The Dark Knight Are We Judging This Film Too Soon?

Begins was a good movie I just don't see it as a Batman movie. The story played out like a normal vigilante movie compared to Batman.
you didn't see it as a batman movie despite being beaten over the head with batty bat bat bats and iconic moments from the comics?

man what a lost cause

I love people who try and tell me I'm missing something like they are all knowing. He didn't train very long in martial arts or many of them, he didn't invent anything besides one batarang, his suit was a military suit, his car was a military car, he never decided to fight crime but instead got thrown in jail for being a criminal, he almost used a gun, and lets not forget the fact that there are cape clips. Besides the CGI bats that story could have been told about anyone, it didn't have a Batman feel to it for me. Next time you want to feel sorry for someone feel sorry for all the fans that expected something different and better because I'm not alone.

ha ha you said it

I also love how someone who stays true to the what the character is is somehow seen as a lost cause while WB decided to let the franchise be altered yet again. Begins may have been closer to the source material but it was still flawed. The character himself was just a vigilante not Batman. It's my opinion, not only am I allowed to have it but it's closer to what should have been done than many people want to realize.

This thread is entirely unnecessary, because it has all been said in every other thread, ever.

Only a very few people are "judging" the film at all, at this stage. Most of us are just commenting on news and media as it appears before us. Some of us feel positively about some things, and negatively about others. This is what a dicussion board is for.

The few posters who have made a judgement of the film tend to be those who claim it to be "awesome" based on a few photographs, and then accuse those who are unconvinced of "judging" it all too soon.

Of course, in saying this you ignore the fact that I also mentioned the people on the positive side of the fence. This isn't a thread designed to single out those engaging in negativity.

And I don't feel the thread is "unnecessary". Its aim was to try and get some interesting discussion going on the nature of hype and marketing, and the impact that all this early exposure is having on the anticipation for "The Dark Knight". And some tangents aside, we've got that.

We wouldn't be fanboys if we didn't judge things too soon...

From the marketing--"Too much, too soon" thread
To the Joker--"He applies makeup on"
To Harvey--"Aaron Eckhart should dye his hair"
To Rachel--"Ugh...Maggie Gyllenhall?"
To the Batpod--"Ew..."
To the new suit--"He looks like Robocop!"

:o

Its our lot in life for most of us to pick apart CBM before and ESPECIALLY after their release. Sad, but true.

Not me though...I (for the most part) hold judgement til the movie. Those are just examples of what i've seen on the boards.

Based on those statments, all of which I've seen, said, and agree with, is it not a simple leap to make a judgment on the movie? If you like or dislike what you've seen you could easily expect things to become better or worse.

So all those people proclaiming that Nolan has ruined the franchise, Ledger won't be a patch on Nicholson, and won't be seeing the movie based on what has been released so far, are not judging it?

No, which is why I said "tend to be" rather than "are". For all their verbosity, the more zealous detractors are few. The fanatics are legion!

Subtle use of words, regwec. Your post is certainly geared towards being more critical of TDKs supporters than its detractors. I would also state that there a few fanatics at either end of the spectrum, with most people optimistic. I wouls think my own views on the stylistic issues would be similar to the majority view - impressed with the suit, intrigued by the Batpod, worried but hopeful about Joker's look. As for the plot/character issues, what little is out there so far seems great so far. Or am I wrong?

In terms of character, I found the verisimilitude of the film to be good. It was the action and the outfit that left me cold.

I agree with you. The film was a good film, the parts that I felt were missing didn't destroy the film it just left me wanting something different. I could have easily lived with the film if I knew TDK would take a step in the direction I was hoping for but I'm pretty sure it's not going to do that. The action in Begins in my opinion was horrible and the suit was pointless as well. Again, the suit would be fine if it progressed to something more Batman like (muscular, grey and black, human looking, something that resembles the comics, etc.) but it's not going to. Maybe if there is third film the action and the suit will be what we were expecting.
