Infinity War Avengers: Infinity War SPOILER User Review Thread - Part 2

For those interested in Screen time, here is IMDBs breakdown of the character screen time in A:IW. I don't think their screen time listings are exactly 100% accurate, as other breakdowns for TA & AoU conflict with theirs...but this is the only such breakdown I can find currently (and it does look at least in the right ball park). Also, it looks like it is rounded to nearest 15secs interval:

Thanos <29>
Gamora <19:30>
Tony Stark / Iron Man <18>
Thor <14:30>
Dr. Stephen Strange <11:30>
Peter Quill / Star-Lord <10:15>
Vision <9:45>
Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch <9>
Dr. Bruce Banner / The Hulk <8:45>
Peter Parker / Spider-Man <7:30>
Steve Rogers <6:45>
Rocket <6>
Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow <5>
Drax <4:45>
Mantis <4:45>
Ebony Maw <4>
Proxima Midnight <3:45>
Cull Obsidian <3:45>
Corvus Glaive <3:30>
King T'Challa / Black Panther <3:30>
Groot II <3:15>
Nebula <3:15>
Okoye <3:15>
Loki <3:15>
Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes / War Machine <3>
Eitri <2:45>
Wong <2:45>
Sam Wilson / Falcon <2:15>
James "Bucky" Barnes / White Wolf <2>
Pepper Potts <1:30>
The Stonekeeper <1:30>
Princess Shuri <1>
M'Baku <1>
Secretary Thaddeus Ross <1>
Nick Fury <1>
Maria Hill <:45>
Heimdall <:45>
Taneleer Tivan / The Collector <:45>
Ned Leeds <:15>

Who’s the stone keeper? Crazy to think you probably spent months on a film set just to get 10 minutes of screen time. Not to mention the training if you had an action scene. I know some get paid millions and it’s exposure but that’s still a big disparity.

Thor is slowly becoming my favorite Avenger.

I have a feeling that GOTG 3 will be about the adventure of Thor and who ever the remaining of the Guardians to find the stranded Asgardians.

Thor has been set up perfectly for a story in which he has to find a new home for his people. I could easily see dinklage returning in that story btw but most of all it can lead to Thor coming into contact with beta ray Bill.

Eh... They've teased Warlock and I think he's gonna be showcased there.

I think we have a good shot at a THOR 4 now too with the way he's been received in IW and Hemmsworth seems like he's grokking the character again.

Yeah no way there is no Thor 4. Or Thor is going to start being in everything

I'm referring to Thor floating thru space after Thanos sacked their ship in IW.

Which makes zero sense as an argument coz you are using something that happened during that movie to make sense of something that happened years ago. As I said, its more sensible to take the word of Odin and the Asgardian royal family who will know a thing or two about what happens to people thrown off the bifrost. You are basically arguing with zero facts or sense on this point. I have made it clear why the line works in-universe so I am not gonna engage in this pointless debate now.

It has happened more than you might think. I have read of it happening many times. Here are a few examples -

THE DEADLY TRACKERS - starred Richard Harris and Rod Taylor...who hated each other and would get into drunken fist fights. The producer kept actor William Smith (Conan's dad in CONAN THE BARBARIAN) on after his part was done filming, he was told to keep them apart and stop them from fighting.

McCLINTOCK - Producer John Wayne wanted actor and friend Michael Pate for a small role in the film. Pate turned him down saying the small role wasn't worth the hassle of going on location to the desert. Wayne told him he would make it worthwhile. For the same amount of screentime that originally was going to take a week to film....Wayne paid him to be on set for a month.

Loki surviving by floating in space. Or not. Is immaterial.

Thanos *snapped* his neck. Even if he were somehow capable of surviving space, there's not way he's going to survive a snapped neck.

My two cents...

Wew.

So I rewatched IW yesterday.

-Thanos is one of the best villains I've ever seen, in acting, CGI, power levels and character work. A4 could take him to icon status.
- I still can't believe how the Russos are able to handle both serious, darker moments and the funnier, lighter tone Whedon set in A1 and AoU. They changed their directing style and can handle the cosmic stuff just as well as the more grounded one.
- The character juggling is almost flawless. I love that Thanos is actually the main character of the ensemble and the heroes feel like they all get their moments.
- While AoU had some pacing and editing issues, this movie flies by, even with its somber tone.
- Everyone in the cast does a great job. Brolin, Hemsworth, Saldana, Cumberbatch,Olsen and RDJ are the top ones.
-Thor and Strange are the MVP of the heroes' side and I can't help but love Holland's Spider-Man.
-That cameo was awesome.
- I want a Thor-Rocket-Groot movie.
- The ending still hurts even if we can figure out what will happen in broad strokes.

I think the movie can be seen in two ways: as a Thanos movie, it's a complete story, he achieves what he wanted. As an Avengers movie it's clearly half the story. Both ways work imo. The clear theme of the movie is sacrifice, which can be carried on to A4, but I think the main theme of that movie will be loss. I also have no idea what will happen in A4, which is pretty weird for a Marvel movie.

All in all it's an amazing achievement, a sweeping epic CBM never done before. Bravo Russos, Markus,McFeely, Feige, the cast and everyone involved.

9.5/10

I'm very grateful to whoever was involved in coming up with the idea to do this.

