i was going to make a thread on this but id rather just post it here

ok, ive been playing batman arkham asylum to prepare for origins. and you all most likely seen the room where if you go in it shows the plans for arkham city and how it was going to look.

i was in this area in the game, where you search for harley quinn and i found this:

deathstroke is in this game and it's set during christmas.....

If the city is told to be evacuated, I would completely buy it then. I hope that is indeed the case.

Gotham has always varied from a city that was maximum the size of New York and minimum the size of Chicago. Both of those cities have more people downtown on Christmas Eve than the number of people that appear to be in the game, regardless of the time at night.
Ok I'll put to you this way, this was a studio that was just made not too long ago. They may not want to deal with making a crowed city of any sort and they just want to do what was kinda done with Arkham asylum . most new dev studio's like to start off small and move from there.

The difference is that the number of people in Arkham Asylum made sense for the setting they chose. The same can be said about Arkham City.

I feel like I'm making this sound like a far bigger deal than it really is. If I am, I apologize. I have the same problem with most superhero games since a lot of them do this (particularly the Spider-Man games). It won't hurt the game for me but I was expecting a game in this franchise to avoid small problems such as these.

I can buy there not being a lot of people in a place like Old Gotham but what we saw in the demo is the downtown area, or at least close to it. Realistically speaking, no major American city the size of Gotham would have a downtown area that deserted even on Christmas Eve. The area doesn't have to necessarily be packed with people but I would expect more people than what we saw.

I could be wrong though and it could totally work within the context of the game. It is possible that they have a very good reason for so many people staying indoors (threats from Black Mask maybe?) or maybe there are a lot more people in the game than what I saw.

I think there are already great reasons for why there aren't that many people outside. We do see vehicles and there could be some people here and thinking walking outdoors, but it's supposed to be chaotic on Christmas Eve. Crimes running rampant, a bounty on Batman's head, the GCPD searching for Batman, etc.

I don't see how that's a nod to Arkham Origins.

your issues are valid. I just think they didn't want to deal with this cause of what I just said about them being new studio that was recently made and the fact that they are a new dev studio mean's they don't have some one on staff that can make a crowd program. it's kinda like how rocksteady were thinking about how to implement co-op or some sort of multiplayer and chose to push that back during Arkham city. cause they were still kinda new and that they aren't used to that thing. it's not an easy thing to jump into especially if you don't have people on your dev team that know how to do that stuff like that and pull it off so you won't have certain people in your audience complaining for trying some thing new .

so they won't do certain thing's til they have learned it or add someone or some people on their dev teams that know how to pull that off. it's a one step process at a time thing. they will only deal with what they know how to do.

i want to see now if osmething like that happens in the game. when it comes

in one e3 interview they mention something about there not being anyone in the city.
the video is at gametrailers.com. im gonna let this theory go till i play the game

So 8 Assassins.

Deathstroke
Deadshot
Bane

Now the game is supposed to be set in Batman's early days but the fact Bane is in it suggests they are playing fast and loose with that, plus we don't know if they are strictly using Batman villains or branching out across the DC spectrum, with that in mind....

Metallo
Merlyn
Penguin & his Batformer
Lady Shiva

Boba Fett? :oldrazz:

I think Lady Shiva is a given. It seems like a very obvious choice. Also, the fact that Deathstroke is in the game proves that they are not sticking strictly to just Batman villains.

I wonder what the storyline is with Penguin and Joker. Are they having a go at taking out Batman, too?

If that is the case, Joker is probably not doing it for the money assuming that WB Games Montreal knows their characters.

Would be awesome to see him get the $50 million award from Black Mask only to burn it. :hehe:

I've said this before, but I think KGBeast would fit in really well with the theme of the game. Hope someone else realized it.

Baker sounds superb. Almost indistinguishable from Hamill.

Seeing more of the gameplay footage from the Adam Sessler interview I have to say that my worries about the subtleties not being there are disappearing. Looks like that first area where Batman is fighting was actually frozen thus no footprints on the snow. Later on he fights some thugs on the rooftops on fluffier snow and we get footprints galore so I'm glad they didn't forget something like that.

I know that seems minor but I'm glad they are paying attention to that kind of stuff.

Isn't there a frame in one of the trailers with Joker sitting and batman down on his knees?

Same here. I'm hoping it's not too hit-or-miss, though. RS always had a constant eye for subtle detail.

Too bad that didn't reach to their writing at all.

Not that that image has anything to do actually with arkham origins but it's obviously referencing a hurricane there.

Also no city ever has evacuations just for snowstorms.

Just watched the demo. I am pumped for this game. The detective mode is better here. The remote claw is darn awesome. Bane is amazing, his sense of power. Can't wait to play it.

The Arkham City comics explain Penguin and Joker were friends at one point, until Joker acid flowered someone at the Iceberg lounge. It'd be fun to see them interacting positively here, before their big turf war.

I just hope the remote claw won't be as overpowered at the end of the game, as it was in the demo. Yeah, it looks fun, but looks like it might make things too easy if you can spam it all over the place. If that happens, I'll try to use it as little as possible.

They stated the Remote Claw was made overpowered for E3 to demonstrate what you can do with it.

Some Blackgate footage:

Did anyone notice that when Batman glides, his cape more closely resembles that of its Arkham Asylum incarnation than it does its Arkham City one?

Gameplay footage minus commentary, giving us a chance to better hear the voices, sound effects and music:
