Assassin´s Creed III

i've noticed that there is a Signature Edition available for Revalations.

is that a limited time deal?

Correct, but it did need an ending of some kind. Just having Desmond stare at a wall and cut to credits wasn't enough; it wasn't even really an ending. I'm fine with ambiguity regarding Altair, but the thread with Desmond was the worst kind of cliffhanger.

I thought it was a nice and suitable cliff hanger, for which that's the kind of endings we've always received with these AC games. I mean, we've had cliffhangers for AC1, AC2 and Brotherhood and we have rarely been given anything solid as a "clean" and "solid" ending for a game. Now, Revelations may actually be different. With some loose ends being tied up, we may actually get a decent ending.

I loved the cliffhanger ending in retrospect though, because it was a very subversive, Valve type approach to story. There are heaps of clues hidden throughout the game that actually tell you pretty much what is going to happen next, regarding Lucy and Assassins if you manage to access Vidics email and have every convo with Lucy, and most importantly notice her missing finger. I really liked that approach.

So I just finished the first game. It was almost unbearable at first, but once I realized there were only 7 memories to complete and I was already on Memory 2, I didn't to give it a shot in between my replay of Arkham Asylum, and I ended up spending the majority of the day on it, to the point where it's 4am and I just finished it after a few breaks and naps.

My thoughts are like someone mentioned earlier that the game felt more like a pilot or teaser of what was to come. The game didn't really pick up until the sixth memory where I kept struggling to fight off a group of enemies while archer shot at me. But after that, the action really picked up and tons of blood was shed. I have to hand it to the creators because they really stepped it up on all levels for ACII. I thought the last two were repetitive in mission type, but this one was repetitive in structure, which made it feel very easy and not very challenging.

But I started reading up on some things seeing as how I didn't understand what was going on when I first played ACII, so I'm beginning to understand more of the history behind the characters. I'm also curious to see if others were expecting ACII to feature Altair again. I kept wondering when I was going to get his special armor until I read that he created afterward using the Piece of Eden. I really like the story and I think I'm going to go back and play ACII from start just to experience that part of the story with my new insight. But aside from the Uncharted series, I think this is one of my favorite game stories and I can't wait to see what happens in Revelations now that I'm more familiar with Altair and Ezio.

Also, I kept looking for Lucy's missing finger but I couldn't find it. :(
Though after reading about the whole missing finger stuff, which I never knew about before, it wouldn't make sense for her to lose the finger for the same reason as Altair, since Ezio didn't have to lose his either.

Agreed Spidey, AC has easily become my favourite game series, and if they manage to continue releasing a game yearly with the same high level of quality that they have been, I will be a happy, happy gamer. Seriously, if Ubisoft can keep pushing the envelope with annual releases, why do the COD games still get so phoned in?

AC shouldnt be an annual series. Eventually it will burn itself out and the games will feel like rehashes without bringing much new to the table if they go that route. So far there have only been 3 games, 2 of which were great and the first not so much. Unfortunately I think they might have to do another AC next year bc of the momentum they have built. They need to release a AC3 bc they honestly should have after 2. Brotherhood and this upcoming one seem like diversions to the overall saga, but Id like them to get back on track

I'm hoping Revelations will complete Altair and Ezio's stories, and then the 3rd will focus entirely on Desmond as an assassin.

the thing is, I think they should have introduced a third ancestor before going that route with Desmond. I wish they had instead of giving us Revelations

I think they're actually playing it very smart. Think about it, how many interesting, varied Assassin Descendants could Desmond realistically have? If they had stuck with the 'new assassin every game' method, it would have probably already burnt out by now, or have to be so close to modern days it gets harder to feel unique.

Also, I'd say this coming game seems vastly more relevant storywise than Brotherhood, and will develop Desmond as a character about 5 times more than it ever did in AC 2, not to mention the advancements graphically, technologically (with the facial mapping) and with the Multiplayer layout (having it's own story). This game so far looks to be very deep and very integral to the AC mythos.

Also, Havok, you say AC shouldn't be annual, but it already is. 3 games in a row, 3 years and it's been revealed they're already working on AC 3, most likely due out next year.

You just reiterated what I was commenting on. It is an annual series, but I dont feel it should be for the reasons I listed

Thats why I said a third before going to Desmond. It doesnt have to be a new character every single time. IDA with the notion that having a new assasin would burn the series out. It would be unique and different by nature of having a different protagonist/setting. I loved Brotherhood, dont get me wrong. I dont feel they necesarily had to go back there and revisit Ezio and that time period. Definetly dont think they need to go back and do it a third time

Well I don't feel it's burnt out yet. Time will tell I suppose.

You might feel different if and when we get 8 games in a row, released back to back annually like the COD series you mentioned earlier. That felt great for the first 4 games and then the novelty started to wear off due to the pressure to crank out more and more

I'm hoping Revelations will complete Altair and Ezio's stories, and then the 3rd will focus entirely on Desmond as an assassin.