They definitely deserve kudos. I'm not wanting to start a DC/Marvel flamewar--that's not my intention at all, but if you look at the two franchises...there's clearly a difference in the process for building these characters and stories and at least imo, one is functionally much better.

Glad you liked it mate. It feels like a LotR and ESB with its own Darth Vader to me too and there's no greater compliment.

A worthy compliment. I voted a 9 on the poll but IF gets a 9.5 rating from me. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Thor is slowly becoming my favorite Avenger.

The Avengers would be at a great loss without him.

Thanos' line about "no resurrections" felt almost like a wall-break to me.

It's possible to justify it, in various ways, but it was mostly intended to establish the tone for the audience.
That's true and I love it for that.

A worthy compliment. I voted a 9 on the poll but IF gets a 9.5 rating from me. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
Iron Fist? :oldrazz:

Finally got around to writing my review of this:

I’ve said that Age of Ultron was the most comic book like move in the genre, Infinity War makes that look like child’s play. For all intents and purposes, this movie shouldn’t work as well as it does. From start to finish, the movie is balls to the walls action. The pace is unrelenting and it very rarely ever lets up. The movie has a runtime of two hours forty minutes, but it really breezes by. After my second viewing, the middle does feel a little slow, but that’s more due to wanting to get to the insane action pieces that close out the movie. I really have to hand it to the Russos, they’re really good at balancing everyone. The editing of the movie is incredibly tight. They once again deliver on some incredible action sequences that are very well thought out and planned. The fight between the heroes and Thanos on Titan is incredibly different and inventive. It’s everything I could want out of a team of heroes vs singular villain action sequence. Everyone was working together to take him down. I wanted that out of Ultron, Steppenwolf, or Apocalypse who all disappointed in that aspect. I do wish they tried to be a more different with the finale in Wakanda. While it does things differently and I thought each character was used more efficiently, the hordes of pawns vs the Avengers was a little too repetitive of previous films. I did enjoy the smaller action bits of the heroes vs the Black Order, I kind of wish they had stuck with that.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely deserve a lot of credit for their writing. While not the most profound or deep, it does offer something unique. The narrative structure is very different, it isn’t a typical 3 act structure. I’m still not completely sure what it’s actual breakdown would be. This is part one of a two part story, and this is just the first act of that story. It’s the reverse of the two Deathly Hallow films. I wish there was a little more breathing room. As I said the film’s pacing is relentless, there’s a lot going on but not a lot of time to let it sit in. I would’ve liked to get some of the smaller more intimate character moments that Age of Ultron and The Avengers were able to deliver. The few there are aren’t very wide spread with who they are between. Getting back to the film’s odd structure, the movie is also told from Thanos’ perspective he is the protagonist of the main plot. He’s really the only character that goes through a real journey over the course of the film. He’s so well written and Josh Brolin delivers a great performance filled with genuine emotion. As per the rest of the MCU, character interactions are the highlights. Finally getting to see the Guardians and Avengers talk makes for some really good comedy. It reminds me of a comic book event, where everyone just shows up and does there part. Of course not everyone gets their time to shine. All the characters that stay on Earth are kind of an after thought, which was disappointing as most of the actual Avengers were apart of that. Narratively speaking, it makes sense as this is a more cosmic threat, but I would’ve liked to see those characters do more. They could’ve been the breathing room of the film. It was a little weird how much focus the Guardians got. Outside of Drax and Mantis, they play a far larger a role in the narrative than almost all the Avengers save for Thor. I understood Gamora’s focus as she’s a daughter of Thanos, but the others were odd.

Speaking of Thor, he’s continuing that upswing from Ragnarok. Finally at the forefront in an Avenger’s film, he gets the most focus and is pretty much co-lead to Thanos. I’m happy for Thor fans as they’re finally getting to see their character represented the way they want on screen. I did have an issue with how overpowered Thor seemed to be. He was able to almost kill Thanos when the later had all the Infinity Stones, it felt a little bit ridiculous. Reminded me of when Superman showed up in Justice League and practically saved the day himself. The only reason the Avengers didn’t was because of Thor’s trademark disappearing act.(That’s more of a personal nitpick really, I’ve never been a big fan of ridiculously powerful characters)

Now I love that the Avengers lost at almost every turn, it reminded me of Empire Strikes Back where the heroes only got very small victories. Thanos doing the trademark snap is a fantastic moment in direction. Killing the music and relying on the quietness of the surroundings and the actor’s performances was a brilliant choice. The reactions to people turning to ash are heartbreaking, some of the best acting a lot of these actors have shown in these films. Now I know all the snap deaths will be reversed. Everyone who died because of it are exclusively people who will appear in future movies, where as the ones that are still around are at the end of their tenure at Marvel. That’s something I’m looking forward to seeing, as the second half will be far more focused on the main Avengers. Its a story thread I can’t wait to see fully realized. Infinity War really affirms what I love about comic books. It’s the weakest of the three Russo films, but I think it’s arguably the best Avengers film. It’s like watching a season finale of a tv show. The 10 years and 18 movies of buildup really paid off for Marvel for me.

Enjoyment: 10/10 Film: 8/10 Average: 9/10

Agreed. And it's an amazing Thanos movie.

It certainly made him more interesting to me than he has been in the comics, lol.

I absolutely love this version of Thanos. Not even sure how they could have made him much better.

Josh Brolin isn't getting enough recognition for his work as Thanos. He was really, really good.
