Anyone think the FF2 will be better Spiderman 3?

Where does that figure come from?
Not doubting it necessarily; just wondering.
Was there some kind of exit poll?

I'm not expecting it to be better than SM3, I just hope it's a lot better than the first film.

I doubt it but that's no dig on FF. Unlike many, I actually loved Spidey 3 and found it the best of the trilogy as well as one of the best comic book movies ever made.

That said, I'm sure FF will be more fun, I'm more hyped for it and it'll be more comic accurate in many ways (the whole cheesy aspect IS present in the comics, let's remember- no dig, just an observation). But as good a movie? I think not.

Then again I really liked X3 so who am I to judge.

I loved Spider-Man 3. It's all a matter of opinion. I hate threads like this. I'm hoping this film is good because I liked the 1st one.

Nope. In no way shape or form will FF2 be better than Spidey 3. It will be a light hearted entertaning romp with a fantastic (pardon the pun) new character. I expect to laugh...amybe cringe a couple of times but I expect to enjoy it...nothing more.

I feel your pain.....

Nevermind that Spider-man 3 has received by far the worst reviews in that franchise's history. Somehow the nation's film critics knew what they were talking about when they trashed FF1 but have clearly lost their minds when they say Spider-man 3 comes up short. Riiiight.

Nevermind the same people I know who loved Spider-man 1 & 2 dislike Spidey 3 intensely. They have obviously gone collectively insane.

I thought FF1 & Spidey 3 both sucked.
(It just cost a lot more money for Spidey 3 to suck.)

I've been saying all day this thread is pointless.

Two years ago, a Batman Begins vs Fantastic Four thread would have been closed by now. It's just an inflamatory subject and again pointless since only one of the movies is out.

I like Batman, I like Spider-man and I like the Fantastic Four.
I just want to see good films for these characters.
But with rare exception (Batman Begins, Spidey 1 & 2, X2) we usually don't get that in my opinion.

The fact is fanboys who favor one franchise over the other(s) are going to be inclined to view their favorite through rose-colored glasses and defend said favorite vociferously.

That's not intelligent discussion.
That's pointless.

The last 40 minutes of SM3 were convoluted, contrived and messy but still fun, action packed and emotional, the rest of the film prior to the last 40 minutes i thought was really good and again had the prerequisite emotion, character, laughs and action.....i expect some laughs and action out of FF2 but given the run time i fear it will come up short on the other 2 ingredients

Who cares about critics? Critics certainly have a pattern of crushing a third film simply because they don't like the concept of sequels. So unless that film is exceptionally good they're going to give bad reviews. And further, some of the critiques were just silly. For example on Ebert & Roeper- Roeper is criticizing Sandman as a CONCEPT- querying about what he could do to be dangerous- MEANWHILE the clip is running against Roeper's voice over showing Sandman literally wiping the streets with the police. So the answer is right there. He was just being a jerk. Similar to Ebert saying the FF characters were like other heroes. Not a valid crticism.

Of course some people are going to hate every movie you can think of. There were at the same time poeple who didn't like Spidey 1 & 2 that loved 3.

I thought FF1 & Spidey 3 both sucked.

I agree with half of your statement. FF1 did absolutely SUCK. Spidey 3 was clunky. MaryJane and the whole relationship between her and Peter needs to be irradicated from the franchise. It's a very ugly, ugly thing. But that doesn't change the fact that Spidey 3 was highly entertaining. Far more thought and creativity was put into Spidey 3 than FF1 and for that matter anything I'm seeing from FF2. The movie just looks very pedestrian, and let's not forget that FF1 had a very bad script to boot and 2 is showing signs of the same scripting problems.

I like Batman, I like Spider-man and I like the Fantastic Four.
I just want to see good films for these characters.

Right. Mostly because these studios don't make these films like any other- meaning put together a great script, hire a diorector who has an actual vision and isn't a figurehead based on their track record.

The fact is fanboys who favor one franchise over the other(s) are going to be inclined to view their favorite through rose-colored glasses and defend said favorite vociferously.

Dude, you're the only one bringing up favoring one franchise over an another. I haven't read a post here that says that Spider-Man is just a better franchise. It isn't inherently better. Just more effort is placed in the Spidey films than has been shown with the FF. What do you expect with the same people makng the films?

I'm about as harsh a critic as there is, and I can easily list every bad thing in Spidey 3. But the truth of the matter is that desptie all its problems, it still stands head and shoulders over the work being produced by Tim Story and his crew. Just the way the actors play out their scenes suggests they just don't believe in what's happening in the story. The cast of Spider-Man clearly do, sometimes too much- even if the script and lines are kinda goofy at times.

Spider-Man 3 is in my opinion the worst of the three films. It's not worth picking apart as it's already been done many times over here at the Hype. It's not a horrible movie, but it certainly could have been much better. FF2 looks to be a great comic book adaptation; looks can be deceiving, but this time around, I have faith in the four.

No. Spider-Man 3 was a great movie, and I think FF2 will be good but not great. Spider-Man 3 was one of those movies I can watch and find new things to appreciate. I like the story's flow now, and see what Raimi was going for and that makes me love it more.

FF2 already seems more like FOX hacking something down for money. It feels more commercial, while Spidey seemed more like a film.

Spiderman 3 was a piece of garbage. So if FF2 is decent then I will be happy.

Anyone still think FF2 will do better than Spiderman? I'm undecided

Financially no...it will be lucky to make half of what SM3 did worldwide. Critically, It would not do as well as SM3...it will do better than the first but will probably end up in the 40% - 50% range over at RT.

No not box office. No way will FF 2 reach 900 WW, or 800. 200 dom, 400 ww would be a huge suscess, over the 1st which made 330 WW. What do the critics know anyway ? They were sayin Ocens 13 was going to make 50 million this weekend. Now it seams it will strugle to make 34. I tell you this movie will capture the kids. The PG rating will not hurt either. Suprise hit of the summer. Sticking with that.

This has no shot at beating Spider-Man 3's box office.

A better question would be does it have a shot at beating X2. That is more around where I can see this movie grossing.

Still don't get the hate many give SM3, but to each his own I guess.

A better question is who the hell brought this thread back to the front page....*sighs*

FF2 has no chance in hell of beating X2. It could make around $180-$190 million at best.

FF did beat X-Men.
