Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

We've come to the point where awaiting the casting of a comic character like Batman isn't really special anymore. It's like how these movies are made. Thank you come again. Even if it's someone I can really dig, how special these casting choices are is just... whatever. It's just part of how the movie culture has changed compared to fifteen years ago.

But this article says on some ESPN podcast in 2015 the interviewer asked Jake what superhero he would most like to play and Jake apparently responded with "Batman, I would love to play Batman."

If Matt wants him it's possible Jake might actually be our guy!

I just hope they can get Jake to actually you know, commit to the universe for the next 10 years or so. Maybe even just 5 movies, Three Batman's and potentially 2 more JL movies.

15 years ago we had 4 batman movies and 3 different actors.
How special was it really? :funny:

3 Batmans and 1 Justice league. 2018 to 2025 is more than enough. Hell I say don't even do the second Justice League.

I want more crossover movies, but if JL doesn't even open above ****ing Thor: Ragnarok than I can see why they would abandon the idea... at least for a while.

Well, then okay.:) Hope he does us proud.

And yet, every time James Bond is recast is a major event.

Too soft? And Affleck is hard? Ben's voice is high and he deepened his voice for the role. Gosling is not boring lol, Armitage is boring. I can't even remember a single performance or character from Armitage. Gos has Drive, Place Beyond The Pines, Blue Valentine, Lars and the Real Girl, Nice Guys, La La Land and Bladerunner under his belt.

Jake is probably my favourite actor right now. He has the physicality, chops, dynamics to play anyone from Bruce to Joker. He can pull off quiet intensity, rage, a tortured soul, cold, warm, charismatic fun playboy. All of it. Who cares if his face isn't like Affleck's, and doesn't immediately remind us of the character from the comics. What good has that done anyway? All we've gotten is two wooden performances. Time to get a GOOD actor with range and gravitas back in the role.

I didn't say that Affleck is an ideal choice either, but he's certainly more appropriate at least from a physical perspective. I like Gyllenhaal, but in some of his more adult roles, you can see him acting (not so much in his best performance in Donnie Darko). For something like Nightcrawler, you can tell that he chose specific facial mannerisms; his method doesn't disappear as well as many actors. That doesn't mean he's giving a "bad" performance, just that he doesn't disappear. I didn't find him convincing as a detective in Prisoners; he still felt like a kid in man's clothes. How is he going to become the "world's greatest detective"?

Maaaaan!
I love Jake and all but I really wanted to see him Play Joker one day.
He just has the perfect energy and charisma for that role.

I love Jake Gyllenhaal and I would be 100% in favor of him playing Batman; he's so damn great at playing convincing troubled and flawed heroes. Man I hope this happens.

His performance will also be a lot more interesting than "brooding white guy" of Ben Affleck. It will more likely be akin to Keaton's oddball performance.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Batman and Ben Foster as The Joker.

Paul Dano as The Joker would be good for a Prisoners reunion too.

He's definitely strange looking enough for the part. :p
Perfect for Dano!

Gyllenhaal would be an unusual choice (in a Keaton way), IMO, but I like him as an actor and I trust Reeves if he makes this pick.

I need to rewatch Prisoners, by the way.

He was supposed to be a young detective in Prisoners. But a kid in man's clothes? He doesn't disappear? I totally disagree. Not many actors completely disappear. Only a few. Makeup is a big help. But he DOES become his characters and he's believable. So let's agree to disagree.

Also if he looks like the comic book character means nothing to me. As long as he's not 5 feet tall and crossed eyed and balding or something lol, then It doesn't matter. Focus on acting ability.

With the boots and cowl he'd be over six-feet-tall. That's a non-issue.

6 feet is an alright average height. It will look perfectly fine on camera. The cape and bat-ears will make him look taller. As well as camera angles.

I would be down for Gyllenhaal, but I'm also not holding my breath.

Personally, I'm still pulling for Isaac.

Could mean they return. If it's prequels, just dye their hair and apply a bit of makeup. Nothing drastic. If they're recast, no huge loss. As long as they good actors.
