many people, although I usually go D-day first showtime of the day for the big movies I've been waiting for for a while.

Thing is, it's a problem with the general audience, for the movie geeks, it's really annoying, but to a big majority of the GA, they just come to be entertained and just don't understand that some of us like to watch a movie, not miss a beat, not miss a single frame and enjoy the movie in total silence, truly absorb it.

One of the main things I hate is people with pop corn or food or whatever, hearing the hand go through the pop corn, or people eating (pretty sensitive hearing) on the other side of the row. Or like some of you said, people just talking & commenting on the movie, and it's the kind of thing where I (and probably many others) don't open my mouth because I don't want the experience to be ruined and don't want any trouble.

I remember one memorable thing during Life Of Pi (superb movie), an old guy just speaking at slightly more than normal volume after 20 min of the movie (so the plot was slowly coming into focus, with the most interesting part coming up) and saying out loud
"What is this s***?"

Wow. Overall, I hate people when I go to the movies, I really do, it's something really special & I hate that many others don't understand that & just see it as something trivial & banal.

I like to talk during the trailers but once the movie starts then I usually quiet down.

I get the feeling that if you were to ask this question in the relationship thread you'd get a ton of people listing the couple making out near the top of the list.

Your list is almost identical to my own - just swap the popcorn one with the phone one.

Quit shaking the popcorn bag to get those extra kernels out. Just stop it.

And I know I'm going to hell for this, but the last few times I've been to the movies I ended up sitting next to a family that has a child that is, basically special needs, from a mental standpoint and they end up always just making random noise or screaming during the flick. I know, I know. :o

There was this girl who kept crying at Peter and Gwen moments in ASM2.

My wife does this all the time. Not only do I get a feeling of embarrassment because I don't want to be somehow involved in annoying people but I always shoot her a look and shake my head.

The actual eating of snacks like popcorn doesn't bother me, so long as the person isn't a mouth breathing idiot with no manners who chews with their mouth open.

The worst thing for me is constant cell phone use and talking. My wife, a few of my sisters and I went to see I Am Legend on Imax(mainly for TDK prologue). Behind us was this young couple and when the movie started the ***** wouldn't shut up. We left got refunds and saw a different showing later in the week. Basically got to see the prologue twice only paying once. :woot:

She was constantly asking her bf question after question. In the beginning of the film, when Will Smith is in the car chasing after the deer she asks her bf "what is he doing". Umm...he's ****ing hunting the deer for food. How can you not get that!!? It was like that for the first 10-15 minutes and we all said F it and got up to leave.

On another note. As far as I'm concerned, trailers are part of the movie experience, the lights dim down for them for christs sake. I expect people to shut their fat mouths during trailers as well.

:lmao:

I hate talking as well but I usually give a slight pass during movie trailers with talking and phones. I expect them all to wrap it up by the time the movie starts that's for sure. But that's just me. I myself do wrap up the phone when trailers start (I also don't touch my popcorn or drink until the actual movie starts, I have a complete routine I go through when going to the theater :funny:) but if I'm with friends I usually play a small game of "Guess the movie trailer by the rating" :hehe:

For my own recent experience, last week I went to go see Godzilla and some guy and his girl came in towards the middle of the movie or something (they probably snuck in from the end of another showing) and the guy wouldn't stop bumping into the back of my seat!

The theater was damn near empty and they sat behind me and I had to restrain myself because he kept bumping into me. I was in the XD theater as well which has really nice seats and much more room which made it even more WTF. I remember only looking back once but I'm glad I was able to keep my cool, otherwise :BA would have made an appearance.

That pisses me off to no end. When a theater is somewhat empty and some people decide to sit right behind me. One time when I was catching a movie with my friend some guy sits right next to him. There were numerous seats available and this guy plops down as if he knew my friend. He didn't have the courtesy to keep an empty seat in between them. I'll never forget the look of horror on my friend's face.

I'm sure we've all been in that position and gave a look like

Awesome Gif response! :woot:

Whenever that situation happens to me, I lean my body on the opposite armrest. Make it obvious to that person that they kind of broke my personal space when it wasn't necessary.

Did you or your friend say anything to this guy? That's such an absurd thing for someone to do that I'd have to call them out on it.

Hahaha! Not only was I laughing before the movie because of the look on my friend's face when he turned to me, but I was laughing even more when my friend pussed out and didn't say anything. He just took it...:funny:

I love going to fanboy movies like X-Men, Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, Batman, etc... for midnight / 10pm showings, or opening weekend, and being among the fanbase.

Especially on something like X-Men, which I'm a HUGE fan of, and being among fellow X-Men fans, and cheering and getting excited for the first showing of a movie. It's a great experience, in my opinion. And Days Of Future Past was a pretty good experience. I tried to keep it toned down, but one of my friends who was sitting next to me said there were a bunch of times where I was jumping and fist pumping in my seat.

The overall crowd for DOFP surprisingly wasn't as hyped up as some past X-Men showings I've been at. There weren't any massive cheerings going on, whereas with X2, I still remember people getting all excited throughout that movie, particularly Wolverine unloading on the soldiers in the mansion. X3 got quite a few cheers when I went, and even Origins got a huge cheer from the crowd during the Xavier reveal.

But I do agree, idiots in a movie theatre can ruin the experience. There've been plenty of movies I've seen in a theatre that I had a horrible experience, thought I hated the movie, until I watched it later without idiots surrounding me.

Some of the idiots I encountered at DOFP (spoiler warning for those that haven't seen it):

-People constantly laughing at the first Trask / Dinklage reveal. Apparently, some people are still too immature to take a midget (or is it dwarf for Dinklage?) seriously without acting like a child.:doh::doh:

-People cheering when Storm was killed. I get that Halle as Storm hasn't been the most well received casting choice of all time, but really guys???

-The aforementioned laughing at the first shots of Nixon.

-The last couple times I saw it, I was surrounded by idiots who couldn't shut up through the movie.
