Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

I highly suggest folks watch this video analyzing Gyllenhaal's style of acting and what makes him so particularly gifted at the craft.

I especially love the narrator's point on how Gyllenhaal "designs" his characters' eyes and give them all a unique look in and of themselves. Imagine what he could craft with Batman with his approach to acting.
Fantastic piece, and magnified by Jake's own analysis of his method. Just hearing him talk about his obsession with finding his character (outside what the script and director provide) really makes me amped for what depths he could bring to Batman. It's something I last experienced with Bale's casting, which unfortunately didn't pan out to my expectation. Jake's at the peak of his career, so if he takes this on, I can only imagine he and Reeves latched onto something worth pursuing.

*sigh*

Now I'm going to be disappointed if he isn't cast. :funny:

I'm getting a Keaton sort of vibe from this. He doesn't really resemble the character in the way he's typically drawn, but something about him in the suit just looks right.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking and one of the main things that excites me about the idea. :D

Really hope it happens

I just realized something. If Jake gets picked for the role of Batman, and given that Heath Ledger played the Joker, Brokeback Mountain will never feel the same.

Batman gets the edge in American Psycho

And the Joker gets the last 'laugh' in Brokeback Mountain!

Gyllenhaal as Batman to Leto's Joker equals perfection

Naaaaahhh

Gyllenhaal as Bats and Gosling as Joker equals perfection

The two best of their generation going head to head

I wanted to see what both Armie Hammer and Jake Gyllenhaal might look like in the Batfleck suit, so I did these quick mock ups.

You should do one of Oscar Isaac, it'll probably be worth money some day.

Okay, probably not, but dammit I still want that casting to happen. :o

They have to look good in the cowl though. You need to have a mouth for Batman.

Yes, I heard it after I typed it.

The armie hammer mock-up in the cowl looks great.

Wonder how different the Reeves batsuit will look

As long as they stick with black and grey, I'm up for any changes. There should be a certain level of freedom for Reeves and whoever he hires as costume designer.

Replace black with blue and consider me on board.

It's funny, I always thought Jake would make a great Joker.

He's a top quality actor though so I could buy him as Batman too.

They seriously need to de-bulk the suit too. To Batman Begins proportions.

I'd go even slimmer if they can.

I really like the batsuit under-layer we saw in JL. Very complementary and form-fitting to Affleck's body. Something like that would do nicely.

Even slimmer will become TDK suit. With a weak neck and overall kinda frail.

I don't like JL suit AT ALL. Both of them. Just utter ****. BvS is a nice suit, but needs to be less bulky. It looked great on a stunt double, but Batfleck looked fat. At the same time, I want longer ears.

Yes!

I want to see a sleek Batman.

Honestly I much preferred both JL suits to the BvS suit. Granted I'd still prefer a different look altogether myself, but I'm not keen on the Frank Miller look onscreen.

I do agree though that it's high time for longer bat ears again, as well as for a slimmer Batsuit.

Yes that’s what most of us seem to want.

Slimmer + longer ears sounds good to me. Maybe even bring back the oval

I definitely hope they ditch the "hulking" look for Batman. I know they were trying to emulate the Frank Miller and maybe Jim Lee Batman, but comic book characters always have exaggerated physiques. That suit Affleck is wearing, I wonder how the hell he moves around in it. It makes me think of the little brother in A Christmas Story when he puts on his snow suit.

A move back towards some kind of realism would be nice, yes. We don't need to go so far as the TDK suit again - because that came with its own problems, but a Batman who actually looks like someone who can move swiftly, while retaining great strength, athletic prowess and power would be lovely. Less WWE wrestler and more UFC Fighter.

A suit that is streamlined and flexible enough to allow Batman to move like an actual martial artist would be pretty ****ing rad.
