Are there certain kinds of Fanboys that annoy you? - Part 1

I'll say that Batman Forever is my least favorite Batman film only because it wasn't sure what it wanted to be, a dark haunting Batman story about young Bruce Wanye or a campy fun film like Batman & Robin. I dug both parts separately but it didn't mix well together.

Pretty much, I see it more as it being in the same vein as Adam West's Batman.

I totally agree with you on both point. Two-Face and Riddler were clearly in Adam West show mode, Carrey even seemed to take inspiration from Gorshin to play his character. It's a pity they delete some of the best scene, because execx didn't want it to be too dark. The mix between dark and campy didn't really bother me though.

And I really like Batman and Robin as well. It's a damn fun movie. It's far from bad to me, as I see it like a modern version of the adam west show too. Like Batadam, Batgeorge is a people and his bat-credit card was badass.

Not a fanboy of the Bat, but I think Batman Begins is a great movie

I don't laugh at anyone but Freeze :o
I still like that movie

The only movie in that franchise I can not watch without face cringes is Batman Returns

I can totally respect that dude. It's because of catwoman?

:lmao:

No.

Batman and Robin is like a parody. It should be viewed as such. Like what Austin Powers did to James Bond. And anyone who doesn't enjoy Austin Powers should be murdered... with a Swedish made penis enlarger.

But Austin Powers for the most part is clever and inspired. So was the 60's Batman show.

The Schumacher bat-movies are not.

I said "to me", so you can't answer no. Such is the power of subjectivity.

PS: your username is awesome.

Thanks.

Awww, now I feel like a jerk. Why'd you have to compliment me? :cmad: :cwink:

I'm not a Batman fanboy (liked Begins more than TDK for instance). I just have a special dislike for what Shumaucher did to the franchise, probably because I grew up with the Tim Burton films that I loved. They were the first superhero movies that took its subject somewhat seriously (some say the Superman films from the 70's did, but I just found them so boring). When Schumaucher reset the clock on the gothic darkness that Burton had brought to the films, making Bats a smiling, campy hero and saddling him with corny sidekicks and turning Gotham into a day-glo neon nightmare, it was kinda disheartening. I felt Schumaucher didn't respect the character or the audience that Burton had brought to the franchise. If you like it, that's cool though. Different strokes for different folks.

But my strokes are better than most stokes. :o

The thing with Schumacher is, he shouldn't really be entirely blamed for his Batman films. The blame should fall at WBs feet. He wanted to do something similar to Burton's take originally, but WB was antsy because of Batman Returns and the controversy surrounding it, so made him turn them, B&R in particular, into what amounts to basically toy commercials.

He's a pretty good director really. St Elmo's Fire, Falling Down, Tigerland just off the top of my head.

so you're one of those guys... those guys who think there is such thing as objectivity in art? It's so sad....

I hate the fanboys who think there is such thing as objectivity in art.

At what point did I state my opinion? I thought that was a question about two choices?

But thanks for playing.

Now here's my opinion. There is objectivity in art. To compare the Sistine Chapel to a guy in Soho who cuts himself for ten minutes and calls it Performance Art is inane.

So you see, there is objectivity in Art.

Opinion Nazis; the ones who can't STAND to hear any point of view that differs from their own. You know what? Some people prefer Craig over Connery, Picard over Kirk, Keaton over Bale. SO WHAT?!?!?!? There's no reason to be offended by what they say, or to think less of them for saying it.

I get flack for being a Roger Moore guy.

What?? His universe is the BEST!

:D

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Me too...my first Bond film was a Moore film...I went through all his films then went through the rest of the series...:yay:...I get told a lot his Bond films (except TSWLM and FYEO) are dreck...

...and I totally agree with what Chris Wallace said...

Oooh, I have another one!

I hate people who think EVERYTHING is opinion.

Dude 1: It's raining out. It's a miserable day.

Dude 2: Only in your opinion. In other people's opinions, it could be a beautiful day and I'm going to go on for 500 words about why you're wrong to say that even though I don't really have any vested interest in it myself and am essentially just wasting time for the both of us.

Yep.

I have a lot of fun watching Batman and Robin too....very funny movie. The fanboys that annoy me are NOT the ones that don't like or hate the movie, the fanboys that annoy me are the ones who attack others who say that they enjoy it.

Yep.

"Miserable" is a subjective term, so that technically is an opinion.

It's raining out: fact
It's a miserable day: personal opinion on the weather

Some people might have the opinion that the sky is neon pink and that the Earth is flat and that the Moon is further away than the Sun.

They're wrong. DEAD wrong!

That's not my point.

It's that there are many commonly held social beliefs and statements that - in, Y'know, the real world - are taken as accepted objective truths even though they're really not.

It's a miserable day out because it's raining, it's sad your father died, doing needle drugs is a questionable activity, etc.

And people are okay with that. It's either close enough to the objective truth, or it's not really important enough to disagree with.

But you come on the Internet, and suddenly you're a fool for not saying "it could either be a sad or happy thing hat your dad died depending on your personal feelings for him and the details of your respective relationship with him."

:o

Well, if you killed him for a fat inheritance... :ninja:

Seriously, I get what you're driving at.

My mind went to a darker place. :o

Keaton is Batman, Bale is Baahhmaahh :oldrazz:
I'm proud to be from the class thinking Keaton is the best LA Batman

:doom: :doom: :doom:

There are of course some criterias used to judge art. That's why the oscars exist for instance. Does that mean there is one universal truth about art as well? I don't think so. I'm not interested in so-called masterpieces, and I don't think any form of art can be "universally loved", like you said earlier.

I'm more interested in subjectivity, and I think talking about objectivity in art is really boring. Because you think something is a masterpiece doesn't mean every single person in the world will like it, nor should they. While the sistine chapel is considered a masterpiece, I bet some people are not touched by it. They can look at it, think it's beautiful, without being moved by it. That's why I don't think objectivity really exists. sure, you can argue about so-called criteria, and about masterpieces, etc, but in the end, if that was true, it would be a really sad world, because there would be no room for personnal taste and subjectivity, and we would be robots.

So basically, I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree.
