Anubis' "How would you do it?" Thread.

Wow, hardcore Q, hardcore. This would be my idea:

SUICIDE SQUAD: DIRTY DEEDS DONE DIRT CHEAP

The recent Squad-related ideas finally enticed me to come up with my own Squad as well. As most, if not all of you know, I'm a gigantic fan of the Ostrander Suicide Squad run. I haven't particularly agreed with some of the things that have done with the characters since (see: Nightshade and the Shadowpact), and with others I have, after a long time of hating it (see: Rick Flag's return). So what I present here is the first roster of what I would write for a new Suicide Squad series. People would die of course, get captured and all kinds of crazy stuff.

suicidesquadwj6.jpg

Col. Rick Flag, JR.
I was against this resurrection originally, but I've come to appreciate it. Rick Flag is still the perfect guy to lead the Squad, as he is, ultimately a genuine good guy. He's also a certified badass, being capable of keeping up with guys like the Bronze Tiger and Batman. Besides that, Rick Flag's entire existence as a character these days can pretty much only revolve around the Squad, as he really has nowhere else to go. That, and it'd be an interesting tale of how he survived Suicide Squad #26 and how his four years in a Quraci prison were.

Ben "Bronze Tiger" Turner
Good guy. Badass. Top three martial artist. He works excellently as a second-in-command, and is capable of keeping the Squad in check, simply because no one wants to mess with the Bronze Tiger. Beyond that, he is also a very interesting character, with a rich psychological angle to him concerning his brainwashing at the hands of the League of Assassins and just what it means to wear that tiger mask and be the Bronze Tiger.

Evan "Mirror Master" McCulloch
I liked this addition to the Squad a lot, and he, as shown by Geoff Johns, is one hell of an interesting character if played right. He has an amazing capacity to betray, has problems with authority and drug abuse, and lastly, has useful and powerful abilities. If one needs to liken him to an old Squad member, I'd say Captain Boomerang, also a Flash rogue. These guys are just rife with character possibilities, and I could really see Mirror Master being a fan fave. The guy you love to hate.

Cameron "Icicle" Mahkent
Meet the new Deadshot. He's ruthless but has got a good guy's heart somewhere deep down. Somewhere. He's an old B-lister that would really get the chance to be fleshed out in something like the Suicide Squad, and I think him being added worked great. Somewhere, he's one of those characters you can sympathise with, and that should make him a favourite. His lover, Artemis Crock (aka Tigress) would be featured here and there, but not as an actual member of the team.

Jason "Red Hood" Todd
I know, I know, why the **** is Jason Todd on the team? He needs a place to stay, and what better place than the Suicide Squad? Sure, he isn't going to die, but his inclusion on the Squad grants quite a few story possibilities. I'd have him be on the Squad at the behest of Batman, who has asked Amanda Waller, although he despises her methods, to keep an eye on him. He figures this is the best route for the guy for now.

Count Werner Vertigo
I love this guy. He was easily one of my favourite characters from the original Suicide Squad, and like the others, he has such an interesting psychological side to him. His manic-depressiveness, and his former death wish make him a great addition to this team. He'd have to leave Checkmate, but since I haven't actually seen him do anything useful with that outfit, I doubt anyone would mourn that loss. He's got power, arrogance and just a dash of lunacy. Awesome.

Jewelee
You'd almost wonder what happened to the females on this team. Jewelee is a good choice for this team because of the recent loss of her husband to Squad activities, and her needing the cash to raise her baby. Why would she work with the outfit that caused the death of her husband you ask? The perfect chance for revenge later down the line. Punch and Jewelee didn't get fleshed out much during the original Squad run, so at least she can get her chance now.

Bette Sans "Plastique" Souci
An old Squadder that was recently re-introduced into the Squad. Her interaction with guys like Flag and Turner, who probably won't buy the redemption-act should be interesting, while she is like a veteran to the newbies that don't know how the Squad works. Her character isn't particularly interesting, but I'd use this to finally get Plastique and Captain Atom back together.

Marvel 1876... The Daring Devil

"SIT DOWN MATTHEW!" The Cardinal roared.

a seventeen year old teenager flopped down in a chair in a classroom. he had a few scars from old fights, and he had some fresh cuts from a recent fight, which was why he was here. His clothes were expensive, yet they were ripped and bloody. "I didn't start it," the boy said with his blank empty eyes directed forward.

