Anubis' "How would you do it?" Thread.

Thank you. and now that you know I'm talking about Victor Mancha, what do you think of my Hank Pym peice? I was trying to do him in a sympathetic light... which was difficulat at first... I generally don't like him.

The first impression I got on him was from the Ultimates, in which he wasn't having his head screwed with when he acted like an ass-hat. I know it's a completely seperate character, but you know what they say about firt impressions. I have to admit though 616 Hank makes for a much more pitiable character.

Wild Spirit

Totemistic magic is generally considered a weak branch due to the fact that even when done properly, the caster must still fight their own battle and is still in signifigant danger. There is a singular exception to this: the Wild Spirit. It is an amalgamation of the essence of every animal and plant to have ever called our world home. It rarely takes a host, but when it does... the results are nothing short of a bomb.

Into our generation was born a host for the Wild Spirit, Montgomery Danvers. He scrawny, intellectual, rich boy. on his seventeenth birthday, as his parents began to berate him for wanting to be a computer programmer (rather than a lawyer like his father), he felt threatened... the Wild Spirit took over. when he came too several hours later, his family was dead. Torn to shreads.

Now he has only once companion, Nihls, a Being who exists for the express purpose of teaching him to harness and control the Wild Spirit. Nihls can force a transformation, or turn one off. He takes the form of a 35 year old british man. He is mortal now.

Basically this kid is Hulk Level without such a dramatic change. his nails lengthen into claws, his teeth sharpen, and his eyes slit, but that is the only difference asside from how he carries himself.

Meh the visual doesn't do anything for me.

Hell has risen, making it's attacks on the world more prominent. God has sent blessings across the world.

Moses and the Plagues

Mark believe he is normal. he believes he has no special abilities, but when ten people show up on his door step saying God told them he was in charge, he has to question.

Dana is a 27 year old farmer from Ireland, but He finds he can transmute water into whatever liquid he wishes.

Kyle is a 16 year old athlete who can take on the characteristics of reptiles and amphibians, including monsterous strength

Fran and Jan, a pair of 32 year old twin nuns, both able to command insects

Mike and Michelle, a pair of 25 year old twins (respectively a banker and drug dealer). Mike could cast a lethal disease on animals, while Michelle could strike those around her with horrible boils.

Vera, a 64 year old nurse, was able to expell locust from her mouth to devour anything not animal.

James, a 29 year old USN sailor, was able to project fire and ice from his hands.

Naiomi, a 17 year old girl from South Africa, was able to deprive any area of light.

