Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

I've only see the 2 Planet of the Apes films he's done, but why are so many either very pro or anti- Reeves for this film? I haven't seen enough of his work to be anything other than neutral.
HA! Same. I really just want a GOOD new Batman movie. Don't care who directs it. Nothing I've seen from Reeves makes me think he's the perfect choice or anything, but he's acceptable.

Benjamin Walker definitely has that strong but innocent farm boy look going on, would totally buy into him as Supes/Clark.

I love Henry but he just looks like a really hot dude trying to pull off a hipster look when he's at the planet or just in a suit in general lol.

You summed it up perfectly :sly: And I really enjoyed the 2nd Planet of the Aped

I don't know if Matt Reeves is the right guy for Batman or not but what I will say is that I've enjoyed his last four films, and three of them were highly successful. All all dealt with fairly dark and bleak subject matter, so I think he might be able to pull this off.

Fincher would still be perfect. He is the only director I can think of that has a rapid shot length while still keeping things utterly gripping.

Lots of directors could do Batman. I was particularly fond of James Gunn’s suggestion of Jeremy Saulnier.

I don't think Fincher would ever do it. Didn't he say in an interview a while back that he hates superhero movies?

Look, there’s a very large talent pool of people who don’t feel there’s much for them in terms of sustenance working for Marvel. And I think that if we can make a playground for them that is thoughtful, adult, interesting, complex, challenging stories and figure out ways to pull them into it, there’s a chance at something that isn’t lassoed and hogtied by three acts. And there’s something else that doesn’t have to be 22-minute half hour or have a cliffhanger. I think it is an exciting time

Jake G is the perfect choice. But Ben Barnes is also a great suggestion.

If we get a new actor, $5 says it's someone none of us were thinking about.

Like an unknown? Because otherwise I'm pretty sure every actor 25+ in Hollywood has been combed through by fans as potential candidates over the past decade.

Yeah, it's almost definitely not going to be a total unknown. I'd guess Cavill-pre-MoS or higher, in terms of already having a career.

Eh, there could be someone out there none of us have mentioned that swoops in and nabs the role. Daniel Craig wasn't on anyone's radar for James Bond before he was cast, was he? And the Brits actually place wagers on that stuff, I think.

Not for James Bond, no. But he was a known quantity, a mid-level actor with a career spanning a decade and a half or whatever.

Which is what we're getting at, it'll be someone whose name we're already familiar with for something or other. Not some total newbie without a resume.

Well, that's not what I meant when I posted that. I just meant that it could be someone we haven't thought of for Batman. Not to say it's an unknown.

Nobody thought of Ledger for The Joker, but that's who it ended up being. If we do get a Batman, I wouldn't be shocked if it was a choice out of left field. Hell, who saw Affleck being Batman before he was cast?

Well, nobody, but on paper Affleck sort of ticks all of the boxes. I don't know I'd call him "out of left field" the way, say, Keaton was. Or, yeah, Ledger as Joker.

Affleck was not out of left field physically. It was a surprise because he's a bad actor who blew it with a superhero in the past.

Affleck was WB's golden boy after The Town and Argo. And they wanted him as Batman as far back as the first try at Justice League.

Affleck was out of left field because he is so bland. Not his physical attributes.

I don't think anyone can be more "out of left field" than Keaton. We could use more out of the box thinking like that.
