Did the Kotaku article say they received an e-mail about the announcement being officially made on Monday, March 5?

There's supposed to be an update, announcing details I'd imagine, on the Assassins Creed website today.

Good to see the wealth of stuff coming in today. Feeling really excited with the possibilities this game has going for it.

If this is true, the new direction is surprisingly interesting.

I have seen some worry that Colonial America will not have enough buildings for parkour or traversing in general. Here are a few illustrations of Boston in 1770's. Lots of potential.

They're still small compared to the cities the series has been before and there are no large landmarks to climb like the Colosseum, San Marco's, or Palazzo Vecchio.

But this setting will be far more interesting than anything prior. Birth of a nation, country in a war for its freedom. Way too many great possibilities for an Assassin. Its also time to learn about Desmonds ancestors that were a little 'closer to home'.

Too bad they'll also probably include all the convoluted sci-fi junk as well.

I think I would have preferred the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror - maybe they'll still end up doing it since it comes after the American one and I doubt this will be the last AC. Ah well.

@Spidey-Bat: You mean the stuff that's a large part of Assassin's Creed? Yeah, there's a likely chance that that'll be in this too.

Is it really that convoluted?

And I think they've done a good job of juggling two different narratives at once, while telling us this rich story of Ezio and Demond's ordeal on the flip side.

I really like the animus, as a plot device to explain away things that gamers would ultimately complain about. The animus serves it's purpose very well, I think.

It explains away Ezio and Altaïr speaking english, the HUD, subtitles...and everything else that gets seen as a negative because they're too "gamey".

Frankly, I find the whole gods/aliens, Adam and Eve, 2012 doomsday thing is pretty convoluted and boring. The best parts of the game are when it's taking place in the historical setting, not dealing with the sci-fi stuff.

They didn't need the animus to explain a HUD or why characters are speaking English. The fact that it's a video game is enough.

Is it The Revolutionary War or the American civil War? Either way, yay for Assassin's Creed 3!

Very excited for this. Will buy AC: Revelations in the Summer to get my hype ready!

I really hope the game is significantly improved/different than previous games. Four games in a row with the largely the same gameplay only with minimal improvements has left me feeling burned out on the series. Here's hoping that Assassin's Creed III is as big an improvement as II was to the first.

Revolutionary War.

I don't mind the sci-fi element, but I agree totally agree that the historical stuff is by far the most interesting thing about these games.
