The Dark Knight Rises Anyone else think they overrated Harvey Dent's importance to the story?

The ones that hold the most weight for me are Ramirez as Montoya, Jen as Holly Robinson, and Tiny Lister as Croc.

Lol, it's not Deadshot. I think that's just based on old rumors that Deadshot was gonna be a character in the movie from before TDKR was released.

And yeah, I dig Barsad, Stewart managed to do a lot with a little with that role. Little touches like that are what allow me to invest in the larger history that TDKR is only able to allude to. I agree with the Bob the Goon analogy milost, he was kind of as close as this universe got to a character like that.

He also kinda reminded me of this guy in Begins.

Both of them give off this badass, yet fiercely loyal vibe.

Yeah, I thought Barsad was neat too. Stewart's accent was a bit iffy though - I like how he just randomly goes British in the bridge scene with the Special Forces. :awesome:

The revelation of the Dent cover up was badly handled. All we got as a reaction to the big cover up ( and I don't know why anyone would just take Bane's word for it either) was Blake giving Gordon a flowery speech about the morality of what he'd done. No Gotham reaction at all to it.

Bingo! Like BatLobsterrises, I wondered more about how the lie would be explained in the third film, than I did about which villains would be used. Since Batman falsely took the blame, I figured he'd have his name cleared in the end. That would be a given. What I really wondered is how they could expose Gordon as a liar and then rebuild his character's standing in the public's eye. Not an easy feat to do. Unfortunately, Nolan decided to completely dodge this bullet and not offer any explanation of how Gotham felt. Even Foley took a moral tongue lashing from Gordon without giving him so much as a retort about how Gordon lied to the public. If we are to believe that Gotham took Bane's word as gospel, then why was Gordon still the commissioner at the ending of the film? None of this is explained. All in all, I find the Dent Dilemma badly handled/answered in TDKR. With the threat of a terrorist having a nuclear bomb in the midst of the city, is a corrupt D.A. or lying Police Commissioner that big of a deal?

Gordon did help save the city from being wiped out on the map, so it looks like they cut him some slack. Or maybe it'll be looked into at a later date. It's hyper-reality. It seems like a real world but there's things in all 3 movies that show that it's not exactly the world we live in. Slightly different rules. When you present people with a world like that, it's easier to shrug off technicalities and details that we would be dealing with in our world. It's still a movie at the end of the day.

When Barsad tells Gordon he is arrested by "the people" that was Nolan's chance to have Gordon show remorse in front of everyone while he stood trial at the kangaroo court. It could have played out almost exactly like the Dent press conference in TDK, with random Gothamites speaking out in an angry fashion over the cover up.

And don't give me the "oh I'm glad we had less extra's acting poorly" excuse, lol. They weren't that bad.:oldrazz:

Better acted than Talia's death scene ;)

can you imagine all the other takes if this was the one chosen to be in the film

They mention Dent like a hundred times in this movie. But when they reveal the big cover up nobody except Blake acts like they give a damn. Big 'ol letdown to the big cover up exposed. Weak weak weak.

Hate hate hate. You know, for a minute there, I though you and milost were the same poster/user. :oldrazz:

For me, the whole montage of the breakout, riot and violence in the city IS Gotham's/everybody's reaction to the revelation.

That's a nice way of looking at it, I agree.

That being said, even as a supporter of TDKR I have to admit I would've liked to have seen something more.

Well didnt Goyer said that he is a fan of Deadshot, and that Barsad's bullet strap was a nod?

Did he say that? Never heard that before. I kind of even doubt Goyer had much to do with the Barsad character to be honest, let alone his wardrobe (which looks like a pretty standard mercenary look). Jonah is the mainly the one who brought the Tale of Two Cities influence to the table and that's where the character gets his name.

If there's a quote though I'd be interested in hearing it.

I can't find it. Could just be a name though. Like Jen, it's not used in the film.