Johnny, an 8 year old boy from Australia, has the ability to kill men with his hands.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devil Man
There once was a demon named Peril. His job was to kill those of valor and courage, those we call "heroes". He was very good at his job. So good in fact that he screwed up the balance. And so Peril was reassigned to work with "The Other Side", with the assurance of Satan that if and when Hell won, he would be welcomed back with open arms.
Now he is stripped of his powers and forced to live as a mortal, earning back his powers one by one through good deeds. God was kind enough to make sure he had a job set up (911 operator) however nothing he does for that job counts as a good deed. It's a story of living life and finding those little good deeds that we can all do. figuring out the real difference between good and evil, and choosing a side.
Mortal Flesh
Rigel was an Angel of light. His greatest claim to fame was being the star of Bethlehem. lately his jobs were more routine; Guardian Angel. however, he made the wrong joke to the wrong being. He offended the Angel of Death, and displayed Pride unbecoming of an Angel. and thusly he was struck to earth. the only power stripped from him was his immortality. He was bound forever to the family he formerly served. However the people he was charged to protect are dead. Now he lives with their children. their 22 year old daughter who was in seminary to become a nun when her parents were killed. a crisis of faith caused her to give up the church, desperation made her take up stripping. Also, their son, a moody 16 year old... okay, so he's just a teenager.
Rigel is trying to change his ways and show that he deserves to be in heaven again, however his pride keeps making him screw up. He does manage to get a job in a fashion designer's office to help pay his part of the rent. He is still a guardian angel, with all the instincts that come with, however he is bound by his prison... his Mortal Flesh.
Paradox
The Devil believes he has the ability to goad God into doing things. Read the book of Job and you'll know what I mean. But what isn't mentioned is what happens at the end of the book Job. The Devil accuses God of cheating, as the Man was mortal and made by god and would have to prepare for the next world. So god gave him a comprimise. They would, together, make a being, and immortal being of great power. they would release it into the world and see what it became. and so the Paradox was created.
He walked the earth, though he was not man. He held powers of both angels and demons, yet he was neither. he lived, yet he did not die. Now, in this turbulent time, as the Devil sends his legions across the earth, the Paradox has settled down in chicago with a beautiful woman whom he has began to fall in love with. Who's call will he answer? Who will the Paradox side with?
Guest starring Jesus.
a group of teenagers died in Hell's first strike. becaue of this fact, God offers them a chance: return to earth as soldiers, or continue on to the great unknown. In fear they agree to be his soldiers.
Chorus: formerly a girl who prided herself on her voice is struck mute, and granted the ability to do the same to others. she can also understand any language spoke to her.
Vegan: he acted as a predator among his classmates, and so he is stripped of that ability; he can change into any Herbivore
Trumpet: a gossip was was quite sadistic with her words, is stripped of the ability to lie, granted the ability to know the truth behind lies, and a voice that can be heard from a mile away.
Diamond: She was actually a good person with no outsanding sins (she was goth, but that doesn't preclude goodness), she was granted a healing ability both for herself and for those she could lay her hands upon.
Arch: He was too consumed with himself to care for others, so he is charged with caring for his team. he can hear their thoughts in his head constantly. he is also strong and fast and bears the Sword of St. Joan.
Ok now this is pretty good I think this is a keeper Z!
The Godsends...
When we first detected them, we thought they were the worst recorded meteor shower in history. then they hit the atmosphere. 600 of them rained down all over the planet. They were people. more than half of them fell in the United states, with the rest scattered across the globe. They were checked every way possible: DNA, Finger prints, even dental records. they didn't exist. These strangers were just that: Strangers to everyone: including themselves. They had no memories. They all had a full working command of at least one language, though many of them have multiple languages. With one of the strangers, there was a metallic plate with strange symbols. after months of trying, it is finally deciphered into binary. it's words... "You will Require Champions"
