Batman: Arkham Knight

Remember this trailer was animated by Blur. They take creative liberties when it comes to the making of these trailers. Mainly when it comes to Batman/Bruce Wayne actor/character model. They have had different ones for all four games.

When it come to the in game model Rocksteady and WB Montreal have been pretty consistent when it comes to their iteration of Wayne.

yeah I said that twice already happy to see some beside me is saying that

It's interesting how they already explained why Gotham could look empty. Scarecrow pretty much told them to get out. Not say it will be completely empty... But I'd imagine the risk of running over some Gothamite will be extremely small. :p

Exactly. This was never a real problem unless they were intentionally trying to make it like GTA, which they never were.

What I already love:

Scarecrow as a main - this not only really digs into Batman's fear theme, but prevalent fear gas allows for a TON of great gameplay things, from fear-gas induced other worlds to crowds of panicked citizens that you have to rescue without getting killed by as they attack you. Brilliant, brilliant move.

Batmobile as a gadget. What they seem to have done with the Batmobile is make it a tool and an extension of the platforming. It's not two games where you have the grapneling and then you get in the batmobile and it's a driving game, no no, you jump the Batmobile and glide out of it, using it as a projectile, then call it back to you and hop back in to pursue Two Face. Totally awesome.

Harley Quinn - It's nice to see her away from Joker, it's also nice to see her kicking massive amounts of butt.

On Future Games

I think each of the Justice Leaguers are so diverse and deep, it would be a shame to try and develop the 10-20 different gameplay mechanics needed just to put the leaguers in action. It'd be much wiser to start with a Superman game and then add in other Leaguers to the sequel, a bit like the movies are doing.

hopefully since its an overall bigger world now we might be able to play as the Bat-Family now and they might be in the overall story instead of just being DLC skins/challenge maps or whatever. Sort of like what they did with Catwoman in AC. I really wonder if Hamill/ let alone The Joker will be back. I assume so I mean I hate to say it but at least IMHO you can't have Batman w/o Joker I know people disliked that aspect that he ended up being the main villain so far all the Arkham games.

yeah I did mention that I would like to see Night wing and others for this. but if they some how skip it I'll under stand but in the very least have Batman say something like give instructions over the radio of his, to coordinate to them on what he wants done for sections of the city he won't be able to reach if say people that are trying escape by other route's out of the city and their being blocked by the each of the villains Hench men . That would be at least cool via a cut scene's if not playable. ( optional co-op wise) and it would be cool to have the huntress in a game or her team the birds of prey which cat woman was apart of .

They have worked for batman or the Outsiders (or Night wings version of them) who have worked for him since he created them

:hubba EPIC!

Some details from neogaf.

  • Last Batman game for Rocksteady, will work on something totally new next.
  • There will be a brand new villain, something made by Rocksteady that they say will be the ultimate test for Batman (That's the Arkham Knight)
  • Batmobile can be called at any moment with a button.
  • The city streets are much wider to allow for the batmobile. You will rocket jump off ramps and do all sorts of cool maneuvers.
  • You can eject jump out of the batmobile right into a super fast glide straight through the glass of a building to knock out enemies. They said glass breaking will be a big new thing.
  • New moves include being able to use all your gadgets during flight. You now have a counter throw where you counter a guy and throw him into another guy. A new quick ground takedown. A quick backflip where you then throw a batarang in an enemies face.
  • For the predator sections you can now chain takedowns of up to four enemies. For instance pop out of a grate and take one guy, jump to the next and so on. You can now enter grates from a distance, he will automatically do a jump or roll to enter them.
  • Riddler challenges seem to be car based. The first one has you enter a sort of Riddler race track where you have to activate walls and ramps, when you activate one another closes so as you drive you have to be constantly turning on and off these ramps as you navigate the course.
  • Batmobile fires missles and stun guns. It destroys anything it touches so if you bump into cars the cars go flying. It's basically unstoppable.
  • Story is that after Joker's death all the criminals decided to work together and their plan comes together this night where they plan to kill batman. The article talks mostly about Scarecrow, he scattered bombs throughout Gotham.
  • Oracle will play a larger role, you get to visit her base and talk to her, tons of batman easter eggs included.
  • Kevin Conroy is Batman, all the previous voice actors are back.
  • Gotham City is 5 times bigger than AC. Split into 3 areas. NO LOAD TIMES at all, entering buildings is seemless.
  • They spend a bunch of time talking about how detailed the models are, one character has more polygons than the environment of Asylum.
  • Batman will start off with the old batsuit and upgrade at some point in the game.
  • The Arkham Knight looks like Batman without a cape, you can't really see him since he is in shadows, but you can see the outline of the ears which are shorter than Batman's and his eyes glow blue. He has some pretty big gadgets around his belt and legs.
  • - All quickfire gadgets can now be used during flight.
    - Combat tweaks (note: Not enough time to go over these in detail. for example, you can throw by tilting left towards the opponent and hitting counter)
    - did I mention the screenshots are gorgeous?
    - Arkham Knight isn't just the name of the game.. it's also the name of the [new] villain.
    - Fear Takedowns. ie, burst out of grate, action slows down allowing you to target another goon for another attack and so on. Can be used on groups up to 3 as long as they're close enough together and no one has already spotted Batman.
    - They seem to try to tackle the old school Arkham issue of "open door - black screen loading"
    - The game looks gorgeous. Huge.
-"This is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer."
    - You can launch into a fast glide from the Batmobile just like the trailer.
EDIT: More from neogaf

-No more pre-rendered cinematics everything is done in engine
-The larger riots can have up to 50 people flipping cars and looting stores.

