As highlighted in JewishHobbit's post, the status quo of the X-men has changed several times over the last decade. There's really no denying that.
Going from Westchester to San Francisco to Utopia and the recent Schism was hardly superficial. Maybe SF to Utopia on the surface but overall the X-line has changed quite a bit since HoM
So we're going to take Hope from the X-Men because she's going to be too powerful but Franklin Richards is ok cause he's with Reed?
Even I can't justify this.
Like I said he stabbed her to stop her from killing. The PF isnt inherently bad but when you mix it with rage, vengeance and a thirst for blood, thats when theres a sign of trouble. Rachel got the PF in UXM 199 and no one found out til UXM 202, when she acted all crazed and told Rogue she was going to kill the Beyonder. The X-men were alarmed and questioend if she would suffer the same fate as her mother. She stole a portion of their life force while they were sleeping and against Storm's will and proceeded to go to space to kill. Ultimately they were able to talk her down and she seemed in check of the PF and her newfound powers for a few issues. In UXM 207, she went after Selene and Logan tried to talk her down and it didnt work. She told him that "Phoenix makes her own (rules).....and the only way to stop me, Logan, is to kill me" and thats just what he proceeded to try to do bc she was showing signs of getting out of control, similarly to Dark Phoenix. Trying to kill the Beyonder and Selene was just the beginning and there was concern that if she wasnt controlled and contained from the beginning, that she'd eventualy go on a murdering rampage fueled by the PF's power and emotions.

really he hasnt, at least not since Schism. Heck the efforts to gradually stop writing him as dark and shady started back after Second Coming. As for Children's Crusade, I cant say he was wrong. Scarlet Witch DID end up killing tons of mutants with her actions. Crazy or not, people suffered and what she did amounts to genocide. You say he's been spiraling since MC, but he is the way he is bc of SW. M-day, formation of Utopia, X-force, becoming the unofficial mutant ambassador ALL tie back to what she did. People want her dead and for good reason. Considering the position he is in, I dont think he can stand by and not do anything about her. Those ex-mutants want justice and they are looking at him to seek it. I think he was justified in wanting to take her back with the X-men and I think he'd lock her up in the X-Brig while they assess the situation. If someone were to wipe out hundreds of people of a particular race, wouldnt people be calling for death penalty of that person or at least a life sentence? To me, its no different

I definetly see what yopu mean and with the Avengers movie coming out, Im afraid the X-men will be thrown under the bus to prop up the Avengers characters. I hope that isnt the case and that its written a bit more fair without making one side "bad" while the other is good by default
