The Amazing Spider-Man ASM: Things to improve for the sequel

1) Better action. I feel like one of the few who really didn't like the school fight. I found the final battle cool but nothing spectacular, a little underwhelming. The "action" I really, really liked was the short sewer scene, that was really tense and awesome!

2) Have Peter grown up a bit more this time. I love what we got in ASM because that felt so natural and real, but now it's time for Peter to show that he's matured (though he shouldn't be perfect of course). Otherwise we'd lose that natural progression.

3) Show more of Peter creating stuff such as Spider Tracers, maybe improving his suit (against Electro). I didn't like Peter not creating the web himself, so I'd like some kind of scene to show that he's able to do that as well.

4) Have a more deep and interesting villain this time. I don't care if he's another tragic villain or pure evil, just make him have better motives, feel more threatening and be better and cooler overall. I want a memorable villain.

5) Give us some more interesting side characters such as Harry, JJJ, MJ etc.

6) Solve more of the origin and parents puzzle and don't screw it up by making it an Ang Lee origin or something.

7) Save Green Goblin for ASM3 and make more hints towards it. Maybe even show Green Goblin at the end of ASM2.

8) Have the villain not be too connected to Oscorp research. Having three villains in a row to be that would be awful IMO. Mysterio for example should be his own inventor. Same for Shocker, Kraven, Doc Ock etc. I don't even want Electro to be another Oscorp creation, but I can totally see Norman use him.

9) Show Spidey in action a little bit more at day time.

1.) Green Goblin needs to be the villain now. Saving him for 3 isn't necessary and ruins the pacing for Gwens death. Goblin isn't the Joker, he's been dead for over 20 years in the comics before. Spider-Man has plenty of villains to choose from that would be more appropriately related to his parents.

2.) If they make a stupid choice in writing, don't ruin the whole movies editting in pacing trying to make up for it.

3.) Have Harry be Peters path to meeting Norman Osborn. Don't show him plotting or scheming, just show him as a cold calculating business man and develop the Green Goblin through Spider-Mans battles. Reveal who the man in the shadows at the end of AMS was, my guess as off the wall as it sounds is it was either Eddie Brock Sr or Richard Parker.

4.) Take Peter out of high school, if they're doing a trilogy they could easily show Peter starting college in the movie. Maybe spanning his freshman year.

5.) Keep the small scale feel.

6.) Keep it at one villain.

the amazing spider-man got a lot of criticism for being to similar to raimi's spider-man movie so now Webb has a chance to take the first sequel in its own direction with a new villain and give it its own identity... so probably the best idea isn't to use green goblin just so people can say oh again seen it before

sometimes what fans want isn't always whats right for the movie

yeah thats why as much as I'd like too see a new villain the trilogy, pacing wise, would be much better with the Green Goblin. Besides you can use the same characters without making it the same movie. look at the Dark Knight.

Some suggestions -

* Don't kill the villain (Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, Lizard all died in previous movies.)

* No more Sympathetic villains, Give Spider-Man the satisfaction of really defeating the villain, not just barely managing to defeat him.

* Show Peter Parker inventing some more stuff, like Spider-Tracers, Night vision Lenses etc.

* Don't show Gwen getting kidnapped in the final act by the Villain, we have seen that in every Raimi movie.

Uhm... Lizard didn't die

also, Gwen has to be kidnapped for the death of Gwen Stacy, which I think should really be played out in this trilogy

I loved the movie, but here are a few things they should consider:

1. More action. There was plenty of action, but at times, it felt pretty dull and plain.

2. Build up Osborn/The Goblin a little more. I feel like they didnt set him up that much. But I know they have great things planned for him!

3. Spidey during the daytime. I didnt care about the night time only, but it would be great to finally see him in the day time.

4. Show Peter naturally maturing as the movies go on. Learning from mistakes, being responsible, etc.

5. Peter should build more tech (tracers, belt camera, maybe light) and modify the costume. Show him analyzing the OsCorp webbing and making copies along with his own formulas and webbing types.

6. Not all villains need to be connected to Peter or have their origin of power from OsCorp. Electro should be a freak accident else where and Osborn offers him a deal or he could hire Mysterio, etc.

The only villains I can see being from OsCorp is the Goblin, Venom, maybe Vulture, Rhino, Sandman, maybe Hobgoblin (HIGHLY DOUBT IT!)

But I have faith in Marc. The sequels will be fantastic!

Good, so you should have no problem mentioning four major weaknesses that need to be improved?
Alright,I'll focus on the top four:

1.Wrap up whatever plotlines were left from the previous film.Preferably in the first act.(Bring Ben's killer to justice, and hopefully not have him become a "supervillain".Deal with his parents plotline, but I hope to Heaven it has nothing to do with his dad experimenting on him AngHulk style.)

