Batman Forever

I've been giving this movie alot of thought again, and am inclined to believe that there is alot to admire about it despite it's short comings just like other movies,IMO it's a good threquel as a part of the original Batman movie series. I do think it would be perfect if it was a bit more serious. I don't find anything gay about the nipples and just see it as a silly addition to the suits, and as for Two Face flipping a coin to get results he wants,I see nothing wrong with it because like other villians in general he wants things to go his way. And I don't know why,but I just think Riddler and Two Face were being weird when they should have been more serious when they weren't up to anything. It's great that thread exists and I hope as time goes on more that this movie gets enough and more credit that it deserves.

? Considering that the coin flipping is a major facet of Two-Face's character from the very beginning of his story in the comics, why would anyone have a problem with it? Are you saying you've heard someone complain about it?

I am aware him flipping a coin to determine what he will choose to do is his shtick, however, what I was actually talking about was near the end of the movie where Two Face freaks out because he got a result he didn't want to embrace.

That´s the gag. Even if he wanted another result, he will do the thing the coin says. Even if it´s shooting himself.

OK, I gotcha.

The movie is entertaining with a couple good scenes here and there but that is it. It's a mediocre Batman movie.

Too light, Batman acting weird around his crush like he's some kid, Gotham looks like something from the Star Wars movies, neons, Two-Face over acting is worse than Riddler doing it, nipples, bat-ass shot, stupid goons, bad acting on alot of parts, etc.

The music was good, Jim Carrey was funny, the Batmobile was kind of cool, there are a couple good scenes.

The movie was not terrible, but it was the gateway drug for the crack that was Batman and Robin

I'm watching Batman Forever right now an the main things I can say since I haven't seen this movie in years is that the Batmobile is still pretty cool an that Tommy Lee Jones could of been a good Two-Face had it not been that the script called for a corny/ campy ass character.

Well, you'd be surprissed to know that actually if you read the script, the Two-Face character doesn't come out as corny or campy, a lot of his dialog is different and the way the script describes things it seemed he was supposed to be calm and cold, the original idea was that both villians in this movie would ballance each other (Carrey's Riddler being hyper and more of a trickster while Two-Face was the colder and more violent of the pair) Sadly it didn't end up that way and Tommy Lee ended playing a character that went along with Carrey's performance tone.

Does anyone have a decent image of the "Robin" helmet Chris O' Donnell had in this film?

How about this?

I'm not suire about the veracity of what I'm saying, but I think I read once that Tommy wasn't too happy about the way the Riddler was being portrayed - that is pure Carrey-ness - so he tried to prove Schumacher how "easy" was to act hype all the time and so he portrayed Two-Face the way he did. In fact, if you wacth their scenes together, Two-Face is unexplainably mute when they're together; he limits himself to a couple of words and a lot of grunts and noises.

Please tell me I'm wrong.

It's the villains...

Tommy Lee Jones is terrible in this movie. Schumacher wasted such great talent.

Jim Carrey was... Jim Carrey Circa.1995 in a green suit.

....

Everything else was certainly respectable at the very least.

I've never heard of that but to be honest it doesn't sound too far fecthed. Interesting tidbit of trivia.

I watched BF on cable a few months back and it held up a lot better than I remembered. While I do think it signalled the beginning of the end for the original series, it's a decent flick on it's own merits. It's well-paced, Val Kilmer is a pretty good Batman, I even like Robin in this film (it was in B&R he became an annoying brat), the action scenes, OTT as they are, are entertaining and fun, and I don't even mind the neon look in this movie. While I much prefer the dark and seedy Gotham, I dug the BF Gotham as well, which had a cool futuristic look and vibe to it. The movie as a whole is pretty entertaining too, and far from boring.

On the downside, both Riddler and Two-Face are depicted terribly, which is unfortunate since both TLJ and Jim Carrey were well-casted in the roles but had terrible characterization and writing for their characters to work with. I also can't stand a lot of the one-liners and humor in the film, which takes away from the mood for me. All in all though, BF has held up a lot better than I remembered and while a hugely inferior effort compared to the Burton and Nolan films, it's easily miles better than B&R and is a decent rainy day flick I can get some enjoyment out of now and then. I'd give it about a 6/10.

Just my .02 on the movie.

Sounds about right. I heard once that Schumacher snapped at Jones for trying to upstage Carrey, don't know how true that is.

I know it was condemned as "The Begining Of The End" for the franchise. But as a loyal Bat-Fan,I like it and I honestly dont think it was that bad. What you guys think of it in overall?

Batman Forever is my favourite. Especially the Panther & Sonar batsuits.

I like BF because of Val Kilmer as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Val Kilmer is the best Bruce Wayne from those four movies. Not a great Batman though.

That probably has something to do with Val Kilmer wanting the film to be dark like the Tim Burton Batman films, as Kilmer himself admired the Burton films. So, I think Val Kilmer at times was trying to play a dark Batman/Bruce Wayne, minus the killing.

Kilmer hated the direction of Joel Schumacher to the point that he didn't reprise his role for Batman & Robin.

Also, Kilmer signed on as Batman without reading the script because he thought it would be dark and that Tim Burton might be directing it.

Kilmer would've made great dark Batman film....
