I think the first sequel will do well enough but the rest will be diminishing returns.
I just don't see it. Avatar benefited greatly from being cutting-edge (for its time) with its use of 3D and not having any kind of box office competition for around 3 months. Studios now see January-March as good months to release blockbuster films whereas 10 years ago, it was rare to get tentpole movies there.I certainly wouldn't be surprised if one (or more) of these films hits 3 billion. You know Cameron will bring out some technological breakthrough. I likely won't care if they are anything like the first film, but I wasn't one of the people who contributed to the 2.7 billion it made in theaters