Hmm...:word:
You had best be in a reading mood to night... or the Furbies will be having their way with you.
disregard... you are in a reading mood.
LOL!
Yeah I've had a busy month, just bought a new house and my wifey is a slave driver.
I wanna drive by a Home Depo and hire some Ese's.
Well congrats on the house, that's a huge event. Rejoice in the nagging and orders of your wife... they are usually accompanied with lots of love... and remember to hire the ones who speak english, less chance of getting caught.
Heh she's mexican herself so I got that covered.
And thank you, dude it's like every thing is going the way I want it right now, the house, the job, the family, I'm just trying to figure out when the bottoms gonna drop ya know? to many plus' maybe I'm just paranoid.
appreciate every moment, live with no regrets, and make a fine future for those you love, and the bottom can never drop out.
I recommend being wary, but not paranoid of oncoming problems. If you let them make you paranoid, you're bound to make them happen just to alleviate the worry.
Thanks for the kind words.
Now I gotta read these damned posts..Damn you Z and XOXO Miss G!!!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It's all part of my plan to keep the black man reading post after post of wonderous ideas and stories... that's right. you never suspected... I... AM... THE MAN!
The American strangers are all gathered in a facility that becomes known jokingly as "The Tank". They eventually take names from geographic locations. Then the more bizarre things begin to happen, before they can be released into the public, they begin display super-human abilities. Each with different powers. Eventually, Homeland security admits to itself that the only reason these "Strangers" as they are now called, remain in the Tank is that they don't yet realize HomeSec can't keep them there. and so they are allowed to leave and make their way on their own. the ones who hang back are the ones we focus on.
Beale Street: Flight, strength, and invulnerabilty. he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and an instinct to protect. He is the first to volunteer to help HomeSec with their new department to police and protect Strangers
Thames River: She can unleash any number of effects from her eyes, including the abilty to see in different ways. She is laid back and quite easy going. her closest confidant is Mississippi River. the two have declared themselves sisters.
Mississippi River: She has the ability to move through solid objects. She has a dark, and somewhat macabre nature (Think Wednesday Addams). She is feircely loyal to Thames River
Manhattan Island: Cursed with the ability to heal from any form of attack (He has been crushed by a cement block. when his body healed he re-attatched his own head), however not with a desensitization to pain. He is very introspective and quiet. Very perceptive.
Parthenon Temple: A girl granted hightend senses and reactions and a natural ability to fight. She is dark and brooding. She prays to Athena, as a goddess of war.
Grand Canyon: possesses super-speed. She is the most intelligent of the group as her speed grants her more study time and patience than the rest. The world moves slow to her, she sees no reason to speed things up faster than they need to be. She is very patient.
So why are they named after locations?
The continuing adventers in my "Perilous Prospect of Protecting a Preteen" world where a 13 year old daughter of Spider-Man is brought to the 616. now they face the Civil War
Parabellum
"They're passing it?" Mayday asked incredulously. She'd been at Stamford all day with a few dozen other heroes trying to help clean and search for survivors. She'd just gotten home to hear of the Super-Human Registration Act.
"There's no choice," Tony said, trying to console Peter and Mayday. Aunt May and MJ were a couple rooms over. "The law is being passed tonight. By tomorrow it's register or..." Tony trailed off.
Mayday growled. "why," she asked emptily.
"The act compels anyone with super-human abilities to register their identities with the U.S. government," Tony explained.
"But why!?" Begged Mayday. Peter stroked her daughter's back.
"People are afraid," Tony replied quietly. "They need someone to be afraid of, to blame. We got the short end of the stick."
"What's all this 'We' stuff?" Mayday asked coldly. "You're a baseline."
"You know they'd count me too," Tony remarked.
"But you want to join," Mayday replied. "I just want to help people during the day, and go home for as normal a life as possible. And I don't want to hear anymore people whine and decry the New Warriors."
"The New Warriors..." Tony started.
"UNCLE BEN WAS A NEW WARRIOR!" She yelled into his face.
