Arrow Arrow is basically Batman

Was Count Vertigo a Heath Ledger wannabe...or just a Joker wannabe? Because I didn't see any of Heath Ledger in his character, just the Joker. And, I thought their approach to Count Vertigo was their attempt at making things a little bit lighter, slightly more playful, by having a villain who cracked some decent jokes.

And adding the Mirakuru, and just how Ollie gets thrown around like a ragdoll, I think they've gotten away from the Nolan-esque approach. Season Two, moreso than the first season, does feel like it's got a healthy dose of comic book lovin' injected into it. I think at times, there's been nods to Nolan's Batman...but I take those nods as a tip of the cap in terms of how they're approaching Green Arrow. I can certainly respect the desire to pay some form of tribute to the inspiration a writer/artist/etc. may be taking from another work of fiction.

And in truth, more often than not comic book characters fit into a type of mold that can be identified with the other big names. Being a Billionaire playboy, who has no powers whatsoever...you will fit into the Batman archetype. I don't think there's anything wrong with that whatsoever, because everyone takes inspiration and "borrows" from others as well.

Batman is essentially Zorro, so you know...it's all good.

100% agreed.

Not only is Batman essentially Zorro, he's ironically Robin Hood too. In a way, Green Arrow took Batman's roots and just used them more literally.

Don't forget The Shadow too. Batman is a combination of Zorro, Robin Hood, The Shadow, and Sherlock Holmes.

Pretty much all of these old characters - throw in Tarzan and The Lone Ranger too, ALL contributed to MOST of our superheroes. We might as well make this interesting and throw Shakespeare into the mix (Batman AND Green Arrow are both Hamlet).

Just keep going with it...

Bruce Banner / The Hulk = Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde
Harvey Dent / Two-Face = Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Iron Man = Frankenstein
RoboCop = Frankenstein
Captain America = Frankenstein
The Thing = Frankenstein
Thor = .... Thor
Blade = Van Helsing

I think DC has a bad habit with alot of it's programming saying well Batman was a huge success let's try copy some aspects of that for our show. I thought at times when watching Smallville for instance these producers seemed to want to write for Batman/Bruce Wayne more then Clark Kent at times

I also remember once reading a story how they wanted to do a Captain Marvel movie and it seemed like the higher ups thought it would be a great idea to give Billy Batson a dark past(ie it worked for batman so it must be the way to go)

Well Billy Batson is a orphan so it wouldnt be super far fetched.

Yeah but Captain Marvel/Billy Batson is supposed to be a kid who is idealistic, hell he makes Superman look like a bad boy in comparison.

I think the biggest reason why is because Arrow's source material is incredibly weak. It's not like in Smallville where you have an insane amount of incredible stories and characters to pull from. Ollie's rogues gallery alone is pathetic enough.

I think the Batman nods work incredibly well, as Batman nods in Green Arrow mythos almost always have. After establishing the show on such a solid foundation they have something really great to build off of in season 2, and can take it further in season 1. If they had not started out so grounded in Season 1, the show wouldn't be as solid as it is now.

Couldn't you have it both ways? A movie about a kid who's been put through constant hell throughout his life, somebody who has scars that will last his whole life, but rather than use those scars to fuel his hatred as a young Bruce Wayne did, he comes to the realization that life is precious and not something to take for granted. He could have seen the world at its lowest point, but also at its highest.
