It may be my own lack of understanding of the concept, but I fail to see how this represents a loss of information.

. . . Why on Earth does the woman in the photo look so pleased? Lady, your cat has two faces, so wipe that smile off of yours.

Today the cat turned 12. Its now the longest living "Janus" cat ever documented. The cat was supposed to be put down as a kitten, but she, a nurse at the vet, decided to keep it.

He wasn't kept in a dungeon and tortured as is the common perception.

So, you're just being pedantic, engaging in strawman arguments, and avoiding the elephant in the room. The church aggressively shut him down and tried to bury heliocentricism.

Here's what you said:

I already pointed out before that the idea that Galileo was charged with heresy by the church is A MYTH

Flat out not true. The church formally charged him with heresy, sentenced him to house arrest, and did everything they could to bury his work. You're being stunningly disingenuous.

That quote was from random_havoc in a response to me. I did say imprisoned, which he was in a manner, and I should of been more clear.

Giordano Bruno (Galileo's contemporary, I believe) was burned at the stake by the Church.

Though, technically, this was for pantheistic heresy - not his Copernican cosmology.

omg! :csad: cats mean the world to me. I enter here and this is the first thing I see. I know it's unrelated but... God! (no pun intended)

Moviedorrs when the f**** did I type that quote? Never. I never said he wasn't charged with heresy, nor that the church didn't try to bury his views, just that he wasn't killed, tortured or kept in the dungeon as some would like to pretend. All of this is true.

So I saw in another thread that a Christian pastor in Iran is facing death for refusing to recant his views.

This is precisely why the separation of church and state is so absolutely crucial. By no means am I advocating the banning or destruction of religions. Quite the opposite, that we must maintain the individual right to believe, even if we do not agree or respect with the content. Government power must be prevented from showing preference for any particular religion.

.

Countries should have the right to execute who they want it's not to Americans to get involved in an internal matter. Unless the ask for unbiased assistance that is the only time.

That's the philosophy for foreign planets in Star Trek too.

He didn't say anything about America trying to save his ass.

I know that's just my opinion on the matter. All I did was use his quote to make my own point, not respond to anything he said.

Your point being?

That's my opinion on the story he was referring to that was obviously brought up in the media only to demonize Iran for killing a Christian and get sympathy from Americans. I'm not giving into that notion and standing on the point that countries and peoples should leave each other to govern themselves on internal matters and not worry so much about someone's refusal to be tolerant of other beliefs.

I think organized religion was the worst thing that ever happened to spirituality.

I'm Catholic and I agree with this. Not only does the church use religion as a means of control through fear, but when you hear so many reports of priests molesting kids, you can't even trust a self-proclaimed "man of God" anymore.
