Batman: Arkham Origins - Part 5

That'd be the only way it would be forgivable. Somewhat.

But if it turns out that Joker was pulling the strings from very the beginning, hiring the 8 Assassins to get Batman out of the shadows, while Black Mask sits the entire game in some room tied up, then WB Montreal screwed the pooch big time.
There's an in-game screenshot which says 'It's been you this whole time' with a pic of Joker wearing Black Mask's white suit.

I said it once, and I'll say it again. F**k Joker.

The moment I hear that they somehow got him to return in Arkham 3, the game will immediately drop off my most anticipated games list. I'll still play it eventually, because the Arkham games are simply too good to miss, but my excitement level will be really low, knowing who the big bad is.

Joker's my favourite villain.

But it's heading to overkill now. Especially if he's in the next one.

Eh, I think some people are overreacting a bit. Having a character get overexposed is never good. But honestly I thought the story was easily the weakest part of AC. I found the game much more enjoyable on repeated playthroughs were I could pretty much ignore the story and just enjoy it for the gameplay and the style. And honestly I didn't really expect much else for AO.
The only story aspect I'm actually looking forward to is Batman establishing himself and his relationship to Gordon. If that is done properly I'll be happy.

I agree, the gameplay and the atmosphere are what I'm most excited about. Playing a younger, Urban Myth Batman, fighting cops along with criminals, the random crimes and side missions, Christmas setting; these are all things that got me on the games side in the first place when I skeptical about the change in company. It's a bummer how pissed everyone is about the spoiler, kind of inconceivable to me that it would make someone not want to play the game. My excitement hasn't lessened one iota. Bring on the 25th.

I agree. Him being the main villain in the first game was fine with me since it was the first game. I did think he stole the spotlight in AC while Strange and Ra's got pushed aside too quick, but I gave it a pass since I thought he was done well. But now it's just ridiculous. Plus, at least Strange and Ra's were still the main villains of the AC in terms of context. Joker only took the narrative climax but wasn't the biggest threat in-universe. This time though, Joker not only takes the narrative climax but also makes Black Mask his b****. It's stupid.

You do understand those are only in-game excuses for the lack of citizens right?

You do know that Gotham is not a real place? And that the only reason the snowstorm exists is so that they won't have to have citizens, not the other way around?

Cause and effect. The citizens are not inside because of the game's premise, the game's premise has been engineered so as to not have to render citizens.

Next time, don't try to debunk criticisms of a game's mechanics by appealing to the story. The latter has been woven to excuse the former, and so you are only appealing to tautology.

You gotta at least give them credit for putting an effort into coming up with a somewhat-realistic scenario as to why there is a lack of people on the streets. They knew they couldn't do that on the current gen and they at least acknowledged that flaw and look for an in-universe solution that wouldn't ignore the realism established in AA & AC. Most superhero games don't do that. It's not like in the Spider-Man games, where there are only like 5 people in Times Square on a bright normal sunny day in the "city that never sleeps".

I've only go to see the croc and slade fights but man they look awesome!

The Soundtrack is out. I'm staying out of here so I don't get spoiled . See ya Sunday.

How much do you want to bet that Joker will be Hush's benefactor in Arkham 3?

Joke aside, I am still buying the game and am excited about it, even though the revelation took my future final rating down a star. The story is intriguing and I am excited about the expansion of the Arkham Mythos with the assassins and connections to some awesome Batman comics such as 'Dark Victory' and 'Legends of the Dark Knight.' And the design for the game looks awesome, with the contrast of the industrial menace with Christmas ornamentation.

I know this is a huge stretch, but, I hope they will have an Easter Egg alluding to Mr. Whisper, considering they tapped into the 'Legends...' comic line and the presence of the Cathedral.

That would be crazy and awesome.

Got this game a few hours ago. Great surprise to start out the day, I wasn't expecting it til tomorrow. Played the first 2 hours. Just fantastic, as a die hard fan of the first two especially the combat system I cansafely say it's better here than the previous two. I love that Batman is faster and it sounds like he hits harder. Loving the story, Roger Craig Smith is effin fantastic as Batman, I hope he plays him many many more times. The game is beautiful to look at. It already has one of the best boss fights in an Arkham game and I'm only 2 hours in. I think the backlash over the Joker is a wee bit ridiculous but this is the internet so no surprise there. It's on track to easily be the best of the 3.

 Great to hear! So damn excited to get this Friday.

How did you get the game early btw? If I could pick up my preorder early that would be awesome!

I'm just here to say that I can't believe they did the *end spoiler* that is going through the Internet.

Damn.

I usually am able to get games a few days early from a little shop where I live.

Exactly my point, thank you sir.

Sweet man, agreed the joker backlash is ridiculous but hey can't please everyone apparently. Doesn't bother me one bit so not gonna let it ruin my experience. Glad you're loving the game so far. :woot:

Ridiculous or not, it's still bull**** that they keep making Joker the central figure of 3 Arkham games. There have been great Batman stories that didn't involve the Joker. And Joker isn't the only one to have best Batman, or to come close to kill him. I still can't believe that Arkham City gave us Hugo Strange and Ra's Al Ghul, and both basically play second fiddle to Joker's cure plot. Ra's Al 'effin' Ghul, and he felt shoehorned into the plot.

I agree with Nathan here. It felt OK in AC though because it was, after all, only the second time Joker got the spot light. Though it still sucked how Dr Strange and Ra's got the short stick.

This time though it's the third time in a row, and it sacrifices another villain just to make him the main one again in a very forced way.

Yeah, I agree as well. It's very shoddy story telling, and proves us right when we said this was a prequel only to get more Joker.

I mean as I said I don't mind it so I'm fine with it. But why don't you that are against it wait to play the game, and see how it's done and plays out? You might enjoy it it might be done well enough like AC. The overall gameplay and experience will still be awesome I'm sure as well.
