APP. "Gotta Catch 'em All." The Pokemon RPG.

Sounds good, SF. If that is set in stone, count me in for being interested in this mature spin on Pokemon.

I'll be making a trainer. Not sure about his class though.

I could argue for certain rules to be bent slightly for those playing Gym Leaders and the like (like maybe allowing one more to start with, or another fully evolved Pokémon to start).

And I think it's best that we don't limit which games the pokemon on your team come from. Have a mix, have a whole Kanto team, whatever it doesn't matter.

And by the way, 2 vs. 2 battles ARE in the games.
I know that the later generations had 2 vs 2, I was making a point that I don't want EVERY Generation 1 rule to be followed to the mark (including Red/Blue-only Pokemon limitations).

Yo, I think I may be in for a Gym leader. I don't want a huge role. I just want to be able to fight some people. Am I allowd to pick any Gym leader not taken?
I'm not a GM, but I'm pretty sure you can Syn. Marko has Brock and I have Giovanni. Btw which Gym Leader were you thinking?

I should have been more clear. That rule was obviously only if you were to create your own trainer. :clown:
Oh I see, then I'm not as worried about it :oldrazz:

All the Pokémon that currently exist are available (aside from the legendaries), but the action will take place mostly in Kanto (the first Gen region for the uninitiated) although I want Johto to be used as well.
Do realize that I see some people in this RPG (like me) are not that familiar with Johto.

No levels. I think it flows better that way. As in the anime and manga, the battles are more like what we're used to here in the RPGs.
That sounds good, turn-based battles in a forum RPG are a big no. It would be good if in the bio, you give a slight idea of what level your Pokemon may be though.

Created characters start with three, but can catch more eventually. As for the Gym Leaders (and pre-existing Trainers in the game), I was thinking of letting them start with the Pokémon they have in their latest chronological appearance in the games (i.e. Gold and Silver for the Kanto guys, as it takes place two years after Red/Blue/Yellow).
Well, it appears that Giovanni basically disappears after R/B/Y, so I suppose I'll stick with his Viridian Gym lineup. Could I include Pokemon that he's had in his confrontations with Red, or some specific version ones? (in Yellow, he has a Persian, but in Red/Blue, he has a Kangaskhan)

I did some research on Team Rocket on what happened after Kanto ... Something about the remnants being controlled by a guy with an Ice Mask and a whole bunch of crap. Could I PLEASE retcon that and go with something actually cool?

Yes, we are using trainer classes to help develop a characters focus on their Pokémon, as well as their outside interests.

Catching a Pokémon in a post should be a big dramatic event, even if it is just a Rattata or Caterpie. Put some effort into it, make it believable and it'll be fun.
I will be sure to make it epic :cwink:

Well, I haven't been given any authority yet, and Jinn hasn't gotten back to me with a verdict on the guidelines Marko and I came up with (this is still Jinn's show, and I don't want to take over), but I'm pushing for the levels to be generally irrelevant, and victory depends on the skill of the trainer (as well as type match-ups, environments, etc.), and that the moves a Pokémon uses in battle only depends on their species. For example; a Squirtle can use Water Gun, Bite, Withdraw, Tackle and Rapid Spin in the same battle without problem, as a Squirtle can learn any of these moves by leveling up in the video games, but here he'd be able to use them all. Now, if he wanted to use Mega Punch, then the Trainer would have to develop this in the story (either by finding a TM or seeking a Move Tutor, both of which should be small side-quests, not just "Hey, look! A TM!").

Wasn't the Mask thing in the manga only? I guess we could forego that in favor of the video games history. I'd leave that up to Jinn.

So you're extending it past Gold and Silver?

I don't know if I'm too interested in that.

We're thinking of keeping the characters and world in Kanto and Johto (you can find maps of Johto if you're no too familiar with it), but all Pokemon are available. (even into DP).

I think that gym leaders should be allowed to explore beyond their Pokemon they have in the games. For example, I was thinking of giving Brock something like a Poliwhirl to level out his ranks a bit, along with Geodude and Onix. Maybe say you can have one apart of the original roster or something.

RESERVE LIST
Brock - Mr Marko
Giovanni - NamesAreUseless

Any more takers on the reserve list?

I'm also thinking for the gym leaders, they should have a bigger role than just fighting people so they can get badges. What does everyone think of having them reimagined as the resident enforcer/sheriff/kick-your-ass Pokemon expert in the city. Just a thought.

Forgive my ignorance...but what's 'DP?'

I gave up after Gold and Silver. There are just too many f***in' Pokemon after that - which is why I'm not cool with extending past that. If we are, I'm not interested. Sorry.

Diamond and Pearl. You don't need to personally go with the ones beyond Gold and Silver. Just stick with those ones. Its seems to me that most people are going to be sticking with that anyways, but we're just leaving the other ones open just in case somebody wants to have one of the newer ones.

Yeaaaaaaah, that just doesn't click with me. I despise the Generations past II, so...

Best of luck to you all, but that's a deal-breaker for me. I like to actually know half the Pokemon.

:wow: this is getting more buzz than I thought!!!

Heres what I think should happen with what I've been reading.

  • The RPG will take place in Kanto.
  • First Gen and Second Gen Poke' are available. Anything past that must be approved by GM.
  • NO Legendaries. They can be NPC'd but only if given permission.
  • Players can start off with three. Anymore must be kept somewhere else. To get these out of storage you must put one in you possession in it's place.
Thats all I got from what I've read. I'll make up a player application tonight.

The max Pokémon carried is typically six, and I think we should keep it that way.

Suggestion: How about including a small description of the character's personality, and the personalities of their Pokémon.

Also: two things; (1) we need a list of who's interested so we can get this game officially approved; and (2) for those of you who don't know, typing the "é" in Pokémon consists of holding the Alt ket and hitting 0-2-3-3. é

If anything past Gen II is off-limits (barring GM approval), then I could work with it.

I'm still wanting a Bastiodon and a Gardevoir eventually.

I'm cool with I and II Gen. I was saying all Gens just so everyone could have a choice on who they wanted instead of limiting even more since you cannot have the SUPER rares or Legendary; I wasn't going to go past II Gen anyway.

I'm not a definant, so don't count me as official. Granted life doesn't **** on me, I'm in. But I'm still iffy.

Oh, you know you want to. We need some good RPers in here to fuel some story lines. Syn, I think we need to get an arc going early on.

Are we still going to be able to create a trainer, or did you the GMs get rid of that?

I really want to join this but I have my doubts, I'm trying to keep my RP's at a managable level (which for me is nothing over about 6 characters.)

Count me in BUT I can't guarantee it.
