He can't be portrayed any worst than he was in "on stranger tides". Where he looked about 25 years older than he would have been when he died and all the rest.

I took the AC trailer Blackbeard as playing himself up just for the fact to emphasize how "bad-ass" edward is. I get the vibe that blackbeard will be more of an ally than an antagonist in the game anyways.

Haytham himself explained that in ACIII. I can't remember the gist of it now, or exactly when he monologued about it, but he told a fairly long story during a cutscene about how his father (who we now know as Edward) was an Assassin, but at some point in Haytham's youth, H. was recruited and became enamored of the Templars through the very target he assassinated at Covent Garden at the start of the game.

Hmmm, interesting. I was wondering if at some point Edward joined the templars, then raised Haytham that way yet teaching him in the ways of the Assassins. Interesting. Guess i just dont remember what Haytham said during ACIII.

Yea thats what i think, but honestly, i dont care. If they wanna give us the "hollywood" version of Black Beard im fine with that. Im all about some bad ass evil pirates and if they wanna give us the more historically accurate Black Beard, well then thats bad ass too as he hasnt really been explored that much in pop culture.

Edward Kenway's backstory..
"Edward Kenway grew up poor in Britain and got married at a young age,When class and family issues came between the the couple,He set out to the West Indies to seek fortune and make a name for himself,He served as a privateer for a while,But once the monarchies of England,Spain,France and others signed a series of treaties around 1713,the contracts dried up,After a few years of peace and poverty,Edward and the rest of the now-struggling privateers began working for themselves as pirates, raiding ships and hauling loot through out a ten-year span when pirates ruled the Caribbean"

"Edward Kenway has already appeared in a Assassin's Creed novel called"Forsaken",A story about Haytham's early days as a young boy in London,Long-retired Edward trains Haytham in the ways of combat in the early part of the book, though his pirate Assassin past is veiled in secrecy it talks about his later years"

-Don't expect cartoonish cliches like a Captain Jack Sparrow/Talking parrots and hooks,"If it didn't happen or wasn't prevalent then we're just not going to do it"

-Besides historical sources the developers are using more grounded inspirations like movies"The Mission"/Master and Commander and TV shows like Deadwood",On the gaming side they are hoping to do for the pirate fantasy what Red Dead Redemption did for cowboys

-Black Flag is not solely a pirate game,At the beginning of the story Edward is immersed in swashbuckling lifestyle But he soon comes into contact with Assassins and Templars,"Edward's innate seafaring and combat skills are further honed with Assassin training But he struggles to reconcile his selfish, cavalier pirate attitude with two competing higher ideals"

-Multiplayer will have new characters/new maps and new modes with pirate fantasy to all multiplayer modes

-Ubisoft bills Black Flag as the"first true naval open-world game"

-Black Flag features a massive ocean that connects 50 unique land locations,At any time on Edward's ship(The Jackdaw)he can pull up a spyglass and search for points of interests like an uncharted island,Players will see a list of grayed out items only displaying basicdetsils once you dock at the landmass for the first time,Locations include..Hidden caves/Fishing villages/Jungles/Mayan Ruins/Plantations and large cities.

-Players can sail to any island, get out and explore it with out any loading breaks(except large cities)

-There are new underwater segments such as using a diving bell(A large metal structure that hold air in its cavity as it submerges),Divers can descend into the depths of the ocean, swim out to nab treasure and return for a fresh gasp of air with out returning to the surface

-There are hungry sharks But the true danger on the ocean is the wide array of other ships,Piratically every vessel players see can be attacked,They range from smaller sailboats to lumbering warships,Each with recognizable behavior traits such as"The Charger'which prefers ramming into you at full speed to a strategic cannonball battle

-Boarding ships has received an overhaul, Edward can command the crew to use grapple hooks to pull the two vessels together from any angle,Players can choose any tactic they wish, edward can assault the other crew in straightforward gun/melee battle, jump into the water and sneak up on the rear flank or even climb his mast, hop over to the over, and perform an aerial attack assassination on the enemy captain

