Infinity War Avengers: Infinity War SPOILER User Review Thread - Part 2

I really enjoyed the movie, but Marvel needs to tone down all the jokes and interruptions during their battles. These characters are fighting for the fate of the universe and I want to feel that desperation and sense of urgency, not laugh

I also felt this. It took me a bit out of the movie when at the Wakanda battle Cap casually stands still and responds to Groot "I'm Steve Rogers". While all around them those bug alien troops are trying to tear people to shreds. The joke is funny but didn't belong in that scene

yea this is a common problem amongst the MCU movies.

they are generally all good and entertaining movies, imo.
but they overdo the humor where it weakens the sense of dread and urgency in a scene.

i felt black panther got this very right though - it had jokes at the right moments. and the serious moments stayed super serious.

Back from my initial viewing of Infinity War…I am so happy. First, I was very good about avoiding spoilers. Aside from the trailers and a few of the TV spots I managed to stay away from any and all info regarding the outcome. Second, this film was all about the fans and I love that. While I think the film could be viewed on its own as a single entity and still be enjoyable, this film rather marks the highlight of a 10 year journey. I’m not sure who at Marvel decided to take this connected serialized approach to building up these stories and characters but it truly is a success and they should be proud of their achievement.

I’m not much for writing in depth reviews on movies but I was engaged from the opening sequence. Thanos is such a great villain. Thor, Wanda, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, Tony, Gamora, were the best of the bunch imo though honestly aside from Hulk, I was at the very least satisfied with everyone’s involvement. Humor was on point, the action sequences were creative, inventive, and just plain awesome. I loved the character interactions—pretty much just as I wanted or believed the MCU versions of these characters would behave when meeting one another. I think the only thing I missed or wished was apart of the film was to watch Tony and Steve have a reconciliation. But I suppose, we’ll get that moment in Part II. And although several of these heroes have upcoming movies, I still totally bought into the idea that there is much at stake here and their loss was difficult to watch. For me at least, it was believable enough to keep me invested in the experience. I credit the Russos and everyone else involved in making these characters who they are and presenting them.

In short, I couldn’t be happier right now with how this film, the first part of a cap on a culmination of 10 years, has brought everything that’s been built and brought it all together. This film is as close to this generation’s Empire Strikes Back as it can get. A remarkable achievement.

I understand people’s complaints but I’m the type that would make sarcastic jokes in those situations as a way to process.

Loved Inifinity War. So did my buddy. We even did a podcast on it, split between non-spoilers and spoilers.

I named it....

"Oh, Snap!" https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/franchisewars/id1286433288?mt=2#episodeGuid=Buzzsprout-696080

Overall, we've got a movie that should be overloaded with characters and subplots, but the way they juggle the heroes and use Thanos as the defacto protagonist actually does a really good job of keeping everything going. Giving everyone some emotional bond to fray also works really well.

everybody bout to be DEAD and u talking about ben and jerry's ice cream new flavor.

I would not be surprised if Loki isn't technically dead but ends up having to trick the Red Skull into letting Loki take his place so that at least he is hanging on to existence and can trick somebody else in the future. Anything he can do to cling to life.

I don't have your skill, but I thought most of the Marvel films have had just the right amount of humor in them. :)

I'm very grateful to whoever was involved in coming up with the idea to do this.

Yeah, Thanos was amazing and I agree those characters bolded were the strongest here.

Glad you liked it mate. It feels like a LotR and ESB with its own Darth Vader to me too and there's no greater compliment.

Truly is a remarkable achievement and Iceman that is a strong and deserved compliment.

I don’t think Stark really processed the gravity of the situation at that moment. So he was being his normal self as a defense mechanism. You’ll notice when it actually did happen, he didn’t make one joke.

yea i was just poking fun.
i actually thought that "and i swore off dairy..." joke was funny.
and when stark was battling thanos on titan it was deadly serious.
rdj really sold that scene.

i think i had more of a problem when they were battling on wakanda and some of the middle of the fighting humor there.

You mean when Okoye asked why Wanda was in the back all that time while they were fighting, once she saw what Scarlet Witch can do?

While a few jokes annoyed me I think this was one of the better balanced film when it came to humor in the MCU. All the Russo films have been this way in my view.

The humor was great in this. Never felt out of place and more often than not got an audible chuckle out of me and the audience

Agreed. RDJ when directed by the Russo’s is closer to IM1 Stark. He was too hammy in the other movies, especially Ultron.

100% agree. The best outings have been IM1, CW, A1 and IW for me. The IM sequels just took it too far into another direction.

One amusing thing to me is that, by Tony mentoring Peter, they are almost passing the torch in the area of quips, wisecracks, and snappy dialogue.

But Spidey was originally known for that. I even remember some veteran people working in comics who stubbornly insisted that, while RDJ was fantastic, "Iron Man is not Spider-Man."

LoL!

I’d go so far as to say it’s the best balanced film in the canon.

I would also agree that the humor in this was spot on. Just thinking about StarLord changing his voice to match Thors is putting a smile on my face. God I love these characters