2.Have some genuine humor. The tone needs to lighten up,somewhat.Spidey has plenty of time to brood after Gwen dies.I want a good balence of quips and the sense of exhilaration that it is to be Spidey. When Peter puts on the mask,he gets to let loose. It was touched on in the previous film, now build on it.

3.Build on the supporting cast.Flash was kinda dealt with, but there needs to be more of his supporting cast.Don't be afraid to include JJJ,Mj & Harry this time around.Others like Liz,Robbie or Betty could use a cameo as well.

4.The Villain.Give him a good villain. Not much I can add to that.I say Green Goblin, but we could have him pulling the strings of another for most of the film.Mysterio or Kraven, maybe?

Let's have Spider-Man handle a situation without help from other New Yorkers for a change.

Improve the villain + give him a better master plan
Don't set up plot threads..to then abandon them a third into the movie.
Put a belt on the suit.
Like Anno said, there needs to be a serious life lesson to learn about peter breaking his promise.

Well, I think the broken promise will result in Gwen's death.

1) Villain needs to be chaotic and unpredictable. Give the tragic scientist a rest for a little while, go with Electro. Give him a good motive.

2) Don't have Aunt May or Gwen Stacy as victims/hostages/damsels in distress. Leave Gwen alone until the third film at least.

3) Aunt May needs to know Peter is Spider-Man (I felt the first movie hinted this anyway). It will give an interesting dynamic and greater point of difference from the first series.

4) Don't abandon the truth-about-Peter's-parents storyline. Just because it was trimmed from the final cut doesn't mean it shouldn't continue. Build it up, give it meaning.

5) Introduce Norman and Harry Osborn - but no Goblins yet.

6) Start prepping Flash a bit more for future Venom story.

7) Better action. Slightly bigger scale.

8) No love triangles.

I think that TASM did a really good job on creating the grounds for this new franchise, and it got the origin story over-with. Now we can focus on just having a Spider-Man film. I'm sure the villain (possibly Green Goblin) will have a much bigger role than the Lizard did in TASM, and a lot of tension will be growing between Peter and Gwen about her father's promise, and of course where to take their relationship. Perhaps MJ's introduction can create a love triangle.

Uncle Ben's killer can also come back, and Peter can tie up loose ends from the first film. Maybe it can be a test to his responsibility, whether or not to really take revenge or just bring him to the police.

Aunt May had a decent role in TASM. It wasn't that significant, but she served her purpose in the film.

The sequel needs longer, more heart pounding fight scenes (something close to the level of the train battle from Spider-Man 2). I enjoyed the school and Oscorp tower battles a lot, but the bridge scene was just an "encounter," and the one in the sewer was just Spider-Man trying to escape from Lizard.

So just to sum up:
The sequel needs to improve on action/battle sequences, have a more developed villain with a more significant role in the film, resolve a lot of unresolved issues we were left with at the end of TASM, especially Uncle Ben's killer, why Peter survived the Spider bite, what happened to Dr. Ratha, and tell us MORE but not EVERYTHING about Peter's parents.

I just want them to define the plot they're going to follow and be sure to do it, instead of changing it midway through production.

Your sig has me cracking up, Jick09.

Classic Simpsons is classic.

I also don't think they should just give him a "better" costume. Over the next couple of films, he should make adjustments to it slowly, and maybe by the end of the series, he will get something close to his "classic" suit.

IMO I don't think we'll see the 'classic' Spidey costume. I agree that he'll probably make tweaks to the suit in ASM here and there but not a full makeover.

Number one thing to improve was the villian. I was absolutely loving the movie but if I'm honest with myself I was checked out a little when the Lizard was introduced. What that saying, 'The hero is only as good as his villian'.

General quality of film making. There were some bits where I saw the potential and the genius, but all were spoiled by bad editing and poor choices. There's a montage bit, and he's running around with the camera strapped to his chest, but it gets lost in the muddle of scenes that don't flow.

I would like clarification on what was special about the spider that bit Peter. Watching the movie again, it seems like anyone of those spiders could have given him powers.

I know it's supposed to be a radioactive spider, but this movie made it seem like any idiot could blunder into that room and get powers and especially since the spider didn't seem like it was dosed with radiation or anything.

Also, was it explained what the spider breeding mentioned in the first film was for? Curt Connors says "Then your father bred the spiders and everything changed" or somethinglike that.

If it wasn't explained, I want to know why Richard Parker bred those spiders for.

I noticed the second time around, the bag would re-appear and dissapear on him.

-So, Peter your father created this spiders and discovered the secret for the crossed species....
-What was the porpuse of the spiders?

i think Richard´s research was with the spiders and with them the secret to cure Norman Osborn , so he left and the Spiders seemed useless , but Osborn knew they had to do with Parker´s Algorithm to make the cross-species so he kept them for further study and to make the biocable

Well notice the spider was hit with electricity right before it dropped on Peter.
