Honestly the best way to 'protest' these guys is with their own tactics, but peacefully. I didn't search through all the pages, but in case it hasn't already been offered:
It's something a group of my friends and I decided on a few years ago in case these guys ever came up to our neck of the woods, which they thankfully never have. It's call 'Project Godlove', although we never made a website or anything for it, but the idea is to 'protest' the WBC by ignoring them. Since they're so public about which funeral they're going to they're not hard to find.
Basically write up large signs and banners, but that say 'God Loves Everyone', 'Love Thy Neighbour', messages of peace and happiness and hope, maybe farewells to whoever's funeral it was, and pictures of happy faces and hearts and rainbows. To the funeral and find the WBC and then stand in front of them with the signs and stuff. Bring some Boomboxes with ambient noise to drown out any chanting/slurs they may say. And just basically block them. The whole point is to ignore them completely, no matter what they say. If they try to push forward, stand firm/block them. Act entirely like they're not there. These people thrive on negativity and spite, take it away from them and they'll get frustrated.
You'll be breaking no laws, violating no rights. They'll have nothing on you. And if they do anything to try and get you out of the way, you can sue them for harassment. If your group's large enough, you'll get all of the attention, probably praised, and they'll be left with humiliation.
No shouting, no insulting, no threats. Just act as if they're not there, they'll be powerless and you'll win.
However, since the funeral's probably going to be in Australia, they won't be able to protest it anyway. No one's gonna let those freaks into the country.