"I know that," the Cardinal said in a tired voice. "Joseph has a record of starting fights. But you, Matthew, have a record of FINISHING them."

"I'm not allowed to protect myself?" Matthew asked coldly.

"Matthew, you are more educated than some monarchs. The church has provided you with the best education one can imagine because it has seen potential in you." The Cardinal paused. "When you saved my life, you lost your sight. I knew the lord had put you in my life for a reason. I took an interest in you because of the daring way you move. Many who you have finished a fight with claim you move as if you can see."

"I don't need to see," Matthew said, but quickly silenced himself.

"No, it would appear you didn't," the cardinal agreed. "You have become proficient enough a fighter to take down men twice your size..." He shook his head. "At one point, I hoped you would become a priest."

Matthew let out a bark of laughter.

"However, I believe there is a better idea for you," The Cardinal moved across the room, picking up an old book. "Have you ever heard of Rafael of Galilee?" he asked. He set the old book in front of Matthew.

"No," Matthew responded. It sounded like a biblical name, but the priests and nuns who had raised him made sure he knew everyone in the bible.

"You shouldn't," he replied. "He was born two months after our lord, Jesus Christ. They grew up together. Our records show that Rafael's father would beat him regularly and for little to no reason. Jesus would heal his friends wounds as best he could, but there are wounds that even the son of God cannot heal. While Rafael remained close friends with Christ, he he could never get rid of the violence and darkness within himself. He was intentionally left out of the gospels on the decision of the the eleven remaining apostles and himself. It was decided that while angels must guide us, and protect us. There are times... chaotic times such as the ones we are in right now, that our protection is best left in the hands of a Devil."

Matthew gave the cardinal a confused expression. he finally opened the old book and on the first page, as he ran his hands across, he felt the raised edges of old inks. he read the name "The Suicide Devil"

"And Each time it becomes necessary for the church to be guarded by a Devil, god provides us with one... He blessed you at the same time he stripped you of sight. I have seen the way you cock your head, listening intently. I have seen you sniff as you enter rooms. You senses give you more information than anyone else. Matthew, I am choosing you for our newest Devil."

"What would you call me?" asked Matthew as he ran his fingers along the book, learning of how the "Devils" were granted amnesty in the name of God for all their sins and crimes. "And why are you choosing me now?"

"Why now?" answered the Cardinal. "Because of Japan. in the middle sixteenth century a jesuit, the first jesuit, in fact, went to Japan. There he spred the faith. However, after converting thousands, the Japanese rulers issued a ban on the faith in fear of us, and slaughtered those who would not convert back. With the ports of Japan now open again, and Catholics, and other Christians going there and converting, it is prudent to remember the errors of the past. You would be there..."

"To protect the Christians?" asked Matthew.

"From the Japanese and themselves," The cardinal amended.

"Themselves?" questioned Matthew.

"Aye, We don't want our people dead, nor do we want to them to give the Japanese a reason to want them dead."

Matthew leaned back. "And my name?"

"Didn't I already tell you?" asked the Cardinal. "You are a Daring Devil."

Wow, hardcore Q, hardcore.

I'm also thinking of adding Murmur to the roster as the team's biological warfare expert. There'd be a story where the team, quite literally, goes to hell, and I suppose we could have Murmur get torn to shreds by demons. I'm also thinking of having a telecommunications expert who would be cannon fodder, but I can't think of any characters besides The Calculator, who I like too much to kill, who have skills in that area. In any event, the character's death wouldn't be sompletely pointless, as he or she would be killed when his or her services are most needed: Trapped behind enemy lines after their cover's been blown.

This would be my idea:

Pretty cool. Though, I'm a big fan of Bette. I don't know why, but I actually really see her as potentially one of the more responsible and moral members of the group. Sure, she's a terrorist, but she's not malevolant. Simply an "ends justify the means" type of person.

Marvel 1876... Strike of the Thunder Bolt

"Now," called a bored english man from the head of a long room. the ship swayed and rocked as the ship pitched and rolled. "Let us make sure everyone is here and supposed to be here before we begin."