Characters
-Things such as Gordon's trench coat and Batman's cape now have Apex cloth physics. They react realistically to changes in wind and movement
-When it rains rains bead of water run down Batman's suit tracing every groove
-The wrinkles on Gordon's face crinkle as he talks

The City
-The city is as detailed as ever with realistic moving clouds with the moon shining through
-Halloween characters and balloons litter the street adding a creepy vibe
-Neon signs of the various shops shine brightly around the city
-The skyline has helicopters and blimps flying through it
-Steam puffs out of the sewers in a realistic way

  • You can now use the linear launcher on anything to create ziplines. This is done in mid flight so you can quickly land where you want.
  • All enemies now have the ability to grapple Batman, not just big guys.
  • Roads wont have many vehicles, just some thug cars and cop cruisers
  • There can be enemy riots, up to 50 enemies on screen at once.
  • More Riddler type challenges than just racing.
Some story spoilers from the demo GI saw.

  • Starts off with the evacuation of Gotham cause Scarecrow has put fear toxin bombs all over
  • Each villain is doing their own mission to cause chaos and spread Batman thin.
  • Two-Face and Pengiun are shooting cops in the streets.
  • Batman sees the batsignal and meets Gordon at the roof, fills him in on the scarecrow issue and Gordon gets a call from Barbara saying she is out of the city.
  • Batman goes off to find scarecrow thugs and contacts Barbara who is of course still in the city helping him out.
  • He helps some police when an armored vehicle comes through the streets blowing up police cars, batman hops into the batmobile and takes down the vehicle. Out of the wreckage a scarecrow thug tries to throw fear toxin at batman but he catches it and gets the info he wants.
  • He takes a detour to find a riddler thug, you know the drill, this leads him into an underground race track, lab thing where Riddler shows up and says he will be testing you all night long.
  • He beats the race track, Riddler says he will use the data he learned to make much harder tracks later.
  • He next visits the clock tower oracle is in, it has a statue head that you pull back like Adam West's switch, no red button, its a scanner instead. This reveals the hidden room. She is analyzing the toxin from the thug. It has a radiation she can track, Batman needs to reach an antennae in the Falcone shipping yard.
  • He beats up some goons and puts the tracker on the antennae. As he walks out he is being shot at buy a guy in a militaristic Batsuit flying through the air at him. The batsuit has a big A on it. He knocks down Batman, stomps on him and says "you aren't going anywhere". He points his gun at Batman's head and the screen fades to black and you hear a gunshot. End of demo.

I like that there are finally no more pre-rendered cinematics. That means we'll get to see out alternate costume in cutscenes.

I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Holy hell what an epic trailer. Can not freaking wait.

Also i only noticed the Xbox 1, PS4 and PC logos. Is this next gen only? That would deff be better if so.

They made a brand new villain? Oh boy.....

Yeah, it is for the best
I guess developers in general figured out how to make the new gen games less buggy than the last one

Reading that info is just awesome. Rocksteady is gonna kill it again. Damn whys the game gotta be so far away tho. I needs it now!!!

They made a brand new villain? Oh boy.....

What if this is an existing villain that just starts calling himself the Arkham Knight? What if you finally face him in the game, he removes his mask and it's... the Joker? :wow:

:oldrazz:

It really could be an existing villain though. One that just happens to take that Arkham Knight name for whatever reason. Maybe it's Wrath (the anti-Batman).

Absolutely love everything but the bolded. Riddler in a more limited role is odd, and the full Batman experience to me includes the Bat-family teaming up, which an NPC can't really in a satisfying way, imho. Perhaps WB Montreal can try and carry that flag later.

A little skeptical of this Arkham Knight as an evil Batman thing. Original villains who aren't actually very original don't usually draw me in.

i was holding off on picking up a ps4 but that it i'm in

though i will admit that i will miss the joker being a part of this

Eh, good riddance
Scarecrow and more A list Batman villains deserve their chance to shine

I so called the weapons in that thing and the remote control features on the bat mobile

It would be cool if the 'Arkham Knight' turned out to actually be Thomas Wayne Jr. considering the use of Thomas Wayne in the trailer.

Haha yeah exactly. I'm just worried this is somehow connected to Joker, but connecting Arkham Knight to Adameus Arkham could make a nice full circle.

But really, 1 year after Arkham City and we got this new mysterious badass villain?

I'm loving those details! Especially Gotham City is going to be 5x larger than Arkham City and no load times.
