Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 6

Jeff Sneider says that they haven't started casting at all and that even Kroll from Variety hasn't heard any names AT ALL. Also that he hears that the age range for the casting is 25-33 YEARS OLD.
He also states that WB has asked in recent drafts for Reeves to include more action. And MFR on his most recent report on his site reiterates that (he was the first to spread that rumor back in December) because there was "hardly any action in it" initially...

One of the reasons given for Shazam's lack-luster performance is that Shazam didn't have enough action scenes, now imagine a Batman movie with very little action.

I can and :pcg:cos it would be like Seven and that is the kind of Batman I want.

Shazam underperformed?

Odd, it was quite good.

And yes, we need more of a detective batman.

They should just make a Batman movie set in current timeline, use Affleck's script (or start with that script and modify it a bit) and give it to another director, meanwhile Matt Reeves can take his time to to "polish" his script set in 90's and make a movie with younger Batman when he's ready.

I'm wary of this. Writing in more action is fine so long as it's organic to the story that's in place. If Reeves has had to make changes to the story and his overall approach in order to accommodate additional action pieces, I'd have a problem with that.

It didn't bomb but it under-performed partly due to release date set 3 weeks before Avengers Endgame and it also had to compete with likes of Dumbo, Captain Marvel and WB's Llorona..

While I would welcome a character driven Batman movie with little action and more focus on his Detective work, I have doubts about such a movie getting financial success.

If The Batman doesn't have action and it's only an investigation noir film, it'll bomb just like Blade Runner 2049. I'm fine with more action as long as Rreves manages to make it work

Truth be told, even I'm starting to have doubts that this film comes to fruition. I'm not genuinely worried yet, but the thought has crept into my mind. Even if we assume Reeves didn't start working on the script until the start of 2018, he's had almost a year and a half now. And again, that's assuming he took time off after War. If he actually started working on it right after War came out, then he's had nearly two years. And it feels like he's been "tweaking" this thing since September of last year.

I'm all for giving directors/writers the time they need to perfect their scripts, but 1.5-2 years definitely raises an eyebrow. Now we're getting murmurs of the studio wanting Reeves to throw more action in there? After two years and however many revisions?

I dunno. This has the stink of "creative differences" all over it. Something's dragging this out, and I don't like it.

I think we're all better off assuming this film will not happen until Batman is cast.

I honestly think the script polishing answer is just what the studio says when they get asked. I think a script like this will get tweaked as needed. The studio will reveal when ready like with a press release, etc.

I thought Shazam and Captain Marvel were both lame... Not surprised Shazam underperformed. I love the character, but something just didn’t click with that movie. I thought the humor was very weak, and the story wasn’t engaging, even when they tried to get emotional. I genuinely wanted to love the movie. I was so hyped. Before the movie, i saw a little boy in my theater in a wheelchair and it brought a tear to my eye because that kid finally has a disabled hero to look up to in Freddy. I recognize that objectively there weren’t any massive issues, it just was so damn bland. Zachary Levi didn’t impress me either... I’m shocked to see so many of you enjoyed it. The fact that it was aimed at kids wasn’t the issue either, I can and have enjoyed plenty of family movies.

But then again, the best movie I’ve seen this year has been Under the Silver Lake and that’s gotten very mixed reviews, so what do I know?

It was stupid to put everything on the line for this guy. They should’ve had multiple scripts in the work and chosen the best one.

I don’t trust Reeves... yet. He hasn’t sold me. And I do genuinely like his movies.

Sorry you didn't like dude (Shazam that is) :(

Also starting to smell the stench of creative differences. The movie gods really wanted Batman to take a nap after Rises, I think. The Snyderverse really damaged a priceless brand I think... fingers crossed we get this movie.

Maybe they need a physical threat in the film beyond "mobster supervillains" like Penguin.

I always loved the idea of Court Of The Owl being the main antagonist. I mean think about about it - I'd have some Robert Langdon style detective work because it's literally going to be Batman v The Illuminati. Plus the Talons would be interesting to see on screen in how they fight.

I like a combination of classic mobster types like Penguin and hired guns like Deathstroke who can give Bats a real run for his money in the combat stakes. I would definitely be interested in seeing the Court of Owls too.

My positive spin on this is “tweaking the script” is their nice way of saying “we aren’t ready share any significant updates like casting yet, so this is all you get!”

Two months ago Reeves said casting would start “soon” and that they were getting their ducks in a row/their attack plan ready.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the role has actually been cast already or Reeves knows who he wants for the role. That’s why no one has heard about any names screentesting or what not because Reeves already picked his guy or has a list of people he wants to approach soon.
