Assassin´s Creed III

I think once Desmond's story is done, that Ubisoft will continue the series with new Assassins in new eras. It's too big of a franchise for Ubisoft to stop.

I think that's pretty much a given. They've already milked the series success quite a bit as is. It's good for me, though, because I really only have a lot of interest in Desmond's story and haven't been all too attached to any of the stuff in the past, so it won't bother me to drop out of the series.

I don't know, I think the whole idea of the Assassin's Creed series has been about Desmond. I mean he was mentioned by Minerva way back when Ezio was alive, meaning the entire culmination of everything the series has done ends with him.

I've been spending the past few days reading up on the history of the characters and the stories, and I agree that there is a ton of stuff that they've left open for more stories. I mean there's been games and comic mini-series that focus on Altair's future and other Assassins from other eras, but I think as far as the main console games are concerned, that's all Desmond's story and it should end once he eliminates the threat that he's been warned of.

Just beat ACII - about to watch Ascendance now.
Just did the same. I'm about to go to Brotherhood now.

Now that I have a better sense of the overall story, I got to say, I feel very sorry for Ezio at the end there since he pretty much was a puppet for Desmond, and I kind of feel like they topped the ending of the first one with the whole message of the vault being directed towards Desmond. And I agree again with Wolvie that the big threat in ACIII most likely isn't going to be a face off with Abstergo and Vidic, but rather that happening on the side of a much larger threat coming from somethign that involves what could be the destruction of the entire world. I'm very curious to see how they include that kind of resolution in the third one, seeing as how Revelations will most likely shed a little more light on what exactly is the threat.

Brotherhood was great. Anyone else think ACIII will be strictly Desmond?

Yeah, I hope so. Or, an idea I've mentioned a few times, is with Desmond in a few modern european cities (or anywhere really) and using the bleeding effect to jump back and forth between ancestors to find clues to where the temples in modern times are, to make a cool back and forth in time puzzle effect. That could be cool.

I hope not. The historical setting is what makes the series unique.

Well it does appear as if it has all been gearing toward Desmond in modern times. A good portion of Assassin's Creed III will need to be in the present. But III might not be for a while.

Whatever happens I hope they wrap Desmond's story up soon, at least the whole 2012 portion of his story. I am in favor of a story about Desmond taking entirely in the present day. Just imagine the cool gadgets they have to create just to keep the gameplay similar to what we are use to.

Hang on a second... maybe "Bill Miles" and "William M" are the same person!? William seems to be the current Grand Master of the Assassins - what if he was also Desmond's father. :wow:

Lots and lots and lots of potential stories there, maybe after Desmond they can go back and do some stories with previous assassins.

What if they adopted The Count of Monte Cristo into AC? If you've read the book, it's very much in line with the tone of these games. Lots of Assassination and plotting.

If you only play this series for the historical setting, then you should just prepare to be disappointed. This is a sci-fi series, first and foremost, in the same way that the Matrix was always a sc-fi movie before it was a martial arts or kung fu film.

Regarding Desmonds father, we're finding out more about his family and background in Revelations.

Also, fun fact, but did you guys know that Ezio and Altair aren't actually related? They're both ancestors of Desmond, but on different sides of the family apparently. That makes me more interested to know how Ezio forms a link with Altair in Revelations.

It's funny you mention the Matrix because that's the one film I always use to compare to this series, mainly because of the similarity with how the animus "jacks" Desmond into a different type of world. And I was watching that trilogy a short while ago and noticed some similarities in how the second one ended with Neo trapped in the Matrix after a similar type of bleeding effect where he could control the sentinels outside of the Matrix.

I feel like that could be what they do with Revelations and possibly ACIII, where Desmond looks for a way out of the Black Room and then searches for whatever missing pieces are there concerning the threat that Minerva and Juno spoke of. Of course, Matrix Revolutions ended with Neo dying in the Matrix, and I don't think that that would happen with Desmond since he will most likely do some battle in his own time. Though I wonder if one of the "gods" could make Desmond relive memories in their own type of animus like how the machines jacked Neo back into the Matrix.

I'm not entirely sure I follow. You mean that one is related to Desmond by his mother, and the other by his father right? It feel like it makes perfect sense that way, but I always thought the scene of Altair and Maria in ACII was meant to show the lineage of Altair continuing through that child.

Ezio and Altair have to be related. Mario said that Altair was his great great great grandfather. Add another great and that is his relationship to Ezio.

If they aren't related, then why did Ezio inherit his armor in AC2? I thought the armor was there because Altair was his ancestor.

Read the link I posted, Ubisoft said it themselves.

Did Mario actually say he was an ancestor though? I thought Mario just referred to him as an old, Assassin Master.

There, found the part where mario talks about Altair. He doesn't actually say they're related, just that he was an older Assassin

Oh okay then, I thought he mentioned that Altair was his great great grandfather. It's a pretty big coincidence though.