-Pistols now have free-aim so you have more control over what your targeting

-You can spend your riches on upgrading The Jackdaw,Offensive/Defensive&Navigation add-ons

-Present Day:Desmond's story is over,Players assumes the role of an Abstergo Entertainment research analyst who's digging into the life of Edward Kenway using an animus,This stuff was teased in Assassin's Creed III

-Ubisoft promises they are working with management to be very aggressive about making the game more polished

-"The game starts with a bang",The pirate theme is thrown into the player's face very early on,It doesn't happen right away But pretty quickly the world opens up,At that point you can do whatever you want,Wherever you want

-For fast-travel all you have to do now is visit a location and you can instantly teleport there whenever you like

Thanks for posting man.

Everything sounds absolutely amazing.

Yay! How sexy! I wonder if I can preorder this now?

I guess so! Here in Canada they've been advertising it on TV for the past couple of weeks, encouraging people to preorder.

Yeah, I've seen some commercials for it too. This game is going to have a huge marketing campaign

Here's the first Gameplay Trailer.

That looks like a crazy amount of fun.

Reminds me of Gears 3 and Judgment in how beautiful the game looks. Lots of blues and greens

Great googa mooga! That looks incredible. Wow, gonna be freaking sick.

There's already a gameplay trailer? No matter how good it looks it's still too early to already have one.

Here's a scary thought to put things in perspective...The next Call of Duty still hasn't even been announced.

Didn't I read further back in this thread, that Ubisoft have been working on AC 4 since before AC 3 came out? Something like that. They've been working on it a lot longer than a lot of us immediately thought anyway, I'm pretty sure.

Yeah that article said they've been working on it since 2011 I think.

Yea that sounds believable. It just so happens they knew the naval aspects from AC3 would be so popular it warranted an entire game based on that. Even before the release of AC3.

Or maybe it's just a coincidence, right?

2.5 years, last I heard. It's a completely separate team from those that worked on ACIII. This isn't the same annual rehash that CoD does.

That's exactly that what happens with CoD. They have two devs working on them so they can be released each year. The fact that they have multiple teams working on them is another sign that it's just being rushed.

It shouldn't be a completely separate team than the one that worked on AC3. Can you not see how that is a very bad thing. How soon before they just start half-assing it?

Orrrrr...maybe...they planned things out a bit better than you gave them credit for?

Maybe the fact that the naval focus of IV was going to come out, no matter what? That the fact that it was generally loved was just the happy result of a well-planned bit of gameplay?

If you call 2.5 years of work on a game "rushed," then you must LOOOOVE Duke Nukem Forever.

EDIT TO REPLY TO YOUR EDIT:

You DO realize that ACIII was ALSO developed by another team, all while AC Brotherhood and Revelations were being developed and released, right? This is nothing new, and frankly it's a brilliant way of having it so that you can develop a sequel for a game in seemingly rapid time, while still giving it the proper time to develop. For all you know, as soon as ACIII came out, V has already been in development. I don't know what you do, but I am a software engineer, and branching out code to have new eyes look at it and tweak it while the production code remains steady is a standard thing.

Dear Ubisoft,

You can take my money as quickly as possible. That gameplay trailer of yours? Yeah. Mind blown. Stoked. Ecstatic. You get the picture.

Forever for the creed,

Frico

CAN'T FLIPPIN WAIT!!!!

I'd be more worried IF it were the same team,The franchise has become a yearly title now But it's great that they have different teams working on each different game with ideas in place for the next one than just one team getting a few months work done for each game!!

They couldn't have known IF the naval stuff in AC III would become popular&a success..But they could have had the concept/idea in place for the franchise in the future!

I don't give a flying f**k if they release 6 AC games a year. If they look as bad ass as Black Flag, im all in.

I'm still not sold on this game. I mean I'll definitely play it, but my excitement and expectations are no where near as high as they were last year for ACIII, or really any other AC game for that matter.

All I know is AC Brotherhood looked like a rushed cash in and I loved that game whereas AC 3 had a long dev cycle and I was fairly disappointed by a lot of it.
