Comics Back In Black Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Roberto is the one we really shouldn't be losing (although all three are actually doing some of their best work right now, even JMS). But Roberto has really matured from a solid writer to an excellent writer in the last year.

For me, David's the only guy I'll miss....he finally puts his friggin stamp on FNSM and we lose it :(

I couldn't resist at least reading the last issue in the comic shop, just to see if Spidey actually did it (after all the things JMS had done to him I was worried). Nice beatdown, decent issue.

Fisk has had a bad year. In between being utterly defeated by Daredevil (out and inside of prison), Spidey apparently got a few licks in too. Huh.

Perhaps the blood transfusion would have weakened Pete moreso in the past, but let's not forget he was recently "reborn" in The Other storyline and is much stronger these days

Not really. To your first point I mean (I try to ignore The Other whenever possible). Spider-Man's always been naturally that strong, even at half strength. Most recent example I can think of is during Millar's Marvel Knights story when Spidey fought off dozens of SWAT while at half-strength.

Not sure how you figure Fisk was utterly defeated by Daredevil???....it was Fisk's bogus "Murdoch Papers" that got Matt thrown in Rykers in the first place and in the end Matt actually had Fisk freed from Prison??.....the only guy that got the better over Fisk in Daredevil was the FBI agent who reneged on the deal that would have released Fisk earlier.

I'm referring to the Hardcore arc when Matt beat Fisk and took over Hell's Kitchen as Kingpin.

Edit:

Also we might able to assume that this issue takes place sometime after Matt broke out of prison so then again Matt screwed Fisk over again by ditching him in jail.

ahhhhh!!....my bad.....carry on :woot: ...(although in all fairness to me, that was more than a year ago :oldrazz: )

Comic book time. ;)

I could be real picky and say the prologue to DD #95 mentions that Matt was away from Hell's Kitchen for a year...hence his becoming the new Kingpin of Hell's Kitchen would have been more than a year ago....but who wants to be that picky :cwink:

Damn. :cmad:

I've picked up both comics, but so far have only had a chance to read Sensational- the wrap up of the Eddie Brock two parter.

I thought the story was pretty solid, but it could have been perfect if there had been a bit more of a heart to heart between Brock and Peter before Eddie threw himself from the window. That, and if he had actually died. Seeing Eddie in his current and entirley logical state it seems pretty damn illogical that he could ever get back into good enough health to reclaim his former mantle. What would the symbiote want with him now? -He's half dead! Aside from the fatuous future connotations of Brock regaining the symbiote (as confirmed by Joe Q recently) and the missed opportunity for a just send off when he threw himself from the hospital window, this two part arc had a lot of cool stuff going on.

From a narrative point we have seen storys before that dealt w/ Brock's unbalanced persepctive, but never seen this aspect coupled w/ the characters current pityfull state. Eddie cut a sad and poignet figure like some withered ghoul haunting the wards. Even though it is the cancer that has rendered him in this state, it's almost as if because of his constant failings fate had dealt him this hand so as to put him out of his misery. From the perspective of a Venom fan, and considering that many Venom arcs are depth less this made a refreshing change. I liked that Brock did not kill May in the end, just as I expected he would not. The seance w/ May was cool and I thought Peter and May's interaction was pretty creepy and powerfull. From what she was saying it really does not sound like the character will be around for much longer. Maybe they will finally kill May off at the end of the BIB arc. I'm starting to think so. I'd give the 2 part SSM arc 9/10.

Anyway I'm off to read the new ASM.
Unless it's damn hilarious, there are far too many 'lols' in this thread.

Sensational Spider-man Issue#39 I liked. I was dissapointed that Eddie Brock didn't bond with the Symbiote and become Venom again but overall it was a good Issue. I loved how the Symbiote (in His head) was telling Him to do these things. Brock kills that nurse because the Symbiote told Him to do it. Brock even decided not to listen to the Symbiote (in His head) and not kill Aunt May. The cuts on Brocks arms truly show how sick He is. He said that He took Him out or something like that.

Anyway, this really got me excited!

When will Eddie Brock be coming back and will he be re-bonding with the Symbiote anytime soon? Wacker: "It's under advisement."

Asked again about Venom, Wacker said that, given the sheer volume of questions and comments about the character, he and the writers would be having a very interesting dinner tonight

The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock is definitely the best story arc from SSM. When Brock cut himself, I thought for a second that the symbiote will spit out from the cuts and transform into Venom! :D

It was a great story, but the idea of the symbiote rebonding w/ Eddie just makes no sense at all.

crap issue in my mind. Murder with no result, no law involvement? This almost seems like something was left out. I had no sympathy for Eddie's plight at all. And I'm not interested in seeing another 'murderous symbiote syndrome' again.

I really did enjoy the whole Brock storyline from issues 38-39 of SSM. While I am not the biggest Venom fan, it felt nice seeing Eddie used in a story since giving up the symbiote. I really hope Marvel puts the symbiote back on him at a later date.

With that having been said, I really thought ASM 542 was incredible. The scene where Spidey confronts the Kingpin and says he will not kill him, but instead Peter will gave me chills. I would have liked the Spidey/Kingpin fight to have been a bit longer, but it was good seeing Spidey just flawlessly kick Fisk's behind all over the prison.

As cruel as it sounds, at this point and time..I'm kind of hoping they lay Aunt May to rest already.

The woman has been on her death bed(s) since the 70's. It would only be fair to just end it already.

As for the most recent issue, it's strangely appealing to have such an anticlimactic (being so one-sided) conclusion to the confrontation with Kingpin. Who would have guessed? Way to break with expectations.

Just one thing, not to nitpick, but when Peter was making the blood transfusion and all, anyone else think it was somewhat odd to have him saying, on account of his older than dirt aunt maybe finally dying, he had nothing left to lose? Keep in mind that he was saying this to his wife. You know, love of his life, been there through thick and thin, that sort of thing? All of a sudden, she doesn't matter if he self-destructs himself leaving her alone with said dying aunt, no money, and still presumably wanted for aiding and abetting a fugitive? Just seemed a bit off.

Eddie Brock is patient in a hospital, dying of cancer. What are they going to do, haul him in front of a judge and throw him in prison?

We have no idea that the law wasn't involved - we just didn't see it. In reality, they wouldn't go through the motions of charging a terminal cancer patient. They probably would've just added security around his room.

She hasn't been on her death bed since at least the beginning of JMS' run on the title - almost six years.

I think that's probably more of a case of editorial oversight than anything else, honestly.

Cool, Web-Head!

Where'd you get this? I didnt see it anywhere online...

Looks good. Man, The Spidey books have really been on a roll lately. Espacially with Sensational and FNSM.

I sure hope Marvel knows what they're doing, canceling those two books when they're on such a good run...

Oh wow! I can't WAIT to see that! I've been looking forward to those two finally having this conversation ever since the mask came off.
