Hi everyone.

Time to make a confession...

Oh, not the confession thread.
But I'll say it anyway.

50 minutes into Terminator Genisys, and it's fun so far.
I think I enjoy some bad movies too much.

I was just here yesterday at the X-Men section, though I haven't been online everyday like I used to like 2 months ago.

No shame in that. I thought the worldbuilding in the Mario movie was fun, too.

Late on this, but I guess what made that old Charlie Charlie game work was something to do with physics and how you position the pencils?

Thanks for the anecdote. Interesting that for some places back then it was a build up, and shows how important and influential word of mouth was.
Up until that time, that was the way that Hollywood operated. Movies got released first in the big city markets (where they had the best chance of large box office) and then slowly filtered across the rest of the country. I had been living in Orlando Florida for several years, and it was on the first release schedule. It was interesting, when I moved back to Kentucky, after about 6 months or so I saw movies opening here that had been released in Orlando before I left.
Was the coverage in fan publications very deep?
At that time, there was basically only one major fan magazine...STARLOG....and it was their relatively small notes mentioning the upcoming Sci Fi swashbuckler space adventure that got my attention. The magazine CINEMAFANTASTIQUE had done a story or two on it....but I didn't even know of it's existence until a couple of years later through mail orders. Another genre publication at the times was MEDIASCENE published by comic book artist and historian Jim Steranko. It was produced like a newspaper, but on heavier stock of paper, and covered movies, comic books, and novels. They had mentioned it slightly. You have to remember....at that time, STAR WARS was completely unknown and had almost no promotion. Also, sci fi was greatly looked down on and considered the stuff of children. After it became a hit....then there were dozens of cheap magazines produced with STAR WARS pics on the covers and some stories about it in them.
Was Lucas savvy in making sure that the target audience had an idea about what the film would be about and like?
I didn't see much evidence at the time of it, but I was living in the "flyover" area of the country. There may have been some stuff in the big cities....but at that time sci fi convention were almost non existent. Around me, there was only the TV promos when it was preparing for release in our area.
For yourself, what were you expecting it to be? Did you think modernized (for the time) Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon, or were you expecting something like the Dune Novels brought to life?
From what I had seen and read....it looked like a better filmed Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers adventure.
Did your pre-existing ideas match up at all with the final product?
Not totally....STARLOG had published several of the Ralph McQuarrie pre production paintings (where it showed the Storm Troopers carrying shields and light sabers) and some pre production sketches where Luke wore a head band like from old Buck Rogers comics and Chewbacca was not the friendly looking guy we all now know.
Were you personally excited or did you feel the need to simply support a big budget sci fi/fantasy film so that Hollywood would make more?
I've been a sci fi fan since I was a kid....I had always tried to see anything sci fi related. And being a movie fan, hearing that Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness were in it was a big plus.

I was talking about community lounge.
Don't think I saw you post in one of these threads before today.

The world in that movie is pretty good.

I was supposed to wear either a red, white or green sure for company pictures today. I have on one of my Avengers shirts. I do not think about work on the weekends and my memory isn't the greatest

I thought green shirts were supposedly bad for photos, no?

I'm leaving to see Crimson Peak in a few minutes. I hope it's good. :)

Krispy Kreme donuts are a tad too sweet, which is why I prefer Dunkin Donuts.

And Sawyer can pout & throw temper tantrums all he wants. :o