"Sergei Kravinoff and Aleksei Sytsevich?" two men stood. On was dressed in tan furs, with bare arms. he had a regal posture. the second was enormous. he was cloaked in gray rags.

"You vill call me 'Hunter', if you must speak to me. You're dog-like british tongue will not butcher my tongue. And this verm," he gave the second man a shove. "You may call Rhinocerous."

"Fine," replied the the british man in a board tone. "O'Toombs and McShultz?"

"Oye!" called an aging bald man. "Ireland's smartest are sitting overe here." the older man was in green, while his partner, McShultz, in orange and brown, sat at a table in the back fiddling with their contraptions.

"Felicia Hardy," called the englishman.

"Yes?" purred a woman in black. her clothing was far more revealing than should be.

"Emil Blonski?" asked the englishman

"Here," called a plolish man.

"Elektra Natchios?"

after a list of twenty other men and women, he closed the ledger he was working in. "All of you here are here because you wish to test your skills. and when you do, or do not, you will be rated by my employer. whomever scores the highest will be employed for a truly rewarding mission... rewarding in how you fight, and rewarding in how you are paid."

The man stood and his white cloak swirled around him. "The plan is thus. You will be disembarked in Yokohama where you will find and engage the best opponants you can find, whether that includes those present here or not is up to you. after one year we will return for you. from those still alive we will chose the one which we will use. You will strike Japan like a bolt of thunder... and that is how you shall prove yourselves.

A guy like Murmur would work great on the Suicide Squad. Nice idea. As for communications, I can only come up with Calculator for now, as well.

Pretty cool. Though, I'm a big fan of Bette. I don't know why, but I actually really see her as potentially one of the more responsible and moral members of the group. Sure, she's a terrorist, but she's not malevolant. Simply an "ends justify the means" type of person.
Yeah, she's a bit of a walk-the-line kind of character, something that can benefit the good guys on the team, but the bad guys too.

Now that we're in a Suicide Squad mood, I thought we could take a crack at another period peice.

Suicide Squad: Cold War

The deal: This is the 50s/60s Squad, who were doing what any good black ops team would be doing during the cold war: Killing some flithy reds. The rsoter is:

Rick Flag Sr.

Role: Field leader

His deal: The veteran of the group and founder of the Squad. By this point, his role is more comperable to that of Amanda Waller: The brains behind the operation, but not actually a full time feild operative. Still, he does go on mission when the Squad is understaffed, which they usually are.

Neptune Perkins

Neptune_perkins.jpg

Role: Second in command, feild leader.

His deal: Post WWII, he started working for the government and ended up working black ops for the feds. One of the few people crazy enough to volunteer for Task Force X. Flag took him on because he needs someone to keep an eye on the Squad when he's not around. I mainly want him on the team to show what he did between the war and his becoming a Senator.

Lawrence "Sportsmaster" Crock

Nomsportsmaster.jpg

Role: Weapons expert.

His deal: After getting pinched by the cops when someone recognized him, Crock was drafted into the Squad. Here, he'd be portrayed as he was in The Golden Age: A washed up athlete who turned to crime out desperation, found that he was surprisingly good at it, and eventually got in too deep to pull himself out. He wouldn't be defined solely by the sports angle. I'd portray him as a sort of savant when it comes to making and using weapons, and only used what he had at hand, sports equipment, at the begining of his criminal career. He himself has said that he's "mastered the ancient art of taking random **** and killing you with it in very inventive ways." In many ways, he's the Bullseye of close quarters combat. While he caries standard isse firearms, he also weild a baseball bat from time to time, and will often refrain from using his guns for the sake of "the personal touch."

Axel "Ubermench" Abendroth

ubermensch.gif

Role: "Tank"

His deal: After the war, he was offered employment by the United States in exchange for a stay of exicution for the various war crimes he had commited. While he initially refused, his former teammate, Der Grösshorn Eule, convinced him to take the offer. Arrogant, horribly racist, prone to violent outbursts, and reluctant to follow orders from what he sees as "weak Americans," he still gets the job done, and takes great pleasure in killing "godless communist scum." He is, however, not entirely without redeeming qualities. He is quite brave, refuses to back down from a challenge, and has a strong sense of honor. In that regard, he has earned the respect of his teammates. Though, they still can't stand him.

