I liked the Den Defense stuff so yes the Desmond sequences were the absolute worse. Unless you are going for trophies/achievements, the best thing is that both can pretty much be completely ignored and never used after they are introduced. I didnt do any of the Desmond stuff after the first one until I was done with the game. I thought the Den Defense ws fun but then got annoying after it kept popping up all the time until someone told me how to avoid it. Im glad the developers didnt force that stuff on us

Oh no I love the Den Defense, very fun addition to the gameplay. Lost count how many times I did it already haha.

I didn't mind either, really. The Den Defence stuff was pretty fun, but I only ran into about 4 or 5 in the whole game. As for the first person stuff, I found some parts really frustrating, but it was a pretty good way to get Desmond's backstory without completely stopping the game.

So far, the Lost Archive things are cooler than the Desmond ones. They play around with the imagery and stuff a bit better. Seeing 16's funeral then jumping down into his grave was cool.

Also, some of these puzzles are freaking hard.

And I've found a few weird little things, like odd symbols hidden on the walls and one wall had scratched binary code and stuff... I really wouldn't be surprised if some of these things are hidden clues about AC 3.

So I picked this up cheapo off steam as i'm not a huge fan of ubisoft or this franchise and decided to check out the multiplayer as from videos that did look interesting. This pops up. Not once, every time. It's outright saying from the get go "you are not getting all the content, we will let you play it for a period of time, then we are taking is away".

No, it isn't saying "hey guys, if you like we have more content". What it's saying is "You aren't getting the full version, you can have it for a while, then we are taking it away from you until you do buy it". It's in the wording bro. That is absolutely jerk like behaviour. And it's giving you this message each and every time you start up (basically spamming) to drive it into your brain. This is to be expected from Ubisoft. Which (along with many other reasons) the games regardless of being good or bad are budget pick ups.

Note as well the bold letters. . TRIAL PERIOD. EXPIRES. FULL VERSION NOW. For a fake sense of urgency. Outragous.

You're just looking for yet another reason to b***h. The game is giving you a trial period to play the DLC maps. Once that trial is up, you'll need to purchase the maps.

I play hundreds of hours and games and the only games I have seen this "trial period" or "full version" mentioned is MMO's, which usually have 30 days. As for straight up multiplayer games, not really. The online multiplayer game I play, Team Fortress 2, has over 50 maps that are updated freely without charge. Likewise with Portal 2 and Left4dead, it's all free because Valve are wonderful in nature. Ubisoft are not. I generally find it difficult for anyone to defend this obviously deliberately dubious seedy attempt to get my own, personal money stash as justifyible. Saying "others do it" or "it has been happening for a while" doesn't really justify it either if that was the case, which, from what I can see, at least from the games I play, isn't.

You know what it reminds me of? You know when your on a webpage and you get the "scan your computer now" fake maliware adverts, thats what this is basically. Ubisoft have now stooped to the level of some Ukrainian scammer.

I know you like to compare everything to the geat free content that TF 2 gets (which, to be fair, makes EVERYTHING look stingy, so it's hardly a balanced comparison) but AC: R is primarily a console game, ported to PC. Paid DLC is a regular standard for all these console games, especially those with an MP component, but Ubisoft are one of the only devs that I've noticed will put up a trial on the Game content marketplace as well as the full paid version... They're effectively giving consumers a clearer choice as to whether to spend money.. Yet that makes them cheap?

Try and look at the games industry beyond your PC tinted glasses. Sure from your POV, where you are used to free content, it seems steep, but from an objective, industry point of view, it's actually quite the opposite.

Eh, alot of pc specific games have DLC (thanks to console bussiness influence). Shogun 2 for example, a game which I personally love, was selling friggin blood effects for £1.99. And alot of games I play, like this, are console ports. Some of which I do buy DLC for. I'm not complaining about the DLC itself, before I purchased it I could clearly see on the steam page, dlc was for sale. Whats rubbing me up the wrong way, is how they are presented it.

In the manner it's presented, is most certantly is.

It's essentially a demo, integrated with the vanilla content, given at launch and then taken away. emphasing, every time you launch the game you do not have the full product. In fact with the wording used, you are simply trialing the product. By "the product" the impression they are attempting to give, isn't the DLC as a seperate entity, it's, the game. With deliberately selected bold lettering to heighten urgency, NOW!

If this was a free weekend, which steam has regularly and optional ,I would have 0 problem with this. What they are doing here, which you are taking as some form of charity or goodwill, is actually far seedier in nature.

I'd hardly call a company that has been able to bring us 4 Assassin's Creeds in a row but yet make them all top top quality and some of the best games of this generation scummy.
