I don't know if Americans are stupid, but I do know that Australians are definately smarter than everyone else.

Seriously, though, that first one reminds me of Jay Leno's segment 'Jaywalking'. They'd have to be the dumbest people I've ever seen.

I heard that that show tests you before you go on and if you score higher than a certain score, you won't be allowed on the show. And it's pretty obvious that the kids are all top students.

As for the topic of discussion. It's been said that one of the only ways a country can be set up so that it's citizen's fear their own government, is to weaken it's education system and to keep it's citizens in a constant state of fear. It sure looks like that is what's happening with the U.S.

Depends what criteria your using, I bet some of these particular idiots might have had high aptitudes in mechanics, or some trade.
Or perhaps they dedicated a lot of their mental prowess to baseball knowledge or something equally useless.
On average most people have the potential to be moderately well learned. Different influences guide how that potential will be used or wasted.

There's a lot influencing people to be mindless in North America.

I would honestly say more than half are stupid.Not all of them,the smart people control the country while the dumb work to maintain it.They work for the smart people.

Why do attitudes like "we just don't care" prevail?

-It helps contribute to mindless consumerism
-It helps keep people in power
-It helps the rich get richer and the poor get poorer
-Mass ignorance is vital to control in a free country
-It makes gaining support for awful things easier
-It makes ignoring important issues easier

And there is much much more, the U.S. could be a modern day Athens, even though it manages to produces some of the greatest minds, it certainly inhibits the potential for more.

You couple these factors alongside the great many diversions set in place for us, and it is no wonder that many are oblivious to anything happening outside of their own little controlled world.

That is actually what I hate the most. Its not ignorance. If someone doesn't know something, and then they know it, they have learned. But its people who are content with their stupidity that drive me insane. Like they are proud that they are idiots. They are the Wal-Mart customers I meet everyday, who are just happy to be stupid. Ahh The Chaser, the pride of Australia. I have to admit though, they do that to us Aussies all the time so I wouldn't feel so bad (politicians most of the time). They are based in Adelaide, where I live, and it's not hard to find them out and about looking for people to take the mickey out of them.
