true, possibly. However, I feel that no matter how well they balance it, it's just going to require too much knowledge from previous films for critics. Like it won't be enough of a standalone film. Even a few of the actors like Ruffalo, Olsen and Bettany have openly said this film is for fans not critics. Hopefully it satisfies both though

60%-70%. Before I’m accused of blasphemy I am just discounting about 10% who hate it even before they see it (too many characters, much CGI, rubbing it on MCU face), 10% who hate superheroes in a movie no matter what, 10% who really have genuine problems with it. Won’t be higher than 70% and how low it gets depends on how many of the critics are on top of the 10% base number.

I would have genuine concerns myself too whether the movie will be coherent enough or have some IMO cheesy plot devices (if it gives me [snap] fingers at the end then I’ll give it a finger and a very personal rotten tomato for example).

I think its less than 10% who hate superheroes in a movie no matter what as many superhero films have got over 90%. Maybe more than that who can't love a superhero film and give it top marks though regardless of quality (especially those who are indifferent and the indifference counts on balance as a fresh review).

I've been avoiding these boards like the plague, because I'm trying to stay as spoiler free as possible. I think the reviews are all going to hinge on how Thanos comes off. The Russos have said the film is made from his perspective, so that would make him the main character of the film. Tomorrow the embargo is lifted, so we'll know soon enough.

I voted 80-89 though I could see it winding up in the upper 70's. I think this will generally be better received than AOU, but the first film will still be regarded as superior by most critics.

Well, I loved the film, but the Russos have stated they watch/read loads of reviews of their films and try to build on the positives and eliminate the critiques. They've specifically mentioned watching the Screen Junkies' "Honest Trailers" to try and improve on their work:

I agree. Return of the King, Harry Potter, Toy Story, the list goes on.. Movies of this scale with tons of characters can work is the heart and story is there.
