Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 6

How ****ing hard would it have been to:
1.) tell Leto to tone it the **** down and make him watch TDKR part II for inspiration
2.) bring Affleck, Robbie, Simmons and Irons back
3.) adapt Under the Red Hood

That’s what the fans wanted and they have the perfect blueprint from the animated movie. It could’ve easily been released this year if they were smart

I always like when people say the next Batman movie should be Under the Red Hood. Because what better way to prove to critics and audiences alike that you're not too grimdark than by *checks notes* opening your film with child murder?

Under The Red Hood would be a terrible movie to start a new Batman franchise with.
I don’t agree with that at all considering Batfleck’s Robin had already been killed pre-BVS. It was the obvious storyline for the first film, the seeds were already planted. Fans were generally agreed on that being the best storyline to adapt for the first film too. That and Court of Owls were the most discussed storylines when Affleck was still attached.

I don't think that story would be that interesting without a better setup than an easter egg in a terrible movie

How much setup do you think they need? The animated movie did fine with zero setup. They established Bruce’s relationship with Jason via flashbacks and it was enough.

Ideally, the next Batman movie will use the Nolan formula of not directly adapting any one storyline, but taking bits and pieces of different ones. UTRH provides a wonderful foundation for a movie that’s conceived like TDKT was.

I’d also like to see Arkham Asylum: ASHOSE inform a Batman movie in the same way that TKJ, Year One, TDKR, Knightfall, and NML informed TDKT.

UTRH doesn’t exactly work the way it’s supposed to when you have a Batman that goes around killing basically indiscriminately.

Affleck was a bad Batman, there's no way but up from there. Also what's up with all the doom & gloom, this film isn't out until 2021. When BvS was meant to open in July 2015, Batman wasn't cast until August 2013. I see no reason why Reeves using the time he has is such a bad thing, especially since Suicide Squad 2 is only so far ahead because James Gunn is shooting Guardians 3 in 2020, so that film might be pushed up to late 2020 if he wraps up post on time.

No, Ben was generally liked as Batman, and he’s the favorite on screen Batman and Bruce Wayne for a lot people.

Jeff Sneider says that they haven't started casting at all and that even Kroll from Variety hasn't heard any names AT ALL. Also that he hears that the age range for the casting is 25-33 YEARS OLD.
He also states that WB has asked in recent drafts for Reeves to include more action. And MFR on his most recent report on his site reiterates that (he was the first to spread that rumor back in December) because there was "hardly any action in it" initially...

But wasn't Reeves supposedly looking at Gyllenhaal back in 2017? Or was that yet another bs rumor?

That could still be true but that was back in 2017... things may have changed as the script evolved.

I can and :pcg:cos it would be like Seven and that is the kind of Batman I want.
A Batman that just walks around and will only run from time to time as far as action goes?
Sorry folks, but to me Batman is the greatest action hero and has the greatest action franchise of all time. There's nothing else like some great Batman action that is exhilarating and literally gets you all goosebumped in the theater because of its epicness and plain badassery.

The Snyderverse really damaged a priceless brand I think... fingers crossed we get this movie.
Except it didn't. Everybody was in favor of Ben's Batman to continue (even the greatest detractors would have given him a chance, I strongly feel) and wanted to see a solo of his ASAP. To me, he's the GOAT cinematic Batman/Bruce Wayne for the simple reason that his Batman is his true self, while Bruce the mask (something that Burton and Nolan failed to evoke). It's just too bad Ben abandoned his and Reeves' solo and never gave a **** all along about giving us a great trilogy...

Two months ago Reeves said casting would start “soon” and that they were getting their ducks in a row/their attack plan ready.

If they aren't sailing along with that plan, this could be interpreted as an alarming sign in light of the recent developments...

This all day long, and twice on Sunday.

That's a moot point if Affleck didn't want to do anymore Batman films.

Unless you guys would have been content with the studio forcing him to do it and Affleck phoning it in just to get it done.

How the hell do you do Under The Red Hood with a Batman who is happy to kill?

….Mr Reeves, Mr Reeves.....you know we said you weren't required ? Please be on set in 5 minutes, my assistant will have your cheque ready......

Many people reported on that rumor, so there's a good chance it really was true (Gyllenhall being Reeves' #1 pick). But as Reeves went on in developing his story he aged Bruce down even more to the point that now he's around 30 years old in the script.

Of course and nobody forced (or wanted) Ben to do anything he didn't feel like and ultimately left on his own accord... I'm just expressing my bitterness because I loved him so much in the role and had the highest of hopes...

UTRH for Batfleck would have actually worked incredibly well because you'd have Jason come back from the dead as Red Hood and be extra vengeful on Batman's ass for not killing Joker when he became a killer and what would piss Jason off even more is that he isn't anymore (a killer). You'd have Jason as this influence on Bruce to revert back to his dark and bloodthirsty BvS days, while bringing in Dick as Nightwing (after him and Bruce fell of), perharps also Tim (adapting 'A Lonely Place of Dying'), and having act either or both as the light for Bruce to keep his morally straight path (while all of them trying to save and rehabilitate Jason). It could have been an incredibly emotional tale of a brotherhood of boys and men that were once a family (and would be again in the future) and thematically all about second chances. It would have been amazing and could be the greatest Batman film ever if all the stars were to aling, but alas...

Just... no. That completely alters both the dynamic between Bruce and Jason, and undercuts the themes of the story. Stop trying to crowbar classic Batman stories in to fit Snyder’s awful, murdery characterisation.
