Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

Yeah Tom Cullen may not look like Bruce but then again Bale didn't and look at what happened with him? He was cast and his career more or less took off after that

I mean, Tom Cullen looks the part enough. Same goes for Bale. The one guy who looked completely unlike Bruce Wayne was Michael Keaton, but damn did he own it.

I haven't seen Tom in enough things to judge how good an actor he is, but can he at least do an American accent? Haven't seen any footage of him doing that yet myself.

Tom Cullen feels like a boring pick

Yeah may be to you but Bale I remember when he was cast people said the same thing about him in that he didn't look enough like comic book Bruce but then he made the role his own and what happened after that? The Nolan trilogy became a classic more or less because of him being in the role so the same thing can happen especially if you cast someone like Tom Cullen in the role

Eh, I don't remember any of that.

Bale was the overwhelmingly fan favorite top choice for the role back then. People were lobbying hard for him to be cast as Batman and everyone rejoiced when it happened.

That rarely happens and it hasn't happened since then.

At this point, there is no fan favorite for the role. There wasn't one when Affleck was cast either.

Yeah I can’t think of a single other actor being cast in ANY comic book movie role that was met with as warm a reception as Bale was. He was a clear fan favorite for years after American Psycho and Equilibrium.

Chris Evans and Henry Cavill had a lot of people excited (and relieved) too but it was nothing close to the Bale hype.

I’d say that with just American Psycho alone, Bale was considered an interesting actor. With The Machinist too and, to a lesser extend, though only because it’s been kind of forgotten, Velvet Goldmine.

Cullen just isn’t a particularly inspiring choice.

Tom Cullen seems like a guy from a tv show I've never heard of and probably will not be Batman!

Bale looks like Year One Bruce Wayne.

Exactly Gyllenhaal is out so we may as well fan cast someone else for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman now that being said I would go with the following actors:

- Tom Cullen
- Colin Farrell
- Josh Hartnett
- Armie Hammer
- Matt Bomer
- Ryan Gosling
- Taylor Kitsch
- Oscar Isaac

Isaac is too short. Kitsch has no range and is box office poison. Bomer would have worked 10 years ago as a young Batman. Farrell is past it. Hartnett is way past it. I still don't get why he didn't sign on as Superman. That killed his career.

Hammer would work but he seems too soft.

Gosling could be Batman if he wanted to, but I doubt he'd take it.

Cullen seems the best option.

I guess a lot of fandom for Bale at the time was he wasn't a prettyboy. He took risks in his roles and he had range.

Recall in 2004 the last actors selected was Joshua Jackson (of Dawson's Creek), Cillian Murphy (of 28 Days Later), Jake Gyllenhaal (who was still kinda unknown outside of indies) and there was a dude who was from band of Brothers.

So of course Bale will seem PERFECT compared to those. Plus Bale wasn't some huge star whose persona would distract from his acting as Bruce.

Joshua Jackson now I can actually see him as Bruce Wayne/Batman or even Cillian Murphy believe it or not

I could see Cillian Murphy as a Morrison-style Joker ala "The Clown at Midnight," but not as Batman. No way.

Freddie Prinze Jr. as Bruce Wayne/Batman ripley’s believe it or not.

Joshua Jacksons batman chances expired a long time ago. He was really only viable during the nolan casting process. Imo. And I cant see Cillian Murphy as Bruce at all.

Luke Evans, Jensen Ackles, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Richard Armitage, Armie Hammer, Karl Urban, Scott Adkins

He doesn't look like Bruce Wayne ripped from the comics, but Toby Kebbell is somebody else I'd keep an eye on as a potential left-field choice. Very talented actor, and he has history with Reeves.

Kebbel would be a secondary villain, if at all. I’m not trying to knock the guy, btw. I could see him as Scarecrow.

Joseph Gordon Levitt I don't know why no one has thrown his name into here; I can actually see him as Bruce believe it or not even though he was a part of the Nolan trilogy

I completely agree. Toby Kebbell was the first guy I thought of over a year ago when Reeves first got the gig and it looked like Affleck might possibly leave the role. He's got a presence about him and acting chops that would really benefit him in the Batman/Bruce Wayne role.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were to find out eventually that he was one of the other actors that Reeves approached last year along with Gyllenhaal.

Toby Kebbell is out of left field but after the Fantastic Four debacle he was in would he even be interested in another superhero franchise

As a matter of fact, yes, he would! :yay:

And he's a Clayface fan apparently... :sly:

He doesn't scream hero to me more like villain

Clayface would make for a good villain in a detective-style Batman film. :sly:

Potentially! I still think Reeves is probably going to opt for a more "normal" villain, but there's definitely a ton of ways he could do Clayface and make it work.

That said, if we don't get Gyllenhaal for Bruce, I'm hoping for Kebbell. I think he'd be great in the role.
