Are there certain kinds of Fanboys that annoy you? - Part 1

i'm glad people have passion. Just annoys me when it's lengthy, and when it's worded as if they're a high paid movie critic. lol. I'm like... really? no one really cares but you. I don't know... just rubs me the wrong way. Like they're tring to feel like a celebrity, or important, or something.. not sure if i'm describing it correctly. Almost a touch of arrogance and narcissism to confirm their own self-worth.

Do you care about the opinions of high paid movie critics?

As long as someone knows what they are talking about, is saying something interesting and isn't being obnoxiously pretentious, i don't see the problem.

On that note, i hate film snobs. Those who think a mainstream film is a lesser form of film making. Also the reverse, those who almost have a phobia of indie films and are like "I'm not watching that pretentious art house crap!" As though any smaller, indie film is inherently pompous and pretentious.

A good film is a good film. Mainstream or indie. Action or drama. Horror or romance. Thriller or comedy.

Basically, ignorant small minded "fans".

this as well annoys me, but then again... i get annoyed at people who close themselves off to anything

Yea, it's all about eclectic tastes. I couldn't imagine living without an open mind. I mean, one of my favourite ever films is Animal House. Another one of my favourite films is Mulholland Drive. Being close minded is doing nothing but making your own life boring.

life's too short as well to not experience all that you can, and limit yourself to saying "never" to something you haven't even tried.

That's why that GD geek stuff you're not into thread pissed me off so much...

yeah.. that thread was sorta a doorway to "lets make other's feel bad for not liking what they like" kinda deal. Even unintentionally. Lots of people in their tried stuff and couldn't get into it. But having people speak out about it in numbers.. is just going to make that fan of that stuff feel more ostracized.

"My name's Bob and I'm a heroin addict"

"Hi, Bob"

"It all started because some stranger on a message board told me I shouldn't say never to anything I hadn't tried. Spideyboy made me do it (sob)!"

Lol. Don't do anything to hurt yourself either

Ironically I stopped halfway posting almost this exact same thing just now.

I hate Fanboys who chide the "mainstream". Not just movies, but music and pop culture as well. Like being cool and hip, and recognizing and using new trends to express yourself is somehow "conformist", but having a subscription to 12 ongoings from the same comic company is not. I also hate how Fanboys will frequently claim their interest is somehow above things like Justin Bieber, bar hoping, Hip Hop, pop music, whatever. As if "the masses" have some lower understanding of fun.

I'll take that snob attitude from a Quantum Physicist who spends his days studying quantum particles, but when it's coming from a Bat-Nerd or a Star Trek Geek it just becomes ridiculous. Someone's love of what's basically children's entertainment and is of no real world importance.

I heard someone say something interesting about comics once: "The only reason people say 'hey, there are [superhero] comics that deal with serious adult situations' is because they are inherently childish. No one sits around a figure out ways to make stories about the Holocaust appeal to adults".

^^ though i agreed with most what you said above...

Something needs to be said about the common perception that comics are merely disposable, children entertaintment.

Comics are more than just the superhero stuff...

Comics such as Maus has won the pulitzer prize. To me that is a big deal. Maybe not as important as Quantum physics, but still...

And there are also comics by Will Eisner, whose works was considered important enough, the industry has named one of it's most prestigious award after his name.

And let's not forget works by Moore, Gaiman etc. Which shown that comics is and can be more than just mindless children's entertaintment.

To quote Morningstar post... a good film is a good film. And to me a good story is a good story, even if it's written on toilet paper...or in a comic form.

That's my only disagreement with your post.

I do agree with how annoying the elitists fanboys can be though...

*adds to the list*

Fanboys who are already comparing The Amazing Spider-Man to Raimi's trilogy because they REALLY hate Spider-Man 3.

Wait for the movie to come out, a$$wipes.

Or mostly Raimi fanboys who attack and dismiss ASM.

Yep, DC fans.:cwink: The only DC hero I like is Batman. All the rest just annoy me, especially how ridiculous Superman and Wonder-Woman are.

Marvel's heroes are outlandish, but they're generally more grounded and realistic than DC's heroes and I like the fact that they're situated in REAL cities.

I love Vertigo books though.

Screw realism.

Superman and Wonder Woman are realistic. They have real, human personalities. The ridiculous superpowers and mythologies are just the superficial surface elements.

I mean, is Thor or Hulk anymore realistic than Supes and WW? Not really. Or **** even Spider-Man. A guy who got bit by a radio-active spider and got spider powers. How is that anymore realistic than an alien?

Yeah none of them are realistic.

Well, yea. Batman isn't realistic either. It is impossible for a 30 or 40 year old to be an Olympic level athlete in all these different disciplines, have dozens of PhDs, be a Sherlock Holmes esque detective, a Houdini esque escape artist, a master of hundreds of martial arts... and run a multi billion dollar conglomerate and be a famous socialite all on top of that.

You just described Richard Branson.

That, and, humans can't dodge bullets, the law doesn't protect vigilantism, criminals are not cartoonish, nor superstitious, nor cowardly (at least not towards men in bat costumes) and are not intimidated by fighting because they carry guns and are more than willing to retaliate against guys like Batman.

it annoys me when people are on here 24/7 and diss fanboys. Kinda a pot calling the kettle black.... we're all fanboys in some form. Unless you pop in here only about once a month.....