Peter reached to put a restraining hand on her shoulder, but stopped.
"The Thing was never a New Warrior," Tony objected, confusedly.
"Not Uncle Ben Grimm," Mayday spat. "Uncle Ben Reilly... the Scarlet Spider."
Tony paused, but Mayday just turned to walk away.
~~~~~~~~

half an hour later...

"Oh my GOD!" called an anchor in her dressing room.

"Hi," Mayday, in full costume, responded. "I have to ask you a favor."

"Um..." The frightened anchor responded. she turned to look at the door.

"If you say no, I'll just try to get to another station," Mayday assured her.

"What do you want?" asked the anchorwoman.

"I just want a few minutes on the air to say something. completely voluntary, and totally non-compelled. I just wanted to approach you in secret because... well, I didn't want to scare a room full of people. Just... you know, one person."

"Um... just a minute," the anchorwoman responded. she pulled the small tissue's from her collar that protect her pantsuit from make-up. "I'm going to be right back." she charged from the room, only to stick her head back in a moment later. "By the way, I'm Cindy Sui" with that said, Cindy pulled her head back out and ran down the hall. Mayday sat in the small dressing room for five minutes before Cindy came back in with a larger, balding man.

"You want a couple minutes on the air?" asked director.

"Yes, I want to talk about a new law that is coming into effect tonight," Mayday explained

"Political commntary from a super-hero?" asked the anchorwoman.

"From a popular one," the director added. "I've been looking at approval ratings lately. She and her Young Avengers are pretty popular. and a political comment at this time... oh it's going to be great." the director practically danced out.

a few minutes later the news was starting and the anchorwoman was introducing their "special guest".

"Thank you Ms. Sui," Mayday took. she pulled her mask off finally. "And good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is May Gweneth Parker. As you probably know I'm the daughter of Peter Parker, the Spider-Man. I... I'm here to ask for your support. but to help you understand what is going on, I want to tell you a little story..."

she took a deep breath. "Many decades ago there was a society that was devestated after a war. their economy had completely failed as their money was next to worthless. Then, one man came on the scene, and he started to turn things around. he united his people against a common enemy. he was charasmatic and intelligent, and charming. He found the way to unite most of his nation was to turn them against a type of people within their own population. he made it appear to be their fault. That nation did become strong, it became powerful. industry and economics picked up once more... but they were taking more and more drastic measures against the perceived enemy. I'm no great shakes at science like my dad is, but I do know my history, and that history, the history that I see us working toward right now... is that of Germany. The charming man was Adolf Hitler... and I think you can guess the rest."

She looked right into the camera, and her eyes welled up with tears. "Something few people know about me is that I'm not from this reality. I was born in another that went down a path similar to this one. It lead to genocide. My father and mother were slaughtered because my father was genetically different. I was saved only because my godfather got me into a hidden safehouse in time. "

She took a deep breath. "And... one more thing. The New Warriors were not fools or stupid. The Night Thrasher was a highly trained martial artist, and he, Namorita, and Speedball were all highly experienced. They have had some highly powered people cycle through their roster, and had some highly powered people on their roster. Let's remember the man who actually caused the explosion... Nitro. A man who has taken the lives of heroes before, took the lives of five more. What is being done to track down the person who actually killed all those children? A single mutant has taken it upon himself to hunt him down. that's hit. SHIELD is more concerned with gearing up to enforce a law that comes into effect tonight, than tracking down the monster that scared you all so badly in the first place. Tony Stark is more interested in putting heroes in prison than in capturing Nitro, OR the gang that visiously beat my godfather, Johnny Storm, into a coma. He could have kiled them easily, but instead he allowed himself beat.

"See the road ahead of you," She told them with a solemn voice. "And decide if it is one you truly want to be on. Someone very close to my family was once a New Warrior, so I ask any former New Warriors to come out tonight with me, and stand in defiance of an unjust law at Times Square. Thank you for your time tonight, and thank you Ms. Sui."

