Disney and the Avatar-team announces they're teaming up with The Nature Conservancy to protect 10 species of ocean animals: No one cares

James Cameron comments on superhero-movies: All hell breaks loose

It might say something about the trashy world we're living in now. Or at least about internet-mentality.

This is a superhero forum. Why wouldn’t we be talking about this?

Good news doesn't sell newspapers. That's something that long pre-dates the internet.

Scorsese's comments never bothered me. Cameron's do, and it's got nothing to do with Marvel. I love his movies and he's entitled to his opinion but the guy is incapable of being humble. He's broken the box office record twice, or three times if you count Avatar's rerelease when it slipped past Endgame. He has nothing left to prove and any time he takes digs at other films it just comes across as him being a bully, which isn't out of the realm of believability given his behavior on sets in the past.

For me, the issue is that Cameron homes off as a raging hypocrite. At least Scorsese has spent his career making "arty" films. Cameron? His whole filmography is crowdpleasing popcorn blockbusters. Him complaining about superhero movies is very much "Don't go to those popcorn movies, you should watch *my* popcorn movies instead!" Sure, his movies are *really good* blockbusters generally. . . but so are movies like Avengers. The only difference between him complaining about superheroes and Michael Bay complaining about superheroes, is that James Cameron happens to be a better filmmaker than Michael Bay.

He’s not complaining about superhero films. He’s saying the characters don’t grow and act like they have families that they put above all else.

Now, did he miss this Marvel film and this one and that one… sure. He’s generalizing. But in most of them, the characters act as if they don’t have something to lose once the action starts which is how he feels his film differentiates itself.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter, he’s just one our greatest blockbuster directors talking smack to some big corporate franchises lol Sounds good!

The thing is: he still thinks the first movie was successful, because it was sooooooo good.
It wasn’t. It was something new and everybody wanted to see it back then. Even my parents, who go to the cinema once in 10 years

he really needs to deliver this time, because there are 4 more.
Having breathtaking effects won’t save the movie this time.

You don’t make 2 billion for just breathtaking effects. It obviously touched people emotionally.

Would Cameron complain about Nolan's 3 batman movies? Bruce changes from movie to movie. In the first 20 minutes in Dark Knight Rises he is a very different person from TDK and BB.
Marvel knows what they are doing. Tony Stark couldnt change from IM to Avengers because there would not be Avengers. and after the ending in IM3 Tony would not be in Avengers 2. yet he is the same character like in Avengers 1. Yes Tony changes in Avengers Endgame because they decided that it ends for him. So are we now expecting Cameron to watch IM,IM2,Avengers,IM3,Avengers2,Civil War,Avengers 3 and Avengers 4 to appreciate Tony Star's story?

Of course Cameron and his team decided to say this to get clicks 2 months before the movie comes out. But what the fans are saying is IMO wrong.

I was thinking the same. If he thinks people flocked to see Avatar for mostly its emotional depth I have news for him.

I can’t understand why some people really have to trash talk others works instead of talking about their own works.
These two sentences in such close proximity is pretty funny.

what the ...

i would understand if there were no sequels planned. that way you tell the whole story and you go out on top.Cameron really likes a challenge.:cool:

Looks like I'll be making a quick pre-movie trip to the bathroom during the Nicole Kidman AMC promo. :o

Is he looking at the dead human Quaritch in the mech suit?:up:
