14 movies have made at least 300 million domesticly, in its 1st release, and POTC has 2 of those 14 spots. So POTC 2 is in some elete company.

Spidey 3 has something about it that will draw the audiances in. I think Spidey 2 showed that the sequels still rock, and that three will be no different.

I hope so, but I highly doubt it. People love POTC (including me), and the ending of the second one just left everybody wanting more. So I think POTC 3 will break its predecessor's records. But, Spider-Man 3 will, without a doubt, a huge box-office hit.

About SPidey 3 making more than $400m I have doubts.

People, of course it has 2 weekends and one of the highest levels of hypeness, but it won't make so much. And you know why?

Because there are Shrek 3 and POTC3.

Spidey 3 will have enough huge opening and $200m in 2nd weekend, what will help it to get to $390m and become #1 in domestic.

But I also think that POTC3 will make very high numbers ($335-345m) and Shrek 3 ($285-295m).

You know, one thing about money making records and all (I think I mentioned this before) Is that, it's not really fair. The first star wars ever made is still in the top ten for all time money gross, and think of how much cheaper the tickets were back then. They should go on ticket sales, not how much money is made, because then, heck we might find out that Gone With the Wind is the biggest movie ever.

tbh who cares if pirates does break spideys record, it was a groundbreking record already, and spidey would still recieve enough money to consider more movies which is what people are worried about no? all i care about is that the movie delivers the best movie it can be

Spider-Man 3 is opening May 4th. That gives it two weeks to make crazy money before Shrek The Third opens May 18th. The one to worry about is POTC: At World's End, which opens May 25th, and will have a HUGE Memorial Day weekend, probably breaking X-Men: The Last Stand's record.

Good point. I never said 3 would lose to At World's End, and I think it won't.

I have a feeling we're destined to be majorly disappointed with POTC3. The hype will be too much, considering DMC was just a set-up movie.

Shrek The Third won't be the juggernaut 2 was. No way. Little kids will go see this movie in droves, though.

Spider-Man 3 wins. Hands down. I think the opening weekend is the best weekend to open with.