"Not a problem," Replied the Anchorwoman in a mystified voice. Mayday stood and walked from the studio.

Hours later, in Times Square, a man in gold, with a red cape stood high above the city.

"Scary, isn't it," came a voice from the shadows.

"WHO!" jumped the young Hero on the ledge.

"I'm Spider-Girl," Mayday replied.

"It's Midnight," Prodigy, the man in gold and red, spoke timidly. "Don't tell anyone, but I'm scared as hell."

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the perseverence despite it... Abraham Lincon," Mayday recited.

from the sky Iron Man and a small squad of SHIELD agents descended. "I'm offering you nicely," Tony called. "If you come with me to get registered, there doesn't have to be trouble."

"And if we say no," Prodigy retorted.

"Then you will be detained, forcibly if necessary, and taken to prison," Tony replied cooly.

"Sorry, Mr. Stark," Mayday said in a cold voice. "But we wish to remain in free country."

"You don't stand a chance," Tony said quietly, pleadingly to Mayday.

"I'd rethink those odds," Called a voice joining them on the rooftop. Mayday looked to see two males, one roughly 17 in a white and black jumpsuit, the other 13 wearing blue and black. both looked strikingly similar. the one who'd spoken was Alex "Zero-G" Power, and the one in blue was Jack "Mass Master" Power. Jack was Mayday's boyfriend.

"Jack!" Mayday called.

"Well, Alex was coming out as a New Warrior, and I bugged him to bring me along," Jack smiled.

"Their not alone either," came another voice. Tony turned to see Justice floating up with Rage on a telekinetic disk.

"You know," Justice called, after Rage had jumped onto the rooftop, "We were gonna register, but hearing someone actually speak in defense of the New Warriors... We couldn't let that go unsupported."

"Especially when the speaker was kinda cute," Rage added, with a wink to Mayday.

"Nor could we," called the ressonating voice of Cloak as he opened up his cloak from thin air and Dagger leapt out.

Tony, taking the whole scene in, descretely signaled for reinforcements. "I'm asking you all, one more time; Cloak, Dagger, Justice, Rage, Zero-G, Mass Master, Prodigy, Spider-Girl... register, or you are under arrest."

"No," they spoke simultaneously.

The attack came instantly. they each reacted to their nearest targets, but that wasn't working well. Dagger was quickly getting overwhelmed, and Cloak was having a poor time protecting her.

"Cloak!" Mayday called as she jumped in to protect Dagger. "Send Iron Man to the Darkforce Dimension for a little bit." She pointed at Iron Man who was going toe-to-toe with Prodigy, and winning. "Zero-G, levitate the non-airborne guys!" She called to Alex. "Dagger, stun those guys coming in from the north. Alex, get small and get scrapping!" She snapped out orders quick, and they were followed without hesitation. "Justice, back up Zero-G. Rage, grab something heavy and throw it at people who don't look nice."

fore five minutes they seemed to be winning. Cloak dumped Iron Man out on the roof top before he was fully "drained". but reinforcements were on the approach.

"Cloak," Mayday called as she knocked the heads of two "Cape-Killers" together. "Think you have enough in you to get us out of here?" She slung another agent into Rage's waiting fist.

"Yes, gather 'round Dagger!" he shouted back. Mayday web-yanked both Mass Master and Rage toward the being of light, while the others made their way toward her just before the whole group was engulfed in the darkness of Cloak's cloak. the only source of light was Dagger.

"Huddle close to me," she warned them. "My light protects those who travel through here. Without it..." she didn't finish.

Tony struggled to his feet. He looked at the rooftop battle field around them and cursed. he couldn't help but feel that if only Mayday had kept her mouth shut, things would have gone differently.

Compelling, May dealing with CW. I'm gonna have to take my time on this one.

Spider-Girl and the Civil War Pt. III

Who is Right, Who is Left

It was almost a week after the fight at refinery. Cassie had been laid to rest with inumerable people attending her ceremony. Tony was one of many fielding wrongful death suits from Cassie's mother. Hank was inconsolable. Tony went to see one of his confidants, Reed Richards.

"Reed?" he asked loudly. Tony found Reed in his lab. It was early for Reed to be at work. "Hey," Tony greeted him. "Where is everyone?" The Baxter Building, usually a mad house of family activity, was eerily silent.

"Sue left," Reed replied in a hollow voice. he was sitting at a computer console, which was off, rereading her note. "Johnny went with her... he's okay by the way."

"I'm sorry," Tony said, putting a hand on Reed's shoulder. "Did- did she say why?"