Berthold "Horned Owl" Werden

HornedOwlElph.gif

Role: Stealth/assassination

His deal: Dissilusioned after the death of his son and the fall of the Reich, Berthold struck a deal with the United States and convinced his former teammate, Ubermench, to do the same. Unlike Ubermench, he lost his loyalty to the party abd to the reich. While still rather racist and elitist, he now sees Hitler as a genocidal madman who led their country to ruin and in the end hid in a bunker and shot himself like a coward. He's also come to regret some of his actions in the war.

Hemlata "Hypnota" Nagappa

0096.jpg

Role: Espionoge

Her deal: An Indian stage magician and con artist who had a pechant for dressing in clothes that made her look like a man, Hypnota was accidentally shot in the head shortly after a preformance one night. She went into a coma, and when she awoke she found that her brain had healed differently. She now had the ability to control others. After spending a few years in jail for theft, she joined the squad. Hypnota is, by far, the most self serving member of the squad, trying to get things to be on her terms. However, her powers are kept in check by a sort of mental conditioning she went through that causes her great pain when she tries to use her powers on a teammate. She is a closet lesbian, which she does her best to keep to herself, especially around the homophobic Horned Owl and Ubermench. Her powers would be portrayed similarly to Jesse Custer's "Word" than hypnotic rays.

Charles "Psycho Pirate" Halstead

Psychopirate.png

Role: Tactitian/occultist

His deal: Jailed in the 1940s after his crime ring was broken up, he spent the next several years planning an escape that never came to fruition and satisfying his growing interest in the paranormal. After joining the Squad, he used is limited freedom to continue to persue his ends while serving as the team's tactical mastermind. Well versed in human psychology, he can and does easily manipulate his fellow teammates.

Richard "Shade" Swift

Starman6.jpg

Role: Transportation, "Tank"

His deal: Allowed himself to be arrested and joined the squad solely on a whim. While he usually follows orders, this is really just him playing a part, as any threats of death that the government gives him are quite meaningless due to his immortality. Is known to dissapear for large chunks of time, only to reapear when the team needs him most.

Well, I wanted to use a lesser known Golden Age female villain. The only ones I could think of were Wonder Woman villains, and pretty much all of them were written to subtextually be lesbians. So, I decided to do something with that.

That is true, about the subtext lesbianism. And it's not like I mind, normally. It just feels that it's almost gimmicky with DC, as the homosexual population booms, and is primarily lesbian, lately. I'd like to see it mixed up with some gay guys.

True. Really, it was sort of an afterthought. I suppose I could make Ubermench a closet gay. Now that would be interesting.

And killing communists to make himself feel better. There's alot of that.

Hell, killing other gay men, then going home and vomiting and crying over it.

Question and I are of a fairly akward caliber.

And I'm just plain unstable.

You REALLY want to make it messed up?

Black gay communists. Pull out all the stops.

I think I need to revise the Cold ar Squad. I like most of the team except Hypnota and Shade. I just added them because I couldn't think of that many golden age villains.

You don't like the Shade? He's the best villain you got on that list. Read Robinson's Starman if you don't believe me.

I love The Shade. I'm just not sure that I love him on the Suicide Squad.

FRAY, VOLUME 2: CITY OF ANGELS

Volume 2 takes place one year after the defeat of Harth Fray, so after the events that occured in the mini-series Fray. Now, Melaka "Mel" Fray, the first vampire slayer in 200 years is starting to get restless and she wants to learn of her slayer heritage. She's spent the last year combining her life as a criminal and slayer, much to the dismay of her older sister, Erin Fray. Although the two have reconciled over the fate of their brother, the two are still at odds.

Figuring that she can't go to England and find the answers to her questions there, Mel is able to convince Erin to look up information and use her police connections. Erin digs up info about the one person who might still be alive and who knew the previous vampire slayer: Angel, who still resides in the city of Los Angeles.

frayangelyt3.jpg

The city of Los Angeles is largely demon free, thanks to the efforts of Angel and his companion Illyria. Angel has spent 200 years ridding his city of evil, and the only obstacle left is Wolfram & Hart, who have come to toy with Angel of the last few years. Every week or so, they send a new demon out into the city, and lest it massacre the populace, Angel and Illyria are forced to stay in Los Angeles and take out the demon. Besides the demon that it spawns, the building of Wolfram & Hart is eerily silent and it has no occupants, not at day or at night.

