The Amazing Spider-Man ASM: Things to improve for the sequel

I see it like this, Peter is character and Spidey (with his mask) is a character. How much screen time did Spidey have? 10 minutes? 5?

Masked Spidey actually had about 20 minutes.

(How crazy does it sound when you quantify something like that, 20 minutes of Spider-Man in a 2 hour long Spider-Man movie? )

I'm sure it was less than 20 minutes though. Probably about 10, if not less.

This is just an estimate, I've rounded up/down. But I can tell you it's not 10.

Spidey reveal: 1 minute

Carjacker scene and police chase: 3 minutes

Bridge scene: About 2 minutes

Sewer scene: 3 minutes or so

School fight: 2 minutes

Spidey on the phone: 1 minute

Spidey running away from the police (before he gets tazed): 1 minute

Spidey getting shot-crane scene: About 3 minutes

Final battle (before he gets his mask taken off by the Lizard): 1 minute

Final swing: Just under 2 minutes

I've counted the shots of Spidey that cut in and out of during scenes too, but again, this is just a rough estimate. I'll do a more accurate count once the Bluray releases.

I've gone to You tube and the Carjacker scene which ends with the bridge swing is indeed 3 minutes. Will definately time when Spidey is on screen when I get the Blu ray.

I think a better villain, clearer motivations and a more menacing plan will greatly benefit the sequel. The Lizard just didn't feel as authentic as the rest of the film.

If Electro really is the villain, Webb should do all he can now to make him an awesome, memorable villain! The potential is there, especially now with the origin done.

I would be kind of cool if they skipped the origin of Electro and just establish him as hired muscle of Norman. Have Electro feel resentment for being an enforcer when he has the power to be running the joint.
Have the conflict between the two with Spidey caught in the middle.
Have Norman take the Goblin formula without proper tests as he feels his empire slipping away so wants to level the playing field with Electro.

I think Electro is.. OK... but the RIGHT choice for a villain will be the Goblin.. Goblin+Gwen: Death

Ehhhh, they can hold that off until the third movie. Non-comic fans would be bashing the sequel because it would feature the hero's greatest enemy and the death of the love interest, ala The Dark Knight.

Before the Dark Knight there was also X2... Jean dying... let's not put TDK as an example of the whole "real love dies in the sequel" ... We get it, The Dark Knight is a great film but there were also greater films before

Having said that... I do believe that Gwen should die... I mean the story will be introducing Mary Jane come on I wouldn't want Peter to cheat on Gwen so they should get her off the map

This: I hope. Second movie too soon. Please, Sony/Webb slow this series down. Don't rush this into another crappy trilogy. Spider-Man's entire story cannot be done justice in 6.5 hours of cinema.

Yeah.. I hope the producers AND the writers give this new Spider-Man the second chance that the hero deserves. Ahem... The Dark Knight Rises style