"Why do you think," Reed retorted in an uncharactaristically annoyed tone. his morphed his shoulder out of Tony's grip and walked away. "There are a lot of people switching sides over this, aren't there?"

"Nighthawk came to us," Tony countered. "As did Speed."

"A little girl is dead because of our creation," Reed said, looking out the window.

"We had no way of knowing..." Tony started, but was cut off by Reed's sad sigh.

"We cloned an asguardian... I'll be the first to admit to 'Playing God'... but this is way beyond even that," Reed said quietly, pain lacing his voice.

"Reed, you remember what you, me, and Hank talked about," Tony pressed. "I know the girl's death is..."

"THe girl?!" Reed asked incredulously. "The girl?" he repeated. "Tony, you lived with her in the mansion, I took her to a water-park, she wasn't just a girl... she was..." His eyes strayed away. "She could have been..."

"You think about Valeria," Tony finally surmised.

"Yes," Reed admitted. "I agreed to help you with this Tony because I wanted a better world for my kids to grow up in. Because I saw Franklin and Valeria in the faces of every corpse they pulled from Stamford... but... What are we willing to become for that world Tony?"

"She died because she was in a fight that wasn't hers to begin with, and because children were being used in a fight you and I would never have allowed." Tony's eyes projected a firmness into Reed's.

Reed nodded. "I want it taken off line until I can check through it's code, find out why the hell it used lethal force."

"Granted," Tony agreed. He turned to leave the laboratory with his head hung low. He'd been looking for consolation, not to give it. It was as Reed had said, he'd lived with Cassie, seen her grow. All the same, talking with Reed had renewed his faith in what they were doing. He was going to make a better world, a world in which children didn't have to die for someone else's cause.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was two days after Peter Parker had been brought in by the Punisher. They were still trying to figure out how to attack the Negative Zone prison. They needed to get in the building, but Mayday had lead a strong opposition to the Punisher helping the cause. She had managed to convince Captain America when she said, "In his kind of war there are only allies, and the people you are going to kill. there is no middle ground with him."
"You know I spent time there once," Peter told Goliath conversationally. His arm was still mending, but thanks to the Night Nurse's care, he was already back on his feet. "Made me leader of a resistance," he reminiced. "Even gave the name of their 'Captain America'."
"What was that?" asked Goliath, as he tried to figure out how the pro-regs had managed to make an asguardian clone/cyborg.
"Dusk," Peter concluded. "They called me..."
"Did you say 'Dusk'? as a name?" asked Ritchie Gilmore, who'd been talking to Justice nearby.
"yeah, all black outfit with a cape, that was me," he said.
"No, that was Cassie St. Commons," Ritchie corrected. "I know her... we... well we were part of a team."
This had Spider-Man's interest. "What sort of powers did she have?"
"Teleportation," Ritchie supplied.
"You think she'd be willing to help us?" asked Peter, curiously.
"I don't know, I can ask her," Ritchie responded helpfully.
"I'll go with you," Peter said. "I'll see if Cap can come too."
CYCLOPS: A NEW MAN
So I know Astonishing X-Men hasn't "ended" yet, and I'm sure Joss still has a lot in store for good old Scott Summers before his run is over. What I would like to see after Whedon's final AXM issue, is a little three issue mini that redefines Cyclops. Now, I know Cycke will probably have his powers back sooner than later, but considering this is "How You Would Do It", I'd have Cycke still be powerless when they return from space.
cyclopsxh0.jpg
The series would deal with three main themes, each pertaining to one issue. As Cyclops returns from space, he and his team will have just missed the aftermath of Civil War and the death of Captain America. Remember Emma's little speech about true leaders in AXM #14? The first issue would revolve around not only Cycke's opinion of the other leaders (most notably Cap), but also how he is viewed in the Marvel universe. It's really all about the picture of Cyclops in the bigger picture of the MU.
