The Dark Knight Bat Sonar: Love it or Hate it?

The sonar/lenses had a purpose and it was executed. I don't think we will be seeing them again. I didn't mind them one bit though. But I agree that Bale's eyes are much more menacing then lenses.

I love the idea of it, the biggest letdown in the film for me was the execution of it. It was way too sci-fi and it felt like a video game, the way it panned everywhere.

Still love the movie, but it would have been much more effective if it was simpler.

Yeah, it was a little too annoying when they started doing those quick cuts to other floors like a video game. It wasn't horrible but aside from the whole Joker/Batman confrontation I thought that part along with the scenes on the ferries were the weakest of the movie.

I thought it was clever, another ability of a bat that Batman has.

The lenses were great. The constant cuts to sonar vision were a bit annoying, but overall it was pretty cool.

Hm. Never thought of it like that. I agree, though. Batman isn't a f***ing robot. But the lenses were totally awesome.:brucebat:

I for one loved every ounce of Bat Sonar goodness.

the sonar sequence was way too flashy. Didn't like his sonar lenses. Overall I'm 'meh' to it. I liked the idea but not how it was executed.

More or less how I felt. The film could have done without it.

its not as simple as love it or hate it...liked it.

The sonar was well done for what it served. The Joker is fast, quick, and crazy. Batman knew he needed some one to help keep tabs on him, so he could finally catch him and take him down.

And I read some....people....claiming Sonar is.......unrealistic? Though this is not about realism in Nolan's film. Sonar does exist, and the military uses goggles and such things that utilize it......I have to laugh at some people thinking sonar is....sci-fi or something. It exists, and has for some time.

I wish we could get one movie where Bats has them all the time, it make his suit look cool and that's saying a lot considering how crappy the new suit was.

It was a great idea but it came off as a video game with Morgan Freeman playing Morgan Freeman narrating. Bad guys to your left, boom, now on the next floor, bang, Joker is on the 3rd floor, pow. When all Batman had to do was tell Gordon that the hostages were in the clown masks or even tell a soldier so he can tell everyone...instead he beat up the good guys.

Just thought about this: If the rumored TDK video game does come out EVER, will we probably get a "sonar level"?

*edit* Oh, and I loved the sonar. Batman was the most badass in the movie during that scene.

A big HATE it from me. It was super lame and was more like a friggin video game then a movie.

And p.s. Batman with white lenses looks like ass.

like all gadgets in nolan's universe, i liked it because it was explained and not just there or given to us just because.

This should be a poll. Loved it

This was the weakest plot element in the film.

I would've rather it didn't exist, and Batman relied on actual detective work to find The Joker's location.

I mean, if nothing else, The Joker's a narcissist. He'd want to watch his own show, so he'd have to be in a building overseeing the ferries' routes.

it would have been just fine if they didnt do any of the stupid 3d rotations
more less just like heat vision in splinter cell but a little better
and fox sending him different feeds and telling him what to do
and the cut to sonarview fighting scenes was a weak link in the staging and cinematography
it all comes down to the 3dviews and flying threw walls like a video game view

seeing through walls to a degree would have been just fine
they just overdid it

i wasnt a fan of the bat sonar. or at least, not how it was used in the end squence. the smaller scale at which it was used in hong kong worked fine. but how it was used in the end was kinda....cheap? that, and those lenses looked TERRIBLE.

the sonar eyes are fine but it's way too flashy and complicated from batman POV. they should try to make it simple and i cant even see a decent shot of it as the camera angle moves way tooo fast. the whole sequence looks "messy and flashy"
hmm, on second thought, maybe i should go and see it again for a clearer shot.

Agreed.

It was flashy enough to mess up my suspension of disbelief.

It was a great idea: purposeful, logical, thematically strong and easily explained, nothing like the convulated device in BB (chemicals in the sewer/must be vaporised/with a microwave emitter/put it on the train/burst the pipes/central hub/it's gonna blow/it's gonna blow :whatever:)

the only letdown was the visual execution of the device in terms of batman himself. the lenses looked ridiculous. it was kind of a cheesy moment. they should have been smaller and less Power Ranger lookin

The Bat-Vice-Grippy thing, i thought that was dumb too. He could have just grabbed the gun and thrown it away, he didn't need to show off by bending the damn thing like he's Terminator or something. And I'm sure movie-magic would have enabled him to hold on to a moving van by himself. He's pretty usueless if he can't simply disable guys without his little bat-vice-claw. It was purely there to show off an obligatory gadget. And that equals dumb.

The point of the lenses were to allow batman full view of the environment. Night vision is one thing, but knowing the guy behind the wall is even better. I loved the whole sequence. I dont see why people have a problem with it. Its not like Batman is going to use it all the time(because he cant with the system destroyed)

I liked the technology. I did not like the lenses, but it looked cool and that is fine for me.

The sonar was great, it served a purpose, and it was an excuse to give Batman the white eyes finall. Which I always wanted to see and it looked cool and was happy to see it, he doesn't have to wear them all the time and I don't think he will, and it does look better without them but I wish they had one scene with him in the shadows just standing for a moment with his eyes shining like in the comics and TAS, just that great scary image of him where you don't see much but an out line and his eyes.

It was nice, I think they knew fans wanted to see the white eyes and gave it to them. There's nothing wrong with the sonar and lenses, very cool, this movie is flawless, and anyone who complains is no real fan and just wants to be a nit picking jerk. you should be thankful to have this instead of Batman forever and B&R.
