Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 3

I just found out Toby Kebbell was in "The Hurricane Heist."

Yeah, I don't want him to play Batman anymore.

And Ben Affleck was in Gigli... so what?

Nothing, just joking around.

Man, I hope we get some legit news soon. Even if it’s just that Affleck is staying on. At least then I could just ignore this film.

You would really ignore the film if Affleck stays on?

I only want Affleck on if he puts the effort he did in BvS, his JL performance was pretty unenthusiastic (though, given all the behind the scenes drama, not unwarranted either), almost on par with Clooney's lack of performance.

However, if Affleck does leave then who should be cast?

I just want Affleck to stay long enough to really portray an older Batman and give us the closest adaptation to The Dark Knight Returns instead of making references to it. Yeah, you’d have to change a lot of stuff but I mean as close as possible.

They need to move away from the TDKR influences.

I don’t believe that. They just need to use that influence in a meaningful way, unlike what Rises or BvS did. Hell, if you think about it, Logan was the closest TDKR adaptation we have, and that’s not a Batman movie!

The difference between the dceu batman and the others you mentioned is their story was earned in a sense. With this batman we just got tossed into his life at an awkward stage.

While I can see that point, there’s no reason to suggest he doesn’t grow more cynical and downtrodden in the future. We’ve never had an old Batman story brought to the big screen. Even in Rises, he was in his late 30s and still had his idealism. This Batman is middle aged but not as old has he was in the story.

Again, I’m not suggesting an absolutely faithful adaptation. The Superman in this prevents that, among other things. But why not introduce a dystopian Gotham, Carrie Kelly (not played by a sexy 20 year old btw), or the Mutant leader? I admit adding Two Face, The Joker, and Catwoman into the mix makes it more cluttered as a film than it would on page but then focus on the elements I mentioned? Make it streamlined for a movie. Affleck gets the cynicism better than any Batman/Bruce I’ve seen on the big screen, except maybe Keaton. He’d kill it if given this chance.

If a live action DKR was going to happen I feel it's going to have to be it's own thing. If we're dealing with a connected universe batman I'd like for us to grow in to older age with him and the others.

Exactly. I’m not saying to do it right now. Maybe in a couple more years when Affleck has been in enough movies for us to be connected to him, the impact of a live action DKR would hit us.

I was never wild about the idea of an older Batman, but after seeing DP2, I think it’s a real shame we’ll never see Josh Brolin wear the cape and cowl. He could’ve given Bale and Keaton a run for their money.

Carrie Kelly is really the only thing left to do. And one I'd like to see!

I'd be annoyed if they get to Carrie before even touching on Grayson, Todd, or Drake.