As such, the characters that can come by are quite varied. Cyclops will first visit the New Avengers, the team that was led by Cap and of which Wolverine is a member. Assisting them in a mission, Cycke gets to show off his excellent tactical and leadership skills. Even though he's powerless, all of the New Avengers follow his lead in battle. He also gives Luke Cage a few tips on how to handle the team, and esppecially Logan. After that little mission, Cycke's approached by Tony Stark, and they have a little chat about the Civil War, the hounding of anti-registration heroes. The conversation ends with Cycke angrily leaving the Helicarrier. Supplemental to this main storyline, the back of the issue would several different young characters (Runaways, Young Avengers, New Warriors) discussing Cyclops, with both positive and negative voices.
The second element that needs dealing with is Cyclops' place among the X-Men and his role at the school. The characters looking at Cyclops in this case are the New X-Men, who get to witness the now powerless Cyclops in a Danger Room session. A session he's modelled after his complete and utter schooling of the X-Men way back in UXM #175, and one that he now has to perform powerless. Finding new and inventive ways, Cyclops take care of the X-Men quite handily, leaving the New X-Men utterly flabbergasted.
What follows is a look at Cyclops' role in the X-Men throughout the tenure of the team. In the 60s he's the gangly awkward teenager that still leads the X-Men quite well, but is often assisted by Xavier. In the 70s, he really becomes his own man, and is the undisputed leader of the X-Men right up till his battle with Storm. It's the 80s where Cyclops becomes an even more troubled individual as he has to deal with X-Factor and the return of Jean Grey. His role in the 90s is a contrasting one. While the new X-Men look wearily about this veteran, accusing him of being Xavier's lapdog, he still commands respect, even from his enemies (such as the Acolytes, who survived the Australian outback thanks to his leadership). Again, in the back of the issue would be short little pieces by some of the more popular and lesser known characters, all expressing their opinion on Cycke.
It's the final issue that focusses on what is perhaps Cycke's more defining trait. His dependance on (and also the other way around) women. The one thing it wouldn't do is focus on either Jean or Emma. It's all about the relationships he's had between these two women. Most strikingly perhaps, they were all women he had something with after something with Jean occurred (such as her death).
One of the prominently featured characters would be Colleen Wing, who he had a short flirtation with after he thought Jean had died. I'm pretty sure we haven't seen these two characters on-panel since. It'd be nice to see these two interact again, and have Cycke meet the Heroes for Hire. This could really show how Cyclops has changed, as Colleen hardly even recognizes him anymore. The other prominent character would be Lee Foreset, who he had an actual fling with after Jean died the first time, but hasn't seen since either.
Finally, the issue ends with Cyclops returning to the mansion and crawling into bed with Emma. Cyclops has reasserted himself by basically travelling through his life with a new view, and he can now clearly see the wealth of potential that is still there for him to grow as a person. Maybe even more importantly, the mini gets to clear up a few things about Cycke's life, and y'know, show him as the badass he is.
"Yes," Reed admitted. "I agreed to help you with this Tony because I wanted a better world for my kids to grow up in. Because I saw Franklin and Valeria in the faces of every corpse they pulled from Stamford... but... What are we willing to become for that world Tony?"
"She died because she was in a fight that wasn't hers to begin with, and because children were being used in a fight you and I would never have allowed." Tony's eyes projected a firmness into Reed's.
Reed nodded. "I want it taken off line until I can check through it's code, find out why the hell it used lethal force."
"Granted," Tony agreed. He turned to leave the laboratory with his head hung low. He'd been looking for consolation, not to give it. It was as Reed had said, he'd lived with Cassie, seen her grow. All the same, talking with Reed had renewed his faith in what they were doing. He was going to make a better world, a world in which children didn't have to die for someone else's cause.
It was two days after Peter Parker had been brought in by the Punisher. They were still trying to figure out how to attack the Negative Zone prison. They needed to get in the building, but Mayday had lead a strong opposition to the Punisher helping the cause. She had managed to convince Captain America when she said, "In his kind of war there are only allies, and the people you are going to kill. there is no middle ground with him."
"You know I spent time there once," Peter told Goliath conversationally. His arm was still mending, but thanks to the Night Nurse's care, he was already back on his feet. "Made me leader of a resistance," he reminiced. "Even gave the name of their 'Captain America'."