Melaka arrives in Los Angeles and is surprised to find that there are absolutely no lurks (the future name for vampires) about and that the people of Los Angeles are a genuinely happy folk that do not have to deal with the pain that the rest of the world has to bare. It is, quite simply, utopia. Strangely though, the population of the city is well controlled and does not exceed what the city is capable of holding. Something that Mel later learns is because of Wolfram & Hart's still existing influence on the outside world.

It takes only a small matter of time before Melaka is capable of finding Angel, and from that point on, the **** really starts to hit the fan. Suddenly, demons pop up all over town, and while trying to get the knowledge she wants from Angel, they have to fight off all of the demons. Angel is hesitant to tell Melaka anything, not trusting her, especially as she seems to be the cause of the recent demonic outbreak.

Eventually, Angel comes to trust Melaka through a series of events in which she proves her worth as a slayer and even saves his life. They join forces to deal with Wolfram & Hart once for all, breaking into the building and travelling to the White Room. While they work together, Angel tells Melaka bits and pieces of the life of the previous slayer (Buffy) and about her heritage. In return, Mel notifies Angel of the fact that, for all his grandstanding and his "champion-of-the-world" speeches, he hasn't actually left Los Angeles in close to 200 years.

After they face their final challenge in the White Room, a manifestation of the Senior partners, Angel thanks Mel for her help and decides that he and Illyria will be going out into the world and doing what they were meant to be doing. Through the course of the adventure, Illyria grows to respect Melaka and points out that she should travel to Britain, where she should look up her former pet, Spike, who might be able to tell her more. When Mel is about to ask Angel about Spike, he does his heroic exit with Illyria, vanishing into the night, and Mel is left in the upper room of the Hyperion hotel. The volume closes on Mel looking at a picture, which would be revealed as being a picture of the Angel gang in the last panel.

Seeing Green

normally to rob a mini-mart, a person brings a gun or knife. This time the kid thought he would be different, go down in history as the first person to rob a gas station with a gamma-bomb. The bomb was home made with a low yeild. it would take out the block, but not much more.

at the time of the robbery there were Three customers and one clerk. the "Green-Bomber" as he called himself, walked in, sealed the doors, and announced his presence. everyone froze until a police officer pulled up outside. the Green-Bomber pushed the trigger. the clerk, a teen himself, leapt over the counter to cover the bomber with his body, hoping to spare the others.

hours later as the rubble is being dug through it is discovered that the four bystanders are miraculously alive. but as always with Gamma radiation, they are not unscathed.

Duncan Newman was a football star at the high school all three attended. he was not noted for his intelligence, in fact he was failing most of his classes. However when they dug him out he was smarter than any of his teachers, speaking with an english accent, bald, and olive green.

Delilah Connover was an overweight girl who always dreamed of being one of the beautiful people. the Gamma radiation transformed her into a beauty with every possible feature a man could want. the only revelation of the origins of this beauty was her hair... her neon-green hair.

Adam Powell was a skinny geek who was into heroes. He was never the type that stood out, until after the blast. he emerged a green-skinned adonis. He now stood at seven foot, eleven inches and was perfectly proportioned. he wasn't the deformed mass of muscles that other gamma-mutants turned into.

Ralph O'Dugan was the clerk who risked his life to save those around him. He has suffered no great change to his person as far as one can see other than the now glowing green eyes.

S.H.E.I.L.D. was on the scene instantly with their gamma-mutant experts, Dr. Leonard Sampson and Jennifer "She-Hulk" Walters. the four teens were taken in for testing. while it was discovered that Delilah was emmitting pheremones that other Gamma-Mutants were immune to, and Adonis was a class 90 (Delilah and Duncan being Class 50's) no other extraordinary abilities were being detected. as far as anyone could tell Ralph O'Dugan was left without powers.

Now that I think about it, considering he's immortal, what would be the point, right?

Exactly. Really, the only way he'd join the Squad would be if he volunteered, and he'd probably see it as beneath him.
