BvS Batman casting thread for Man Of Steel 2

You all gotta keep in mind that in Hollywood, sometimes track records means squat. Everything in casting can be a totally arbitrary process.

Look at Josh Brolin. He had two misfires at WB with Gangster Squad and more so with Jonah Hex. And yet, WB is still interested in the guy for that 'Notre Dame' remake, and now Batman, supposedly due to his role in Old Boy. His track records is uneven but he's a respected name in the business. He hasn't gotten a 'stigma' like what Ryan Reynolds probably has by now. Even then, Ryan can still rebuild his career by focusing on a different path (more indie roles, etc) to success.

But just cause Keaton s vast in 1989 doesn't mean Karl Urban's a good choice now? Plus yeah Keaton was great in 89 but times have changed. You couldn't have can't Keaton on Batman Begins for example. He worked with Tim Burton's vision for the character.

I think you're thinking too much about the populous and not on what you think. Of course, studio heads sometimes don't want certain actors with a stigma or are seen as a liability (Ryan Reynolds) but you're forgetting that Christian Bale's biggest exposure before Batman was the indie hit American Psycho, along with lesser efforts like Metro and Reign of Fire. And of course, Equilibrium. Henry Cavill had Immortals and The Tudors.
Well personally, I don't think Bale was good at all as Batman, not even slightly (neither were his Batman films good). So I am indeed going by my own opinion here, aware of the fact that the consensus opinion might be different.

The bizarro notion of dumping old-man Dark Knight Returns style Bruce into a contemporary narrative makes me want to headdesk. Superman and Batman should be contemporaries, peers. Casting someone in a similar age range to Russell Crowe is going to frame Batman as some weird surrogate father-figure to Superman, which he totally shouldn't be.

I'd love Brolin as Bruce Wayne/Batman..But just not for this film when connected to Cavil as Supes
That's the thing, really. I would love to see an older, grizzled Batman, and casting Brolin in the role would be a great call. But, for it to be remotely satisfactory, you would probably need to recast Superman as Jon Hamm.

Batman being 5-6 years older than Superman would be fine. Make that 10+ years, and you effectively have a generational difference that changes the nature of their relationship. I'm not saying that couldn't be interesting, but to anyone interested in finally seeing these two characters on screen together...well, it is close but no cigar.

Bet you hated his Batman growl then :woot:

Not to mention Urban would be cheaper to hire as well, dont forget the $ angle in all of this.

The Dark Knight Returns with those two would work for sure.

This is the other thing we may have to believe in this film that Batman can go toe to toe with Superman but not just any Batman, a Batman that's older therefore probably not as quick, smarter sure but he wouldn't have the agility of a younger man. I'm still hoping WBs either changes their minds or that they're trying to throw us off the scent with this older Batman talk.

They only do that kind of stuff because it gets fanboys all horny to the point they explode before first contact. It's absolutely nothing to do with this announcement.

Otherwise you'd also be expecting a Booster Gold film, a Green Lantern reboot (based on that hokum Carrie Farris fanservice reference) and god knows what else.

Guys, I've never seen Heath Ledger carry a film as a villian before...do you think he could do it? I don't know, I'm kind of skeptical.

For Christ sake that thing is a circus i can't take anymore.

so they keep the idea of having an older batman...mmmm...now it makes sense why the logo looks so oldschool....
is superman being his robin :indy: ?

Not really a fan of an older Batman. I guess it would make sense, since he will be fighting Superman. I just wanted someone closer to Cavill so they can grow and share the screen for years. I want an unknown someone who will appreciate the Batman franchise as his own and not just as a role like if you get someone established. Get a Cavill, Hemsworth someone when you look at them you think of the character and not the actor. Someone who would do the role in a heartbeat and not think of the paycheck first. Get a young unknown please

I'm really hoping they don't go for an older Batman... :csad:

As time goes by, this movie is looking less and less exciting.

The only problem I see with an older Batman is that the audience wont have met him before so may find it hard to relate to him as Batman, I dont know its a tricky one I guess it depends on what they plan to do with him AFTER this movie. If its a one off appearance then maybe not so much of an issue, if they plan Batman films on their own with this incarnation then younger might be the way to go.

Well I seriously doubt that they'll redo the origin again with this batman even when he does spun off to his own films.

Plus, with the inclusion of a older Batman, we could be treated towards seeing the bat family emerge and formulate more faster.

Yeah I tend to agree, the origin doesnt need doing again yet, the dark knight trilogy is still pretty fresh in the memory for most.

Was it hard to identify with Bats in tkdreturns, the first of the millerverse?

Is this Batman just for this next Superman movie, and a Justice League film if it gets made? If there are no solo batman movies planned then an older guy can work. Daniel Craig is 45, and I think he could carry Bond another 5 or more years easily.