"What was that?" asked Goliath, as he tried to figure out how the pro-regs had managed to make an asguardian clone/cyborg.
"Dusk," Peter concluded. "They called me..."
"Did you say 'Dusk'? as a name?" asked Ritchie Gilmore, who'd been talking to Justice nearby.
"yeah, all black outfit with a cape, that was me," he said.
"No, that was Cassie St. Commons," Ritchie corrected. "I know her... we... well we were part of a team."
This had Spider-Man's interest. "What sort of powers did she have?"
"Teleportation," Ritchie supplied.
"You think she'd be willing to help us?" asked Peter, curiously.
"I don't know, I can ask her," Ritchie responded helpfully.
"I'll go with you," Peter said. "I'll see if Cap can come too."
Good Stuff Zoke. Damn good.
A while ago I wrote a synopsis of my Ultimate DC universe. Now, after some thought, I've revised my ideas, and will thus write up a revised version. First up, Ultimate Batman:
A Breif History of Gotham City: Gotham was founded on what is now the Southern New Jersey shore in 1635 by a small group of Norwegian colonists, led by a "Norwegian mercenary." The man's idenity is largely disputed, as no records of his name or birth were kept. Some accounts of the English in that area give mention to a prominant Norwegian named "Erik," but wether or not this Erik was in fact the founder is unknown. The Norwegian's settlement's origional name is also unknown. However, later English colonists noted that many of it's residents refered to it as Loki's By, which in English means "Loki's Town." This is most likely due to a beliefe amung the origional settlers that the land was cursed, and has led some to believe that many of the tragedies and crime in Gotham's history are due to said curse.
In 1645, a group of English colonists happened upon the area, and settled next to the Norwegians. Tempers flared over the English intruders, which quickly escalated into a full out conflict, ending with the English taking the settlement and naming it "New Gotham," after the villaige of Gotham in the English county of Nottinghamshire. However, over the years, the "new" was used less and less in the popular vernacular, and eventually even the city's "welcome" sign simply refered to it as Gotham.
Early on, Gotham was a fairly poor settlement, until 1690, when the Waynes, a family of Scottish merchents, moved to Gotham and brought their small shipping company with them. The company grew and flourished, pouring mass amounts of wealth into the town. Afterwards, Gotham remained a wealthy, rural area for 150 years. This all changed in the early 1840s, when an influx of immagrants forced the town to spread outwards and urbanize. This movement was spearheaded by Judge Solomon Wayne, heir to the Wayne Shipping Corperation and wealthiest man in town. He helped to insure that the city would have architecture that it's citizens would be proud of. Many of the buildings constructed during Solomon's life are heavily influenced by Gothic architecture, a personal favorite style of Solomon's.
Gotham gained a great deal of atention in 1893, when it beat out Chicago as host for that year's World's Fair. The giant Statue of Justice, located just outside of Gotham's first courthouse and one of it's most well known landmarks, was made for the Fair.
Gotham City is somewhat famous for having four "bad parts of town." They are The Bowery, a predominantly Itallian neighborhood with a strong Mafia presence, The Cauldron, a predominantly Irish neighborhood more or less run by the Irish mob, The East End, an ethnically mixed neighborhood known for it's drugs, prostitution, and various rivaled gangs, and the Narrows, a housing project built on an island directly off the coast of the city, which is incredibly poor and known for violent crimes.
Gotham's reputation is not entirely negative, however. Wayne Enterprises, the modern version of the Wayne Shipping Company, is a massive conglomerate that employs much of Gotham with branches all over the world. Grand Avenue, Gotham's theater district, is world renound and almost rivals Broadway. Gotham's other main landmarks, besides the Statue of Justice, is "The Giants," a series of giant objects made for an add campaign for a prop company that had been bought by the Waynes in the 1920s. Each object corresponds to the area it is in: The giant Piano resides over the theater district, the giant Typrewriter is in the print district, the giant Gun is near Police Headquarters, the giant Pie is over Gotham Square, which is well known for it's resturaunts, the giant boot is on top of the Glass Slipper, a famous shoe store, etc. All of the objects, with the exceotion of the pie and the gun, actually work.
Wow, that was longer than I thought. I'll have more on the rest of my revised Ultimate Batman mythos later.