That's kind of my hopes, too. I'll probably end up getting Revelations and all, but if we get another detour with yet another ancestor with the official ACIII, I think I'll just drop out of the series. I don't think we will or anything, considering the whole 2012 plotline, but the wheels have spun enough, and the Desmond storyline has whats kept my interested in the story of the games from the beginning. Time to **** or get off the pot.

I must not have paid much attention to certain details because I just read that the series takes place in 2012, which makes me think if ACIII comes out next year, it could be the last, seeing as how it would bring us to the game's "present". With all these games dealing with stories of the past, it would be a nice lead in to a story focusing on the present set in our present.

I somewhat agree with this. As a gamer, I love getting a new game a year later, especially since I had just gotten a ps3 last november and instantly brought ACB after playing ACII. But at the same time, I was disappointed with ACB in that I brought it on release date at full price (which I rarely do) since I wanted to see what happened next in the story, and I felt cheated by another cliffhanger in what felt like a shorter game.

Also, I felt like it was more of a continuation of ACII, in that it felt more like some big DLC pack as opposed to a brand new game, since it looked and played exactly the same, give or take a few new weapons and locations. I feel Revelations is continuing the trend and that's really what worries me. The quality changed greatly from AC to ACII, but it seems to be stable at this point, and it can get old really fast. But if ACIII is the last and it comes out next year, I think it just might be able to avoid the same fate as something like CoD.

I'm hoping Revelations will complete Altair and Ezio's stories, and then the 3rd will focus entirely on Desmond as an assassin.
I think they've pretty much set that up. I mean, they'd be doing the classic hero trilogy in that story 1 (AC) focuses on the hero learning of his powers, story 2 (ACII, ACB, and ACR) focusing on the hero accepting their destiny with their powers, and story 3 (ACIII) focusing on the hero fulfilling their destiny and saving the world from the ultimate threat. So with Revelations seemingly tying up both Altair and Ezio, I think its more likely that Desmond will be ready to take the fight to the real world than to do it in the animus again, especially considering that he might go crazy real soon if he keeps spending time in it.

I just learned in AC that there are many pieces of Eden, with the Apple being one of them, but I could totally see ACIII be able Desmond finding the rest of the pieces, whether they are still in good form or not.

Just saw this over at the Assassin's creed Facebook page:

Pre-order ACR for the Xbox 360 or the PS3 at GameStop and automatically receive a free upgrade to the Signature Edition.

The Signature Edition of the game includes:
A bonus singleplayer gameplay mission
An exclusive multiplayer character
Weapons capacity upgrades
An animated short film based on the Assassin’s Creed universe
An Assassin’s Creed Revelations original game score soundtrack

I hope Amazon does the same because there's no Signature Edition listed there yet, and if its the same price as the regular edition, I think I'll get this with Gamestop then, even though it might mean having to wait a few more days for delivery.

I'll probably just wait it out like I do now. The only things that sound hugely appealing to me is the single player mission, but I'll go out on a limb there and say it probably won't be a whole lot, and the animated short, but those tends not to be that good and you will probably be able to watch that on YouTube or something later.

Hell yeah i'd do that. Singleplayer misison and all that looks great, but I'd be getting that soundrack immediately anyway. I love Jesper Kyd's work on this series.

So I'm pretty sure ACIII will be an all Desmond game with him becoming a full master assassin. In this "Ezio Trilogy", we've seen him learn how to become an assassin in ACII, then he got some real practice in ACB, and I think in ACR he will learn the secrets that tie up him, Ezio and Altair as he works his way out of the coma. I imagine by the time ACIII comes out, he will use what he learned to defeat the Templars once and for all. I don't think they'll be any need for an Animus at that point, and I don't think we'll be seeing another ancestor.

Yeah, I think he's learnt the skills and combat of Ezio and the creed, philosophy and spiritual importance of being an Assassin from Altair.

People complain alot about the lack of new Assassins, but I really think the way they've done this serves the story much, much better. Having a different time period and assassin each game would end up becoming the Assassins Creed gimmick, you buy the new game for the time piece of History. The way they've structured it, you buy the new game for the story and the characters. Everything that Desmond has seen through his ancestors has had significance and importance to his development as a character in a meaningful way and I think we're going to start seeing that development come to fruition in Revelations, when we finally start discovering about Desmonds background and upbringing. I see the story structure kind of like Lost, where every flashback or piece of history that Desmond witnesses serves a greater purpose, but for every answered question we fall a little deeper into the rabbit hole. I wouldn't be surprised if by AC 3, the events we uncovered in AC 1 become largely insignificant to the grand scheme of things, like the Hatch in Series 1 of Lost was.

Am I the only one who thinks Desmond's story against Abstergo will take a few games? An Assassin's Creed III trilogy?

Well you've got to remember, 3 isn't about Desmond against Abstergo, it's about Desmond stopping a global disaster and Abstergo are more running interference, as Juno says. I can very much see 3 being more about Desmond overcoming this disaster and perhaps a final confrontation with Vidic, but then I can also see that opening up a whole new can of worms, for instance who is Vidic taking orders from? Who is really running the company? What other alien/god artifacts pose a threat, or were the ones that came before only the beginning? Those are the kind of questions I can see being raised that could also need new ancestors memories to be explored.
