Batman OYL discussion thread

Read Detective # 821 this morning. Definitely a really good debut issue for the new creative team. The art was great but my biggest complaint were those giant white marks to show that Batman was making contact. I think those were a bit unnecessary and took away from the art a little bit.

But the story was pretty cool, with everyday people posing as Gotham's elite to get closer to them.

And Batman shows that he's truly the worlds greatest detective in usual style, with a little help from Robin. Though I thought it was funny when Robin crashed in and was like, "Happy to see me?" Batman says, "No.". Haha. He DID tell Tim to stay out of it, as they didn't really know what they were dealing with.

I think I'm really going to like these one shot stories. They get right to the point, and it's something that's heavily lacking in the comic book industry these days. Onto the new Riddler we go. :up:
 
Argh! Sometimes I wish I got comics at a comic book store like everyone else...then I realize how much $$$ I'm saving. Are there any colored pages available?:confused:
 
This was a good read. Great story with a good plot and a good Batman. Not maniacal or anything. The "Detective" seems to be back!

It really felt like you were reading a novel than a 1 issue comic book. Great art with a older mature feel to it.

Great job by all who worked on this book.
 
Great read.

I don't think I've ever read a Batman comic like this, where it's all self contained almost. The story begins and ends in one issue. And it was ****ing good too. Paul Dini is obviously a great fit here, and I felt the BTAS vibe, IMO. Great art too.
 
The lettering in the narration boxes looked straight from BTAS.
 
Yeah, the art also seemed very BTAS esque. Like the use of red and stuff. And Alfred's dialogue reminded me of BTAS almost too. It was great.
 
My favorite part was when Batman punched the guy into the train and, instead of getting off his lazy ass and saving him, he tried to use the Force. Silly Batman, murder is for the Sith.

I wasn't much of a fan of the "impact spots" either. Kind of takes away from the artwork if you ask me, and the art is pretty damn fantastic.

Yeah, im surprised there not more uproar over Batman killing a guy.
 
One of my favorite books running today is the current Jonah Hex series. Mostly because the series is made up of very good, one shot stories, that work very well for the character and book. I'm glad to see that the same format is being used in Detective, and I think it'll turn out well. Besides, you can't go wrong with Paul Dini.

Anyway, it was a pretty good first issue. The white impact explosion thingies pissed me off a bit though.
 
I know Darthie-poo was being sarcastic (a**hole), but people need to stop trying to excuse things on the basis of "stylistic choices." You can't excuse crap with "style." Literally everything is style, whether it's a popular style or not. Something can be stylistic and still suck.

I bet that's what happened. Someone spilled white-out on the final product and said, "um, style." And added more.

I actually liked it. Artistically, it looked nice on the page. And, for me, it was nicer than the worn out "BAM" crap. So, I liked it.

Did anyone catch the great use of red, though, in the final pages? Inside the lair of Facade. That looked great.

I loved the story, it felt like an episode of BTAS. I liked the single issue deal, pretty cool. Next issue will be the same with the Riddler. I wanna see how that goes down.

Btw, isn't Rags Morales supposed to draw sometime soon for this book?
 
Nope, he had to bow out, so we got JH Williams instead which is an excellent trade.
 
Yeah, I'm digging JH for sure. But, will JH be with Dini throughout his whole run?
 
Is there any idea how long Dini will stay? I mean, with long story arcs we would get an idea...but, with single issue tales....kinda hard to tell.
 
They haven said. I expect 6-12 issues from this team at the least.
