Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

None of these names are getting me excited. I really think I'd like an up and come, but they're never gonna rest a property this important on an unknown. I just want something inspired, but I don't have any good suggestions. I know...I suck. :o

Toby Kebbell was bad as Doom. He seemed to lack any menace and he generally has a bit of a dopey look which I don't think would suit the Bat cowl. He definitely doesn't seem like Batman.

His name was brought up in the Harvey Dent casting threads, but what about Justin Theroux? He can bring that unhinged intensity, is ridiculously in shape for his age and is a great actor overall. He's older than Be, but I think he could be a great outside the box casting choice.

We should just go back and look at who they were first considering along with Affleck.

Matthew Goode and Joe Manganiello were finalists for Superman in MOS and Batman in BVS

Ryan Reynolds was cast as The Flash and then he was cast as Green Lantern

Cavill was a finalist for Flyby before he was cast in MOS

Armie was cast as Batman in Mortal and then he was apparently considered again for Superman in MOS

Clearly WB remembers the guys who came close to playing superheroes while casting new ones

I think the most likely options are Richard Armitage and Armie Hammer.

But if they can snag Gyllenhaal for this, that'd be a huge win. Doubt he'd sign for six films though like they'd need him to

It will likely be someone less known whom they could get for a six-film deal. Not a complete unknown, but someone more on Cavill's level, or even on Evans and Hemsworth's level when they were first signed. I don't know if they'd go for a big name like Affleck again.

I thought Manganiello was Deathstroke. Now Deathstroke gets bumped up to Batman?

That's possible. They did the same thing with Christopher Reeve, and I'd never heard of Hemsworth when he was cast as Thor. Batman sells, the character can carry it. So long as the actor has the chops they can afford to not necessarily go with a 'household name'.

Well Michael Keaton wasn't so known when he was cast. What did people know him as mostly? Mr Mom?

According to THR, WB is mulling replacing Affleck. That doesn't mean it will happen, but that means fans are already talking about recasting.

*sigh*

I hope Matt Reeves gets Affleck excited and fights to keep him on for The Batman. I really want Reeves to imbue the kind of nuance and heart he imbued on the Apes franchise. And his track record is much better than Snyder's was.

I see.......thanks.

The Flash isn't cancelled. They're developing a script and actively seeking a director.

They've been doing that for years, and lost three directors already. It may not be cancelled, per se, but it sure isn't in healthy development.

Just cast a younger guy and put a little gray in his hair, claim he's the same veteran Bats we've had so far, but since the actor is younger he can go on longer than Ben could've.

And then, if you want? Have someone ask him "Wait, aren't you awfully young for your age?" and he can give a deadpan reply along the lines of "Best medicine money can buy. Also, an encounter with a Lazarus Pit."

Why does he need to say all that when he can just say "I'm Batman"? That will explain all. :o

I don't know why we're worrying! If anybody here has seen Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space you'll know that recasting a guy who wears a cape isn't a problem! :yay:

If Manganiello's Deathstroke isn't in JL, I'd be fine with him as Batman.

Oh, gosh, that movie. I cringe just hearing the name.

Maybe reacted too soon with this thread! Sorry :(

I love Ben as Batman and would prefer they didn't recast. But if he didn't want to do it, I wouldn't want him to do it

Glad to see he's in though.

Pretty confident that Affleck will stay on, but I'd love Richard Armitage in the role. Not the closest resemblance or other similarities to Affleck, but I feel like he fits the Bat role.

If they are really gonna recast, I would like someone younger. I don't much care about staying true to the so far established continuity, as long as the movies are good

If they do recast, are they going to pretend that the new guy is Ben Affleck and nothing has changed?
