Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 4

Twilight was hated by many people...and BELOVED by many people. That's how the movies made so much money.

However, you guys are right that an incredibly juvenile and pathetic section of fanboys would despise the choice because of Twilight. These people are absurd...but they exist.

You show me a person who thinks that Twilight ruined vampire films and I'll show you someone who probably did not see Afflicted, Stakeland, Byzantium, Only Lovers Left Alive, Thirst and the many, many, MANY other vampire movies that came out during that period. They should stop blaming Twilight and start blaming themselves. YA films introduced Horror concepts to a mostly female crowd who would never watch Horror...but as those ladies got older, they DID start watching some Horror...but wanted the movies to focus more on the characters and relationships, rather than torture or some of the misogynistic elements of Horror. Did that help push Horror into the new Golden Age that we are currently living in? Maybe...maybe not...but it didn't hurt the box office of these movies, which are enjoying a massive female audience.

And for people who think he can't act...well...I refuse to believe that they have seen any of the films that he absolutely SLAYED in. He's an Oscar caliber actor, and will eventually get noticed by the industry as such. He could be Bruce Wayne in his sleep.

Pattinson is brilliant in Good Time. His performance is up there with the likes of Christian Bale, easily. I’ve been banging the Pattinson drum ever since it looked like Affleck was leaving over a year ago, because of his work in that film.

He’s certainly not perfect, but he’s a contender, given his age, looks and acting ability. I’d still prefer Dan Stevens, but I’d be happy if it were Pattinson.
If Pattinson gets the role, I won't feel bad, good or enthusiastic about it. I can say the same basically about anyone else suggested in the thread. Not saying that none of them fit, it's just, based on previous work or appearance, none of them scream "Bruce Wayne" in my eyes. It's hard to see it at this point, especially not knowing the tone, the story and designs of the film.

Who was your choice?

first reaction after actor is announced: LOL le epic fail who is Matt Reeves kidding I’m boycotting this movie

When the trailer is released: Matt Reeves good sir, I take off my hat to you. [actor] looks absolutely superb as Batman aka Bruce Wayne, the dark knight of Gotham himself. In fact, I could not picture any one else portraying Batman now. This is le epic win, good sir!

True. Hollywood is flooded with actors who could play this role. It's a role that both Christian Bale and Adam West were amazing at. The guy who played Mr Mom is STILL many people's favorite version of the character. They have a direction they want to go with the character, and will pick an actor that they believe can bring that to life.

I was watching a clip from the old Batman TV show with Adam West and man, his performance really holds up even in that campy setting. He really is great.

You mean ESPECIALLY in that campy setting. Batman is a very diverse character. You could easily do a Batman Horror film. You could easily do a mystery thriller. You could pattern one after a mob/cop movie. The Lego Batman movie was great! I think we all have our preferences about what we'd want, but we shouldnt go in already judging a movie before we see it because it's not what we want it to be. It could be exactly what I want and still be terrible...or the opposite of what I want and be amazing. But...more than likely we'll see a fan meltdown regardless of who is cast.

I feel like Adam West captured the essence of Batman even in a campy settting. His way of speaking, the fact he took everything so seriously... seriously, if you like Batman you have to like Adam West.

Yeah, you don't like West's show, you don't like Batman. Period.

I wouldn't mind getting another light-hearted jokey take on Batman at some point. Probably not a movie, but I dunno, a cool animated series or something. If it weren't for The Tick, Warburton probably would have been pretty awesome as a West-y take on Batman, certainly has the look for it in live-action (maybe a little old by now though), and the voice for it in animation.

This is the number one reason why he’s not only the best comic book character of all time, but one of the greatest fictional characters of all time, period.

Pattinson has done enough since Twilight to have already proven himself. He has made really interesting choices. I liked "Good Time" and "Cosmopolis". He makes good movies. I think it should be purely about whether you think he is suitable for the role, not holding Twilight against him (I watched the Twilight movies when they came out and enjoyed them.)

My main concern is how convincing of an action hero he can be. He has done some fight scenes, but not to the extent of Batman. He would look good in the cowl and as Bruce Wayne but I do wonder how tough and intimidating he would be. I wonder about that for a lot of the actors mentioned, especially if Reeves is looking for someone younger. That makes it tougher.

I just need it to not be someone that's been fancasted (or previously casted) for years. If I hear "Armie Hammer" again I'm going to go insane.

Do we know how young Reeves is looking? If we're talking 20s, Dylan O'Brien (yes I know people want him as a Robin). He can act, and has gotten buff the past few years. Or... Cameron Monaghan. Him playing Ian Gallagher and the Joker has shown his acting range and he's 6 ft tall which is nice. They'd just need to color his hair.

I'm not against the R Patz idea, if we're going 30s Batman. Not for it, not against it. Garrett Hedlund would be a good idea too.

This is probably the most idiotic criticism that's ever been expressed in this sub but... Cameron is too pale for Batman.

And I really can't look at him and think "Bruce Wayne"

Hahaha omg that's hilarious. He just needs a a tan! (dude is very pale though)

Yea, I don't think he LOOKS like Batman. But they can do things with make up, and he's got a square chin. He also had a build that can build up muscle, he's taller than O'Connell (the only thing stopping me is O'Connell's height) and I like the idea of a semi-unknown.

"Fit the bill" is a very vague term and one that comes with all sorts of biases. The trick here is to look at that list, what we know of Reeves' previous casting choices in other films and what we know about the rumors for The Batman and ignore our own personal biases and instead try to discern what Reeves is looking for in his Batman.

Because someone like ATJ, Hoult or O'Connell seems very likely for the part, I think. Reeves almost certainly won't go for a young Affleck type, if that's what you're expecting.

These are just my opinions

ATJ has just never personally wowed me in anything. That's not to say I dislike him he was great fun in Kickass and the Avenger's he just never really stood out for me where I was like damn this guys a great actor.

I have liked Hoult since About A Boy but I've never seen him as a Batman. Not saying he's ugly or anything but Wayne's meant to be incredibly handsome and charismatic and I just don't get those vibes from Hoult at all or a feeling of physicality.

O'Connell you could maybe persuade me as a Robin (Jason Todd) but again he has more of jack the lad look to him where I would not buy him as genius level intellect at all.

The latest rumours of Robert Pattinson scare me the most though, mainly cause in all honestly I've never seen anything I liked him in. First seen him in Harry Potter didn't like him there, then the Twilight films which between him and Stewart have about as much emotion as a tin of paint

Ben Barnes is seriously gunning for the role. Shame he's too old, he was brilliant in Punisher Season Two regardless what you think of the writing, he acted his ass off.

I hate when actors self-promote for roles like this. Keep your mouth shut, encourage your agent to get you into the room for an audition and hope for the best. No one wants to see your desperation.

Also, put me down as another one who would be on board with Pattinson.
