Avengers the Initiative

There has to be a connection, they have the same powers and same arm thingie. And her's is Left while His is Right. and Slott created them both. No way they aren't connected.
Slott has mentioned that he has a plan for characters like Gauntlet and Southpaw. A future version of Southpaw says that Gauntlet taught her to be a hero in She-Hulk #3 (of the most recent volume). Personally, I think their gauntlets are part of a much more powerful full suit of armor that's going to serve as a major story at some point in She-Hulk or The Initiative.

Yeah, the whole idea is she's the kind of person who is utterly UNSUITED for superheroics.

She doesn't even need to be recruited she flies. So what?

But she has to join the army because ITS THE LAW.
Pretty much. Only, I think Cloud 9 is going to be our PoV character and we'll see how her experiences with all the trials and tribulations of being a superhero affect her and force her to grow. If anyone has ever read Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco's Arrowsmith, I'm thinking she'll progress along a similar character arc to Fletch's (only without the enthusiasm Fletch initially had).

Nuh-uh. :o

Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to add: I hope the newbs get real costumes when they graduate. I'm not too keen on the t-shirts-with-fatigues look.

But thats what the cool kids wear nowaday.

I liked this alot, MVP was the one I expected to like the most to be honest but suprisingly my favourite so far is definetly Trauma.. His powers are pretty cool. It's great to see Justice and War Machine again & I definetly prefer Slott's dick Yellow Jacket to the *****-wipped "Oh I hit my wife once" Giant Man we see most of the time.

I liked it so far. I think there's more to Gauntlet then just being a hardass drill sergent. There's some sort of connection between him and Southpaw.

As for Hank Pym. Yeah, he was a bit of a jerk. But then, I always saw Hank as being a bit of a jerk. And at least Hank seemed guilty about some of the jerkish things he's done recently.

ATP has my copy so I can't look it up but...did Trauma just produce illusions or was that Spider for real?

It definetly seemed like he transformed into the Spider, because it went through the panels of him changing into it and stuff. That's definetly how I interpreted it.

Oh and for the Record....Harball kind of reminds me of the Masked Marvel.

Yeah, I forgot that he actually turned into it. Thought it was an illusion. I'll reread it tonight. Thanks guys

His (Trauma's) powers seem cool but I already dislike the character. Also I hope Rage and Stingray and the other already experienced trainees get some screen time breezing through these excercises.

Like honestly their should be a seperate category of training or something. Like starting grades or something.

I have no clue why Stingray is at that Camp and other heroes didn't

I think it's been stated that he wanted to train himself to be better without his costume, which is odd because he's seen wearing his suit (how come he still has his whereas everybody has to wear the camo jeans and shirt?)

One funny thing about all this post-Civil War stuff is that I'm liking it a lot better than Civil War itself. Civil War was an interesting idea, but the execution took too many liberties with too many classic characters and ultimately left me cold.
However, the exploration of how the government will handle and regulate the aftermath has me much more intrigued than Cap and Tony's power struggle ever did. I'd love to see the multi-state "Initiative" concept take off and develop into several comics with heroes operating in new parts of the country or at least an anthology series set in different cities (Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas, Detroit and Honolulu come to mind).

Honestly, I think Peter Gyrich has always been pretty easy to write. He likes making life difficult for superheroes because he doesn't like anyone having power but the military/government.

Thus, it makes perfect sense that he's ectastic about having a bunch of superpowered people in the military/government.

He's also corrupt as Hell but a patriot.

Gyrich is one of those characters thats wonderfully fun to hate. If he ever did anything even remotely relatable or decent I'd probably vomit all over whoever wrote it.

I guess you didn't read the 'Red Zone' arc in Avengers (waaaaay back before Disassembled :yay: ). Gyrich ended up acting like a reasonably decent guy. IIRC, Geoff Johns wrote that.

And overall I liked this issue, although I'm not too keen on Superhero Boot Camp. Yeah, I'm a Cloud 9 fan too. Looking forward to next issue.

I really don't think he's corrupt at all. He certainly is manipulative and untrustworthy, but he seems like a man who, at his core, is dedicated to his job and to protecting his country.

Did it have something to do with the falcon? Or something about Gyrich's father having Alzheimers? Cause I think I did actually read that. The name of the arc sounds familiar at least.

"My father died in my arms and his last words to me were "who the hell are you?""
Man I laughed at Gyrich so hard when I read that.

The incident at the end of the issue really just drives home the point that there's no difference between these government-'regulated' superheroes and the New Warriors except better PR and the resources to cover their messes up.

You know, aside from the fact we haven't seen trained heros in action or anything. *Shrugs.* Oh, right. That IS the difference, they're suppossed to be different WHEN they're trained, not simply when they sign up. How could I be so naive? *slaps forehead.* Oh, I wasn't? I actually expected these things to happen in training so they can be prevented in the future? Oh, well then, carry on.

Come on Corpy. Where's all that brainpower you usually muster?

Armory didn't really have time to grow on me, but I like the fact that Pym has her arm lol. MVP seemed to be a white Patriot. I won't miss him.

Trauma and Cloud 9 are easily my favorites of the bunch.

Apparently being white is a problem?

Cloud 9 I'm loving so far. MVP I wish stuck around a bit more. I'm totally digging War Machine's new look.
