Wow.... I've been buying Spidey comics since 1975, and monthly off the rack since 1978.

I must be an expert on Spider-Man... :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

NOT!!! :oldrazz:

LOL, count me in on that, too...I've collected several hundred old isshes of Spidey (except for the 60s stuff) so add me to the 'expert' list!!! :woot:

I EVEN HAVE THE SILVER FOIL COVER OF THE CLONE SAGA!!

Who dat, who dat...

The Bottom line is that we're clearly not getting any kind of redemption for Spider-man.
This thread was about Marvel's mistreatment and abuse of SM lately. Some held out hope that somehoe Spidey would be redeemed by kicking some serious ass.
I seriously doubted that.
And Now that has been confirmed.
Spidey is still the weak, low level, needs to be rescued by people far less powerfull, chump they made him out to be.
my question is do you get our frustration now?

He outsmarted Iron Man and kicked his ass

Man, I can't believe you guys are arguing back and forth for pages about whether or not Spidey was cowardly in the fight with Iron Man.

Let's look at it this way.

Iron Man is a powerful foe. Iron Man is many times stronger than Spidey. Iron Man can fly. Iron Man can fire repulser rays. Iron Man can do all sorts of ****. In short - Spidey might as well have been fighting Thor.

Spidey uses his smarts in a fight - and that's exactly what he did here. He outsmarted Iron Man, he blindsided Iron Man, and kicked his ass. Spidey defeated a foe who by all logic should completely outmatch Spidey.

Let's look at it this way. Say you're me, a guy of 6'0 with little fighting skill. Say you end up in a fight with an 8'0 guy who knows how to throw a punch and weights 300 pound of pure muscle. Do you - a) Put up your fists and fight him head on. Or b) use every tactic at your disposal, including crabbing chairs or bottles or whatever.

Spidey has used these kinds of tactics before. Outsmarting his enemies, webbing them in the face, etc. He's fighting for his life - it's all fair. He isn't ****ing Muhamad Ali fighting by certain rules.

And he ran away because - SHIELD agents, and possibly other pro-reg heroes would have been on their way.

What a pathetic thing to argue about :whatever:

HoratioRome's Amazing Spider-Man #536...

Spidey senses Iron Man flying behind him, turns around and punches him in the face, completely shattering Iron Man's armor. Stark lays there, his armor in tiny pieces.

Iron Man: OW!!! I thought you'd just web me in the face and hit me a good couple of blows!!

Spidey: Pfft! I have never, ever resorted to using such cowardly tactics against opponents that are clearly many times more powerful than I am!!

Then he breaks Stark's neck.

Spidey: Pfft! Owned!

...I don't know how to react to that:confused:

You can be the token "non-expert" in the Spidey expert club, so we can poke innocent fun at you and make you get coffee for the rest of us. :word:

If Spider-Man would have just went anti-registration immediately there wouldn't really have been much of a story there.

If Woody had just gone to the police...

Sorry. Dating myself with obscure Saturday morning cartoon references.

(we all like spider-man- past or present)

there must be an evolution (no, not like the OTHER) in the character- good or bad- for things to move on and develop...to stop the character getting stale and predictable. Let's face it, they've been doing the same Spidey (for the most part) for 40 years...I welcome this change in comic books, it's an evolution.

It's a revolution.

:o :yay: :woot:

Yes, you can. Did you know the entire spidey collection is now on DVD? Go to ebay and search "Spiderman DVD" not sure how much it'll be though.

Or, you could do it the old fashioned way and shell out 500 bucks and order 'em online, or buy a collection. Comic conventions are good places to fill out back issues you can't find at comic stores. Certain back issues can be pricey, though. You'll have to shop and compare. I
d say that's the quick way to do it, find out a schedule of conventions in your area and go for it. :yay:

I spent a helluva lot more than $500 to (almost) finish my ASM collection. I had from around 170ish up to current from buying them off the rack and filling in the issues before that probably set me back $3000 and I've still got around 25 or so issues to go. I'm picky about condition though so that is part of it but I don't think you could get the whole thing even in fair condition for less than $1000. Could be wrong on that though.

Hmm, no doubt prices have gone up. I kinda 'topped off' my collection about 6 years ago, but haven't bought nearly as much Spidey. Mostly I've been getting the ASM, altho I went on a small run of getting SSM too. I generally have most issues in the good to very good grade, so the prices are controllable. At one time I had a lot of 'em in plastic sleeves, but it got to be a hassle for storage (they slipped and slid everywhere) so I took 'em off. I know on Ebay they sell the various grades. The trick is getting as many issues as you like from the same buyer, so you can get a reduced shipping fee. It's a pain in the ass to order from five sellers that way. :wow:

The rarest comic in my collection actually isn't even spidey...it's THOR #200 which is the actual ragnarok issue. Got the sucker for 12 bucks about 10 years ago on a fluke. it's in solid condition. Try finding that now (even then it took over a year to locate). I've seen mint prices on that for over 6 hundred, and that was awhile ago.

Back in 1982, I had a poor conditioned copy of X-Men #2 (yes, Uncanny X-Men #2 from the 60's) and I traded to a guy the same year for a drive home...

:wow: :wow: :wow:

At the time, it was worth 5 bucks, tops... who knew the X-books would go up in value?

I got a NM condition Iron Man #2 from 1967 like that. Person was selling it for dirt cheap and didn't know the value. I asked him "are you sure that's all you want?" Helped complete that full run.

Most of my Spidey back issues are in the F condition category. It's tough on the wallet but if I ever resell them, I should make that money back. I've slowed down considerably in purchases because the ones I have left to get are the insanely expensive ones and none of my local shops have them for anything close to reasonable. (One place has a VG copy of ASM #5 for $600. Too rich for my blood.) I know what you mean about the slipping and sliding when bagged but they are much better protected, (along with boards in each bag,) and if you keep them in comic long boxes, they don't really slip and slide too much.

!!!

When I bought a poor conditioned Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 2001 for $125, I finally completed my set of Amazing Spider-Man's.

I had picked up a VG conditioned copy of ASM #1 in 1990 for $1500.

:yay:

All I'm missing for a complete set of Spidey on-going comics is Amazing Fantasy #15.

I saw a copy of ASM #2 for $60. Would have loved to have bought it but it had no cover. Just couldn't do it.

Good luck. That's a tough one to get. I keep going back and forth with deciding on completing the collection. Most of the issues I need are in the single digits, teens and twenties. Lot of money to get them and I'm not sure if I want to spend all that hoping to recoup it some day when I get bored of looking at stacks of long boxes...
