Twilight was hated by many people...and BELOVED by many people. That's how the movies made so much money.
However, you guys are right that an incredibly juvenile and pathetic section of fanboys would despise the choice because of Twilight. These people are absurd...but they exist.
You show me a person who thinks that Twilight ruined vampire films and I'll show you someone who probably did not see Afflicted, Stakeland, Byzantium, Only Lovers Left Alive, Thirst and the many, many, MANY other vampire movies that came out during that period. They should stop blaming Twilight and start blaming themselves. YA films introduced Horror concepts to a mostly female crowd who would never watch Horror...but as those ladies got older, they DID start watching some Horror...but wanted the movies to focus more on the characters and relationships, rather than torture or some of the misogynistic elements of Horror. Did that help push Horror into the new Golden Age that we are currently living in? Maybe...maybe not...but it didn't hurt the box office of these movies, which are enjoying a massive female audience.
And for people who think he can't act...well...I refuse to believe that they have seen any of the films that he absolutely SLAYED in. He's an Oscar caliber actor, and will eventually get noticed by the industry as such. He could be Bruce Wayne in his sleep.
